After months of planning with Dom, the last few weeks have seen some big items on the 'To Do List' get checked off! - Mill Hill Christmas Party - Check! - Christmas Dinner Party - Check! - Ticket paid for - Check! - Finished work - Check! - Packed all worldly belongings - Check! - Moved out of Mill Hill Road - Check! Two weeks ago we had our third annual Mill Hill Road Christmas Party. A successful afternoon all round, with a great turn out of wonderful friends. Of Arrivals and Riots Well to begin with, of course, the big news is that my parents arrived yesterday! And, after flying from Miami to LA, LA to Honolulu and finally Honolulu to Sydney, they walked through the custom’s gate last night none too worse for the wear with only their roller boards in tow. I will admit that, out of an entire jumbo jet, they were almost the first people thru the gates because they were the only people who hadn’t checked luggage. So score one for Dad’s carry-on-only rule, we’ll see if all the other luggage related factors go in their favor over the next three weeks. Backing up a few days, we’ve been in the ‘riot zone’ here in Bondi. Due to all the threats of violence, a special marshal law was enacted ... read more

December 19th Sydney (Bondi) Woodford (beginning of Blue Mountains) Another lazy internet morning. Heading out to Blue Mountains any minute now, after a spot of second hand shopping in Sydney’s Newtown. This is the eclectic scene of the inner burbs. Trying reminders on my independence and loss of it. Sweet reminders on enjoying the journey rather than just focusing on the destination. Thank you W for your What a day my oh my. All I can say is make sure you read the parking signs very clearly. Short of it all for me was $175 ‘stopped in a clearway zone’+ $145 towing fee and I eventually located my car. The man at the RTA was actually very helpful. -o0o- “You can’ get lost if you’ve nowhere to be” Profundity of my year. What a beautiful ... read more

So, yeah, came back from the outbacks and got into the working force ... I've now been working for two months at this perfect little office at Martin Place in Sydney City, just over a ten minute walk from the house that I share with four other people. Sydney is just a great city and the people here are the least stressed city people I've ever met, apart from my boss that is ... I'm designing residential houses all over Sydney at the moment, but things are gonna calm down a bit come Christmas. So what have I done with myself, apart from working? Well, everything else really. I'm perfectly settled in a terraced house in Woolloomooloo with Aussie Andrew, English couple Chris and Esther and my Swedish-speaking German/Italian friend Isabella. There are parties more or ... read more

I have now started work at La Cita. I worked there on Friday and Saturday night, it's ok, but to be honest it's not ideal, but I really need the money so I just have to like it and lump it. Because it's a latino style bar everyone in there does proper salsa dancing, which can be quite funny to watch. I was able to finish early on Friday night so finished at 1am (it's open til 2am) so I went and met Chris after work and was able to get the bus home with him which was cool as he is pretty much next door on the harbour. Saturday night was cool worked 6- til about 3.30am which is the same as I used to work at Dogma. Was all ok, but in the end ... read more

for the first time in my life, i had a birthday on the beach with sun and ice-cream, the dream!!! things are going really good, i've started to actually enjoy Australia, although it's very expensive, i really like it here. we stayed in Melbourne over 2 weeks, the weather was very funny, people had warmed me that you can have the 4 seasons in a day, that the weather was really impredictable but i wouldn't believe them, now i do know that it's true. some days it was 34* and the day after was only 17*. so i had a great birthday, a bit depressed to be 26 but i quickly forgot about it after a few drinks. i had met some people at the hostel we were staying at and we started drinking there and ... read more

I have left... *sigh* I've just realised that amongst all my ramblings herein, I haven't really described the atmosphere and the energy of the people.. but really it is quite unsummable. I would not be doing anyone any favours with attempts to categorise and describe the natures.... Suffice to say there are symbols in the woods, that epitomise the community environment and living lands... see picture Definitely the 'Rainbow Region'. Letterboxes from huge old-fashioned metal milk jugs congregate at the end of long dusty driveways and long, vertical coloured flags hang in the still air... children wear wings and dance with ribbons, mothers cradle their babes in cloth slings and dance together to the beat... we wake and take a swim in the clear waters of the sea then follow breakfast with leafy greens of home ... read more

So I fulfilled my requirement as a tourist here when Alf took Karen and I to Symbio Wildlife Refuge, south of Sydney in Wollongong. And can we just say that I loved every second of it!!!!!!!! We won't mind that everyone else there was with little kids; I guess I'm just a kid at heart who eats this stuff up! Didn't get to hold a koala but got to hang out with the kangaroos so I cannot complain. Afterward, we went to nearby Illawarra to admire the views of the coast from up above, as well as drive along the new coastal bridge that just opened last week. For dinner we had barbequed kangaroo. No really, we did. In one day I got to play with them and eat them; can't get any better than that! ... read more
