Room 106
My bed is the top bunk at the far side (the one that looks a complete mess) As you can tell from the pictures my camera is getting a hell of alot of use. The whole room maintain they hate all the photos and videos i am taking but always ask for me to bring it out and down the bar! Northern Monkey in particular is a bit of a flirt with the camera.
In my last entry i said that the day was the hottest i had ever experienced! That was true and i had a good reason to say that as Sydney had not had temperatures as high as that for 10yrs (it reached a peak of 41oC). It took the pi$$ a bit when the wind was actually hurting it was so hot! That evening (23:30) Jason and Myself strolled down to Circular Quay (Opera House/Harbour Bridge) and took some pictures and film of the area. Its nearly as lively and definetly as breathtaking at night as it is during the day. I was shocked to see illuminated 'things' flying above the Bridge, there were absolutely thousands of them. I turned to Jason and said "are they birds or something" and he replied in hysterical laughter that they were bats. I haven't lived it
The 106 Gang
Me, Cologne, Jason, Custard, Northern Monkey, Oklahoma down yet and he still brings it up even today. The bats come from all over the city but they are mostly based in the Botanical Gardens, where i'm informed you can see them hanging upside down in all the trees during the day (when i walked through i didn't see/acknowledge one - shows you my great attention span!).
Custard, Jason, Oklahoma and myself went to Manly Beach to meet Cologne. But as Cologne was working we ended up staying on the beach and sunning ourselves (although i gave my heavily sunburnt back a rest and just sunned my front). Manly (yes i know, the name is funny) was gorgeous and the sea was warmer than at Palm Beach, i haven't been to Bondi yet and i dont intend to stay long when i get there as i've been told its a meat market and a small beach at that.
Karaoke Thursday was a good laugh again. It started with the usual Free G&T night at the swanky Cargo Bar on Darling Harbour. Me, Lorenz and Timo went on down there, but i only managed 4 G&Ts before i got bored. Lorenz is cool and i get on
with him really well but Timo (German) is a weirdo and hard work, e.g. in one day (last friday) he asked me how was my hangover about 6 times (every time i ran into him) and the first time i told him i didn't have a damn hangover! Well anyway Timo didn't say a word for most of the time and i was a bit freaked out (never trust the quiet ones). I probably also left because they had a security guard on the door - possibly looking out for skanks like us after as many free drinks as poss.
I didn't sing solo this week but Jason, Oklahoma and Northern Monkey from our room did. We did however sing "Hey Jude" as a group. I filmed some of the Karaoke and our group performance was filmed - i thought we sounded good at the time until i watched that back!!
Room 106 is starting to slowly disband. First Cologne has left to stay in Manly and Custard has recently gone as well. Jason and I went to the market and got Custard a Xmas/going away present. It was a pink cowboys hat (you can only imagine what the
Harbour Bridge
Thousands of bats were flying above the bridge and we twinkling in the light, it was incredible. stall holder thought when 2 blokes sidled up and brought that)! We gave the hat to her and she absolutely loved it and wore it down the bar on Friday night. Jason, Northern Monkey and myself will be staying for Xmas and New Year but Oklahoma and Lorenz soon leave. We still haven't decided what to do at Xmas, but as we are quite well in with the bar staff (and Sam the bar manager who is my double - supposedly) we might use their kitchen to rustle up something.
For Neighbours fans (look away now if you dont want to know the score) - the big news out here is that the fat bloke who is seeing Susan is on the verge of death, Paul Robinson is murdered this week by a fans favourite (Harold, Lou?), and there has been a plane crash and the Bishop's minus Harold have died!! Other crazy crap has happened but i cant be arsed to go on.
We have all got into gambling now (Mum if you haven't already had a coronary read on), and Oklahoma, myself, Jason, Northern Monkey, and Capri went down to the Casino again. After last weeks
Backpacker Idol
This is the competition in which 106 have a proud tradition. Its all a fix but what the hell! success Jason left the Casino $500 down and Oklahoma was $100 up, i was also down ($2)! Before that though Oklahoma went and brought a poker kit and we practiced our blackjack skills on that (iv'e found out that the gamble of 'all in' doesn't seem to work for me and my games usually end quite quickly!!).
Had another walk around the city the other day. Jason and myself took a new girl (Sian) around the sites. Later in the bar Jason and Capri accused my of taking a specific liking to Sian - i admit i couldn't deny it, although both Jason and Capri were shocked at my point blank honesty.
We had the Xmas party the other day and that was complete rubbish (nobody was wearing festive outfits and the only thing Christmassy about it were the sporadic choices of songs). The St Lucia night (Swedish celebration on the 12th) was much better, and Jason came down with a Viking Helmet which i wore all night. The amount of attention i got wearing that helmet (no pun intended) was amazing (although everyone was trying to steal it). I was a bit of a fraud though as
iv'e never heard of St Lucia, and people were coming upto me asking if i was Swedish and when i replied they weren't so endeared to me! The hostel contains alot of Brits, Germans, some Yanks & Canadians but for some reason alot of Swedes :-)
