I’m going to cut to the chase with Coffs Harbour. Coffs is a pleasant place however if we missed it out of our itinerary we wouldn’t have missed a huge amount. We stayed close to the beach side and it was a fabulous walk from our accommodation to the beach. Coffs isn’t the social hub or hype of activity. You can do a lot of the activities you find along the whole East Coast and take a nice leisurely walk around. A one night and two day stop over fitted in for us perfectly. The great thing at Coffs for us was the weather. We had magnificent blue skies and blistering sun. We chilled on the beach and took the opportunity of a splendid day and a quiet beach to have a nutty photo session. Think ... read more

well we left the colourful mix of the Byron Bay culture and laid-back village ambience behind and arrived in Coffs Harbour were we were picked up by the hostel and taken to this amazing look out over the bay, mind you it blew the cob webs off! Although we only stayed there for three nights, we felt that was enough and managed to spot wild koalas on our walks and also sh*t ourselves when we came across what we thought was a snake that cheekily blocked our path but luckily turned out to be a "blue tongue!" phew! - talk about waking us up that morning! we went out whale watching which was so spectacular and dolphins came around the boat on the journey which made the trip all the more breathtaking we thought and left ... read more

29th October - Hostel: Aussitel Price: $55 Room: Double with a private bathroom (but it was down the hall, not an ensuite which is what we expected - kind of weird but it was okay for the night). It was literally a double bed, fan, mirror and powerpoints and nothing else but it was find for one night. Review: We didn’t spend much time here but I liked the open layout of the kitchen, living room and BBQ area. Room was basic but we can’t complain for the price we paid! 6/10 We woke up at 5am after a bad night’s sleep due to the rave in the room next door lol. We managed to get the train and were early to arrive at the coach terminal. The bus driver was a bit of a joker ... read more

Up to the sunshine!! It really is getting hotter as we are moving up the coast. We had seen some signs for a pet porpoise pool and were intrigued to find out what it was. It is a dolphin centre with some sea lions and seals. We decided to go check it out and so glad we did. It is known as the most interactive marine park and they are not wrong. When we got there the shows had finished so we were able to stand by the side of there pool and play catch with the dolphins. They would come up close and you could stroke them as they went past. Once we managed to drag ourselves away from them we went and had a go at feeding the Small Blue Penguins. All I can ... read more

Woke up to rain and black clouds at about 6:30am so rolled over and decided to give the whales a miss and catch up on some more sleep. All going well untill Mum woke me at 8am to say sun is shining lets go..... So go we did, and what a morning we had. By the time we walked down to the jetty a few clouds had come over and things were looking a bit dicey! Anyway we were there and going what ever the weather (especially as mum had dragged me out of bed). There wasn't many people on the boat and we managed to get seats right at the front. After about 10 mins to get out of the harbour our eyes were peeled and we were ready to see a whale. After about ... read more

After such a good day yesterday it is going to be hard to make our days drive sound as good!! Up and out of the campsite and on our way to Brisbane. We didn't really have a plan of where we would stop just see how far we felt like driving. The view along the way was great, now there are more and more hill's around and everything is so green. There were so many bridges to cross and all of them had the picture perfect view. (If only I could take a good picture when it all zips passed!). Found a cheap place to stop for fuel and there was even a subway place in side so quick bite to eat and back on the road. We decided to call it a day at Coffs ... read more

We managed to rent a campervan at a good price as it was a relocation and needed to be in Sydney in a few days. So we got a lift back to Brisbane and stayed a night in a hostel. We picked up the campervan and got on our way. As we were leaving Brisbane the rain started so we thought we’d drive further south than planned to start our tour of the beaches. However there was rain everywhere we went. It rained all in the day and it rained all through the night so it was a good job we weren’t sleeping in a tent. So we didn’t do any sunbathing on the beaches or BBQs but we did lots of looking at the views in the campervan. We had a 15 minute break in ... read more

Today is the birthday of a very special young man - Charlie Brown is eight years old - so a very happy birthday to you Charlie. Yesterday morning I picked up a leaflet about a whale watching cruise that went from Coffs Harbour and was at half price through September. So I phoned and booked us on without knowing, of course, that we could see them from the headland at Woolgoolga. Every year between June and October thousands of humpback whales make the journey back down to Antarctica with their newly born calves after having gone up to the warmer waters off the Queensland coast earlier in the year to breed. Sunday morning dawned with clear blue skies - the cruise boat went out at 9.30 so we were on the road by 8.15. Coffs Harbour ... read more

On Friday morning we had to make a decision about which route south to take: we could either go on the inland route to Armidale or take the much more inviting option of heading to the coast. On the inland route we could have diverted through Gloucester and Stroud but that would have made us terribly homesick so we thought they were best avoided!! The road that went towards Grafton and the east coast looked as though it might be interesting as it appeared to meander on the map (we still like using old fashioned methods!) The open countryside disappeared and we were soon driving through a thickly forested area which was part of Gibraltar Range National Park. We diverted along a rough track for a kilometer or so to Boundary Falls which was pretty spectacular. ... read more
