We took two beds in a dorm in Darwin city. We spent the first day driving around an getting our bearings as well as going to the Art Gallery, having our first coffee for a long while and visiting the Mindil Beach markets where we ate Timorese, African and Filipino food for dinner before watching the sunset on the beach. The next night we decided to see the city via a pub crawl, beginning in Mitchell St and making our way back to the backpackers where we were staying. Had a great night talking to surly Scotsmen and being entertained by magicians from Blackpool. We also made the mistake of asking a gay bloke where we should go next and nearly saw Darwin’s only drag show, although the $10 entry charge and general seediness of ... read more

Hello again. Well got to Airlie Beach which is not a great place apart from the fact that the trips to sail the Whitsunday Islands depart from here! So went on a racing yacht called Condor, which in its day won all the major ocean races twice. Been kitted out now for 28 people but its still a racing yacht with all the winches and grinders and stuff, got to help out with the sailing, raising the sails and tacking and stuff which was good fun, then spend the time sitting on the high side of the boat hanging over the side as we cruise along. Went snorkelling of the boat, and visited Whitehaven Beach which is a stunning long white sand beach that appears in tourism Australia brochures and stuff. We slept on the boat ... read more

Thursday 14 June 2007 Aaaaah to fall asleep to the sweet sounds of a feral donkey - now that’s something I never would have thought I would say!! Last day at Elsey National Park. We went for a gorgeous swim at Bitter Springs thermal pool (where there weren’t 100 old people from a bus tour as was the case at Mataranka Springs the previous day). We had a snorkel so we could look around and it was crystal clear. The kids seem to like it, especially Lily as she had her floaty swimmers and her goggles as well. Ethan liked to sit by the edge in his life jacket with his Nanny. Ethan is having more and more fun getting down and dirty with it. His most prized possession is his red tractor - I ... read more

Hi everyone, well, another leg of the journey is over and we think that it was of the coolest (yet hottest) legs we had . We arrived Darwin on last Tuesday, (After 22 hours ride in a bus ....) . Eventually we found a guesthouse (after a small elephant journey) and went to the city center . This is really cool city . On Thursday we took our car and headed for Kakudo NP . It's Australia largest park (and the one with the many crocodiles in it), So we went searching for them . At the beginning we found many Aboriginal rock paintings, great views around the park and tons tons tons of mosquitos . I think they were excited to find Israelies so they bite us as hard as they could . We ... read more

We arrived in Darwin on monday 26th March. Darwin is the capital of Australias Northern Territory (NT) with only a popuation of around 80,000. Only 1% of Australians live in the NT, but NT covers 20% of Australias land mass. Darwin is still somewhat of a frontier town to many Australians, and is nearer to Jakarta, than it is to its own nations capital, Canberra. Darwin is a very modern town due to the bombing it took in WWII, and the devastating impact of cyclone Tracy on christmas eve in 1974. Darwin was the only city in Australia to suffer prolonged attacks during the war, 64 raids over the town, totalling in the loss of 243 lives. Cyclone Tracy's wind speeds peaked at 280km, and of Darwins 11,200 houses, only 400 survived. We stayed in ... read more

Yo Blogster, So where am I up to? Just re read some of my entries and they are quite good, even if I do say so myself. I am in a bit of a giddy mood today. Dont know why, perhaps its a full moon or something. Anyway, will fill you in from Port Douglas. Spent the morning sunbathing on the beach at PD desperately trying to recoup the fact that I had lost all my meagre tan having staying inside so much at Airlie beach. Felt really relaxed and chilled out (must be the hippyesque clothes I had donned that morning), and decided to have lunch in a really upmarket restaurant. Ordered the cheapest thing on the menu and water.Classy! Was in heaven. Later that evening I caught my flight from Cairns with no problems ... read more

Etter 9 dager i outbacken har me saavidt komme oss te hektene igjen. Me har hatt ein kjempe tur med mange ulike opplevelser. va ganske spennans aa se litt andre omgivelser enn det me har sett te naa paa turen. kan jo foerst og fremst starte aa fortelle litt om outbacken. det e som de fleste kanskje veit, villmarken i australia. den delen av outbacken me har besokt bestaar av "the red centre",der det e veldig varmt og som regel toert. det e mykje raud sand og lite vegetasjon.her finner me bla det velkjente fjellet "ayers rock"(hjertet te australia). Videre reiste me oppover i de tropiske omraadene i Northern territory, heilt te darwin.her finns det et plante og dyreliv uten like. det som e ganske spesielt med detta omraadet e at de har bare 2 ... read more
