In the never ending pursuit of parity with its larger and more cosmopolitan neighbour (Grafton), Yamba has acquired its very own Target store. OK OK, I will fess up, it’s actually a Target Country. I’ve never been quite sure why companies insist on demarcating their stores between their country and suburban outlets. It’s as though us country folk wouldn’t understand the shopping experience that is Target if we didn’t get it spelt out with a country indicator. The same goes for Bi-Lo. Why is it that us country residents have to shop at a supermarket named after an Asian man of questionable sexuality while everyone else in the world can make do with Coles? And one last question, why the hell does Marrickville have a Target Country when you can catch a bus there from Bondi ... read more

Spent the day recovering. When we regained our energy, we decorated Chris's flat with tinsle, cards, lights, the tree (10inches high!) and then had a good old ozzie BBQ - top cooking from Chris T!!! Corn on the cob with chilli flakes, steak, sausages, etc...... read more

With Christmas only days away we arrived in Sydney and went to stay with our friends Danielle and Danny. After a disastrous flight, hassle with visas and our bags arriving a day later than us, we welcomed having a nice house to stay in. Christmas itself was lovely, we spent Christmas Eve with Danielle's Mum and Christmas Day with her Dad and the rest of the Wilton family. We were made to feel very welcome and had a great time, the only things missing were our families. Much to our delight we even had traditional Christmas dinner so it was a lot like an English Christmas apart from the heat. For New Year's Eve we just had to watch the fireworks over Sydney Harbour! We had dinner and drinks with Danielle's friends and then went down ... read more

Hey everyone. So im finally in sydney - I nearly burst out crying when I saw the opera house (i know Lee - im such a sap). But before that news. update on m.bourne So Claire and Gem arrived on saterday which started off an awesome weekend. WEnt to stay with Claire's family (the Hendersons) who are such lovely people. WE all went to town and went out on saterday night. Claire was like "lets wear skirts" and I was like "sure" (I think we picked the coldest night in melbourne). By three in the morning on the street I was about ready to become a human icicle (spelling - aah). Sunday we went to look at the art gallery and my friend Mish (Nip) cam from Traralgon to see me (which was awesome). My dads ... read more

Have a lazy day around Manly and Chris's pool. Sunbathing and relaxing mainly. Head out and meet up with Sar and Lee in the evening after work (them not us). Drinks at the Commodore Hotel in North Sydney. Great place - it had also been a really hot day, quite a few bush fires which you could smell in town. Then on for a Vietnamese meal in Crows Nest. Very good tucker, BYO - I think we brought a bottle per person after drinks before hand, hence very bad hangovers the next day! Great night though!... read more

Decided there was only one thing for it...I just had to paint my own didgeridoo. Be it the insatiable urge to squander my money on tourist trap tat or the fact that I actually thought I might be able to play it one day. It was a great decision. Went along to the nice people along side 'Peterpans' and met Anthony who helped me chose the actual didge wood with lauren. Its the best bit of wood, of course. Really gorgeous swirly grain and big and long so it will create a deep sound. Chose a snake to paint on it and again Anthony mapped it out onto the wood, should leave these things for the experts. Lauren and I laid the first brush strokes onto to snake in black and blocked out the design. Was ... read more

Here I am in beautiful Sydney... I can hardly believe it. The flight from San Francisco to Sydney was very long, and it is very difficult to sleep in an upright position. Not to mention the fact that we were sitting in the row directly behind first class, so we could see the people all stretched out and sleeping peacefully! But it wasn't as bad as I was expecting, and I did manage to sleep a little bit. There was also a couple with a small baby in the row beside us, which of course made me think of Chris & Sarah & Nathan. The baby was so good though, he didn't make a sound the entire flight! We landed in Sydney and Dejana and Petar met us at the airport (after an extremely long wait ... read more

Have a really good flight from Perth to Syndey - only 3.5 hours due to tail wind. Chris Thornton (uni friend of S's) picks us up and takes us to his uber cool apartment in Manly on the North Head. It's paradise for us travellers...immediately make use of his washer and clean bathrooms! Chris is a brilliant host and has stocked up on lots of food and wine for our arrival, so we graciously took advantage and sat out on his balcony, overlooking the Manly ferry route (left), Manly beach (straight ahead) and the ocean (right). We head out for a couple of drinks in the evening to the Manly Wharf Hotel bar. Very cool, full of beautiful people (until D and S arrive of course!). ... read more
