After a short bus ride from Brisbane we arrived in the small town of Noosa in the early evening. We checked into our hostel, which was in a huge old colonial house, and arranged our tickets for Australia Zoo for the next day. Noosa is a really nice beach town with a holiday feel, and as we hadn't been out for a proper meal for ages we decided to treat ourselves and went to a small restaurant for steak and chicken parmigana, which were both so good, before going back for an early night as the last few days had been pretty full on and we wanted to be up early for the zoo.
We got the bus to the famous Australia Zoo, home of the late Steve Iriwn the 'crocodile hunter' and forst went to the giant land tortoise feeding. These creatures were huge! But so slow and gentle we really liked them and the zoo keepers did a presentation on their history which was interesting along with facts about them - we learnt that if the tortoises mate in the wrong way they can die! After that we went for the elephant feeding which was cool as you
got given some fruit and held it flat in your palm and the elephants would eat it from your hand! We the walked around the many crocodile exhibits aswell as seeing a komodo dragon which was really cool up so close. We then headed over to the big theatre as it was time for the main show - Steve Irwin used to do this himself- which involved lots of reptiles and crocdiles doing various things, aswell as birds elephants and other australian wildlife.
After the show we had some lunch, then headed to see the koolas - which you could stroke and then into the kangaroo park where we spent a good few hours sunbathing and feeding the kangoroos and genreally watching them play.
On the way to the exit, we got to see a couple of huge tigers up close which was really intersting as aside from the elephants in the zoo most of the other animals were native to Oz. All around the zoo was various tributes to Steve Irwin and the impact he had on getting people of all ages to be more aware of animals and the actions we can take to help stop
extinction.
We arrived back in Noosa and stopped for a quick burger at a beach bar (the beach itself looked awesome and if we had more time we would have definately stayed for a few more days), before getting chaged and heading out with a big group to the local bar and nightclub - which was really good fun, however we couldn't hit it to hard as we had another early bus ride to Rainbow beach the next morning.
We were all set for bed when Vic's, on her way back from the bathroom looked up and saw the biggest spider we had ever seen. No exageration it was the size of a hand and although we expected to see stuff like this in oz, we didn't think they would be so brave and perch itself on the ceiling outside our room. Que fifteen minutes of histeria from Vic's (and the other girls in the hostel) before we managed to get a good nights sleep and make our way to the bus stop for our ealry morning journey . . .
