We had an epic journey to Darwin from Singapore. Unfortunatley the direct flights where really expensive so we had to go via Sydney. All in all a 17 hour trip! Extremley tired we arrived in Darwin and despite our grotty hostel we where looking forward to picking up the campervan the next day which would be our home for 2 months. We had opted for the cheapest model, a 5 year old campervan which had a fridge, seat/bed, grill and two gas hobs. It was a bit gruby but after a good clean and some food shopping done to fill the cupboards we where up and running. We spent the next couple of days exploring Darwin which to be quite honest is a bit of a hole! but is saved by having a beautiful coastline. Here ... read more

Hay back home, After leaving Darwin the first time we thought it might be good to check out the surrounding coastal areas, first stopping at Mandorah. It was a very small place and the caravan park was at the pub. There wasn’t much to see or do but you had a nice view of Darwin from the beach over the harbour. From here we headed out to a place called Dundee Beach. It was like a tropical island. The water was crystal clear and the sand white as snow. But we had heard Crab Claw Island was nicer and only stayed one night. It wasn’t. There wasn’t any shade and it was a 39° day. Luckily there was a pool. The only bad bit after swimming was the amount of midges and mozzies around. We were ... read more

Warm weather yay!!!! It was so nice to have the temperature change at last warm days and night feels like im on holiday again. We went to the mindle sunset market which was packed with stalls selling hippie things and there was food everywhere. We took advantage and tried some crocodile, tasted abit like chicken, there was possum on a stick and kangaroo but gave those a miss. Hannah and i went on a day trip to litchfield national park and to see the jumping crocks, now this was the best bit, you hang a piece of meat over the side of the boat and the crocks jump up right out of the water to get it, very entertaining its syurprising how big they are too!!! went to a gorgeous waterfall and went for a dip ... read more

Kotzt an wenn man so viel Zeit reinsteckt ... read more

As normal my first few days in Darwin were hectic ones. Amongst the usual tasks of getting my bearings in the city so that I don’t get lost every time I brave it out the front doors of the hostel, finding a half decent internet café to update and print my CV ready for the world of work again, and of course finding a half decent pub to get a swift half in to get over all the stress of the first two chores, its quite manic. As it turns out, Darwin is pretty small, so the amount of time I spent asking other people - who looked just as lost as I am - where I could find my hostel, was kept to a minimum, there was an internet café just down the street and ... read more

Apologies for the lack of blogs recently guys, we're have very slow or no internet for a while. Also, this website has conveniently lost our previous blogs, but luckily we got most of them back (thanks Dad for saving them!!). Nevermind, it is a free service so we can't be angry! I think we last left you in Darwin, making our preparations to leave for Batchelor, a nearby(ish) small town, to play cowboys on Rum Jungle cattle farm! It was our first Wwoofing stop (for those of you not familiar, it is a scheme where you toil for a few hours a day on a farm or similar, in return for lodging and grub). We’re hoping to wwoof and work all the way down the west coast to Perth, to try and save some money and ... read more

Hi all. Katherine was pretty much a chill out and relaxing place. We spent most of our time doing nothing. You may all think that being on holidays is all about relaxing but when you spend hours driving or constantly unpacking and repacking you do become pretty exhausted. So Katherine was our regroup. We saw the hot springs and the low level crossing which was right near where we were staying and had a general look around the area. The night before we were leaving Katherine a couple that had been traveling along the same route as us since Karumba pulled into the camp spot next to our camp. Klaus and Yvonne had traveled from Wombarra (near Wollongong) and were still heading the same direction as us but needed to catch up on a few things ... read more

I had a few days in Darwin before heading to Kakdu National Park (something that I haev been really looking forward to!). I also met back up with my partner in crime from Airlie Beach, Kelly which was great! I really liked Darwin as a city, it's small and laid back with nice beachs and a great nightlife! The weather was perfect, 30 degrees in the day and cool at night. I could not imagine being here in the build up (when it reaches 50 degrees and 95% humidity) or the full on wet season though! It was probably the best time of year to be there as you could also swim in the sea which isn't possible for 9 months of the year. Kelly and I timed our trip to Kakdu so that we ... read more

We've arrived in Australia! After 2 nights of not very much sleep we arrived at Darwin airport at 4.30 this morning, very tired but glad to be here. We left you in the Cameron Highlands - we did get to a tea plantation in the end and we learnt all about how tea is made from a slightly racist tour guide (I was highly offended - he said that all Europeans like their steak rare, then proceeded to inform us that only Malaysians have their steak well done, he was obviously very much in favour of this and rather turned his nose up at the Europeans, letting us knwo he thought their steak habits rather inferior and slightly disgusting. Can't actually remember how he came to be talking about steak in a tea factory, but as ... read more

Darwin Day 107/108/109 June 9/10/11/12/13/14/15 After visiting the tourism office (which again conformed to other tourism offices where the staff don’t seem to be as knowledgeable as you would think). Collected a number of pamphlets for bits and pieces and specifically about fishing charters. We wandered to the Esplanade where per chance the Greek community had their annual “Glenti Festival” so we partook (?) in the food offerings for lunch and listened to some Greek music. Wandered along the Esplanade for a bit and then wandered home. Bit of a lazy day. Ultimately ended up moving from the caravan park close to Darwin - it was also close to the aerodrome so quiet and peaceful it was not! Moved out to Howard Springs approx 20km out from Darwin but were soon hankering for the open ... read more
