As you can tell from the pictures my camera is getting a hell of alot of use. The whole room maintain they hate all the photos and videos i am taking but always ask for me to bring it out and down the bar! Northern Monkey in particular is a bit of a flirt with the camera. In my last entry i said that the day was the hottest i had ever experienced! That was true and i had a good reason to say that as Sydney had not had temperatures as high as that for 10yrs (it reached a peak of 41oC). It took the pi$$ a bit when the wind was actually hurting it was so hot! That evening (23:30) Jason and Myself strolled down to Circular Quay (Opera House/Harbour Bridge) and took some ... read more

Another hot day in Sydney trying to avoid too many Christmas shoppers! Today has been a getting things sorted out kind of day, and a trying to get rid of headache from surf lesson two days ago... So tomorrow we will have lunch up the Sydney tower at the revolving restaurant, then Kate leaves for Bangkok before Vietnam and home to Ireland. Tomorrow I am going to a performance of The Messiah in the evening at the opera house, and probably the aquarium beforehand. Then it is off to the Blue Mountains for a couple of days - hooray. These pictures cover Queensland & the start of Sydney - Port Douglas, Daintree, Cape Tribulation etc, Fraser Island and time in Brisbane with Anne, Conor, Cormac and Ronan (and I did see Malcolm briefly - unfortunately it ... read more

Mullumbimby Suffolk Park & Soul Intelligence So many reasons why this travel blog seems intermittent. Of course I’m having lots to say each day, so much…. But finding a portal for my laptop isn’t as easy as I’d hoped… and then there’s moments like this where the hum and glow of my laptop and it’s screen in my cosy mobile home sends me into la-la land within a few minutes. So much to document and share but finding the time/making this priority is difficult….. December 14th Broken Head - Seven Mile Beach Loving hanging out with K. Easy going. She sees me. She shares :) Broken Head Beach, down a loong dirt track amongst the bush amd lo-and-behold we have the ocean! An easy morning, easy breakfast, easy swim in the gorgeous aqua waters, a ... read more

Sunday 11th December 2005 Up early 7.30am, breakfast in hotel, then out. We took train from Kings Cross to Martin Place, walked through the city with its high rise blocks of tinted glass, concrete and stainless steel. Walked down to the harbour front and around the key to the Opera House. We did the usual tourist things taking photo's of ourselves in front of the Opera House, walked up the banks of steps onto the podium. Up close, the glistening shells are covered in cream and off white glazed tiles, which have been set out in a chevron pattern. David had been to the Opera House before, but I decided to do a tour of the inside so booked myself on the 1pm guided tour. The guided tour would take in the inside including the performance ... read more

G'day all! Well,... I've been in Sydney for almost a month now... and I still wake up on a morning and my first thought is... "oh my god, I'm in Australia!" I thought I was dreaming the day I arrived at Sydney airport and stepped outside to get a bus, because the trains weren't running, and it was freezing cold and pouring down! And I actually had to pull out a jumper from the very bottom of my backpack so that I didn't catch a cold! I thought I was dreaming when I woke up the next day and I had a stinking, rotten cold... grrr! I thought I was dreaming a couple of days later when I stepped out into Martin place, just around the corner from where I was staying with Claire and Declan, ... read more

It is so nice to return to Sydney, Australia. Especially straight from Asia - the immediate reduction in traffic noise - no continuous horn honking, or noise from dodgy old motorbikes with a family of six precariously perched... anyway.... The sights in Sydney are iconic - the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge and of course the beachs. Over a few days we visited them all. Took the Manly Ferry from Circular Quay to...where else... Manly. Pleasant walks through the parks and gardens and a bit of pre Christmas shopping. All in all a riot! ... read more

Dear All, Greeting from Down Under!!! This trip really has been full of surprises, starting with our pick up from the airport. Jamie Stewart has really grown up and had no real trouble in spotting me. I had a momentary lapse but soon recognised who this six foot chap was, greeting me with a huge grin. The next eye opener was being driven from the airport to Manly by Murray Stewart!!!! The last I remember he was still wearing shorts at Clifton Prep! It has been great to see the Stewarts again after such a long time. They have a fantastic spot in Manly, extremely close to the beach and the lifesaving club. Our first afternoon in Sydney, the boys and Jean were very good and showed us some of the local sights and took us ... read more

Well, here I am in Sydney at last. I can't quite get my head round being here. As the plane flew over the opera house and the harbour bridge I found myself feeling quite emotional. They are amazing structures. I'm booked in to climb the bridge next Monday. Hoping to see something at the Opera House too - maybe a performance of The Messiah - perhaps that will get me in the Christmas spirit. Anyway, here are some Flinders photos - will do some more of the Queensland ones later. The Flinders Ranges were probably my favourite place in Australia so far . The mountains and Wilpena Pound were beautiful and it was very peaceful - just what I needed. Life in my mobile home was simple! Enjoying time with friend Kate in Sydney now. Yesterday ... read more

From Fraser Island I spent one night in Surfers Paradise (it was all I could stand), two nights in Byron Bay which I loved and then got the overnight Greyhound to Sydney. My first and only venture into overnight travel. It was the oldest bus they could find with a driver who was a miserable so and so, no movie, no music and the wierdest, maddest woman I have come across sat next to me. Not much fun for a 13 hour journey! Anyway, the last 7 days in Sydney have been amazing. It has been great to revisit some of the places I went to 5 years ago when I came for the Olympics and I fell in love with the city all over again. This time I saw a play at the Opera House, ... read more

I'm staying the night at Auntie Lian's place and am leaving for Fiji tomorrow. Hurrah! Land of taro (yams) and cannibals. Have a feeling will probably end up eating Indian food. http://www.bekanaislandfiji.com.fj is the place we're staying. I definitely 'feel' like I'm leaving tomorrow, but it hasn't quite hit me that I am actually GOING somewhere. I'm going with my friend Amy. I think it would have been nicer if there were more people coming with us, but then again, we both have similar interests, and it's easier to decide on stuff between two people rather than four. Would have been cheaper with four though.....*sob*sob* Amy just got her Hep A and Typhoid shots. I have been trying to convince her that she is NOT experiencing the symptoms of either. Basically, this link is a map ... read more
