...December 26th continued... Driving, out the corner of my eyes, the salvation jane on the roadside blurs into a lush lavender hue, a peripheral expressionist painting. Brown Mountain (a truck coupling bay) Fog, mist, feeling the miniature rain drops on the car’s side. Struggling to see and steer around the wet windy roads, I'm slowing to less than 40km/hour and at only 9pm I need to stop for the night. the fog so thick tis hard to see anything other than immediately before the headlights. But eventually I find myself in a truck coupling bay, better safe than sorry I say. With many protective concerns and cautionary do’s & don’ts, I’m somewhat disconcerted when a car also pulls into the bay right behind me, sits for a while, open the doors and gets out, thereby becoming ... read more

So that was Christmas 2006. What a different experience it was from 2005 with my family in Finland! The last time I wrote was in Canberra - it seems so long ago! Canberra turned out to be a great place, mainly due to the people I met at the hostel after Lucia and Pablo made their way over to Perth! The dorm was full the next night, with a very international crowd of fellow backpackers! We made sure to test out the night life of Canberra - which turned out to be surprisingly vivacious! I had a really good time, since that was the first time I had danced properly since...starting the trip!! Wow - that's a long time without dancing for me - usually I go out quite regularly! After leaving Canberra, I made my ... read more

After recovering from Christmas Day in Perth which was truly a wonderful day if not a bit weird. I mean sat out in the sun on christmas day - Its not what I'm use too but I have to conceede its the way forward people, I'm telling you! The only thing I don't get is these big sunnies all the women seem to be wearing. They look like they've got two 32inch tv screens on the face. Come on is this really fashion ? Just because Posh Spice wears them doesn't mean it's right! Anyhow I now find myself in Sydney which is an amazing city, there is so much going on here. For those of you at home you probably also know that Pete (aka Lobber) has been travelling Aus for the last 10months with ... read more

Hello. Now I know a lot of people have been absolutely frantic for The Official Buster 20 Year Anniversary Tour Blog to start and I am pleased to announce that it commences now! The OB20YAT was a resounding success and, I think it is fair to say, there are some future blogs that are going to blow your mind! We travelled far and wide and hard in an attempt to bring a little of this wonderful planet's magnificent mystery into your dull little lives and we ask for no thanks! Sure, we suffered deprivations and saw things that no civilized (whatever that means!) man should see but that is a commonplace experience for a Buster. The earth may be a hard and hairy oyster shell of a variety that is extremely difficult to shuck but we ... read more

I appologise now (Mum) that most of these photos will be drunk backpacker ones, similar to those of my student days! Some days, however were not spent intoxicated - probably just hungover! No no, I'm not that bad! On Boxing Day, we went on a Treasure Hunt pub crawl... I was disappointed to find there was no treasure! But we had a great time finding each pub and the beer that awaited us! Oh, and in some cases tequila... costly but well-spent for the high level fun! 27th Dec: Julia's birthday so we went for breakfast and later to the World Bar for a quick one. A street performer called Bruce was staying at The Pink House Hostel and we went down to support him at Circular Quay on Wednesday 28th December. 29th December: Big group ... read more

G’day all. I arrived in Sydney after a 15½ hour bus trip from Melbourne. The buses are a lot more comfortable than the plane so I managed to sleep a little. I am staying with bill and Mary, my great aunt and uncle in their house in Gordon, just outside the city center. Sydney is a huge city, with the CBD full of skyscrapers and surrounded by national parks and beaches. After exploring the city center for a day, Bill and Mary took me to Ku-ring-gai, one of the protected areas near Sydney. It is unbelievable, the contrast between the city and the bush. I found a big lizard in the park and had to do my Steve Irwin bit and get my photo taken next it. It was a big old bugger! I spent a ... read more

Spent Christmas eve day feeling a bit homesick after Alf and his roommate Paul left and I had the apartment to myself. I walked around Cronulla and everyone was out with family and friends; I was the only person obviously by myself! :( Spent a lot of time debating on how much seeing the Great Barrier Reef is worth to me because I hadn't booked a flight yet and the plan was to leave on Monday the 26th....Finally decided to go ahead and spent the money and try not to have a coronary at how much it cost. But I mean, how many times in one's life can they go to the Great Barrier Reef? Probably not very many. It better be incredible though! Called my mom and got to talk to the fam, which was ... read more
