First thing on the agenda was to find a computer store recommended by the hotel owner. We drove for about 20 minutes and were about to pull over for assistance when we came upon the store, Harvey Norman. Pete and I were skeptical since the store sold bedding, furniture and electronics but we were surprised when we got inside at the electronics section. We found a few different net books in our price range and then worked with the salesman on which one had an international warranty. The net book Pete really wanted was sold out but they sold us the display model , price matched the other store and gave us a free computer sleeve. YES finally after 4 attempts we finally had a net book in our hands at the price range we wanted ... read more

With no further work available for us at Graincorp, we packed up and left Moree on Friday 13th November. Heading for the coast, we decided to call into Stanthorpe in Queensland and see what might turn up there with the stone fruit picking and apple thinning. As we approached “the town of Boggabilla on the McIntyre River” we were searching through our CD collection for the John Williamson song “Wobbly Boot Hotel”. We stopped to take the obligatory photo of said establishment. It was hot and dry as we stopped at Goondiwindi and had a quick walk up town to get bread for lunch. The next task was to find a shady spot for lunch. We found the Botanic Gardens, which were more like a picnic park, but the lake in the centre and the big ... read more

After a short drive from Bellingen to Coffs Harbour we enjoyed a walk along the marina to Muttonbird Island for great views of the town and surrounding coast. We then walked along the beach under the old pier but it was still a bit cool and windy to sunbathe or swim. This is the nicest part of the town but we decided to walk into the centre anyway which is a few kms away. We found a beautiful walk back from the centre to the marina along the creek, part of which was a boardwalk through mangrove swamps. The YHA hostel near the marina is worth staying at as its a modern purpose built hostel complete with swimming pool and friendly staff. Next day we drove north and stopped at a quirky wee town called Maclean ... read more

It is 31C degrees here at Woolgoolga and it’s windy. Every afternoon a wind comes up which shakes the motor home and blows over tents. We’ve given up having the awning and our table and chairs out and instead are cooling off in the air conditioning - chilling out. Yesterday morning we walked along Woolgoolga’s beautiful beach to the lake. Because of the recent high seas, and 'Woopi' (as it's called by locals and we who've spent our lives coming here!) losing a lot of the beach, the wreck of the ‘Buster’ is now exposed. Buster went aground along the beach around 1890. It is usually buried and once or twice we’ve seen a rib or two poking up from the sand. Now the shape is more evident. Doug was interested to see that the planks ... read more

I finally got to fulfill my dream of swimming with Dolphins. I wouldn’t really call it swimming but we were in the water with them. Early that morning we collected our wetsuits from a dive shop near the Pet Porpoise Pool. A few tight squeezes and we were fitted out with our suits. They gave us extra layers as well as it would be pretty cold in the pool. Our Dolphin Encounter was scheduled for 1pm so we visited the centre and watched the Dolphin and Seal show that morning. Michelle got a kiss from a seal but she assures me it meant nothing! We also got to see Blue Penguins being fed and the big child that I am, I lined up with all the kids to hand feed a penguin some fish. Soon it ... read more

G'day! How's sunny England?! Melbourne was a bit of a shock to the system. There I was thinking 'it's Australia, it can't get that cold', going out in just a t-shirt and hoody and later returning to the hostel to grab my jacket, hat and gloves! Apparently they had just been hit by a particularly cold spell plus the on and off rain made matters worse. Melbourne is a great city though, despite lacking the major sites that Sydney may hold it has a very livable feel to it and is extremely multicultural. We found you can eat any food you like (too many Thai restaurants though!), though as with Sydney an 'Australian' restaurant we could not find! What do they have I suppose, only having European settlement over the last 200 years? Will have to ... read more

Left Belltrees a few days ago, wish we could've stayed longer but me and Siov aren't much use on a farm so couldn't really be of any use to them! We drove north and stayed inland to avoid the floods. Went through a few very country towns which were very uninspiring. We were starting to dispare that the trip was going to be cold and boring! The first town on our route was Tamworth, which is famous for country music, but very uninspiring! After a days drive we got to Armidale, which doesn't have much going on. Found a lovely spot to camp in, by a dam with mountains in the background, but froze to death. I have never been so cold in my life and didn't sleep at all, if you'd given me a ticket ... read more

Well here we are - in Coffs Harbour - two months after leaving Sydney Harbour. Not exactly a screamingly fast pace north - but the weather gods seemed to think we needed a slow start to the trip - so sent rain, wind and big swells to keep us in the marinas rather than out at sea. We actually had a great time at each stop (Pittwater, Newcastle and Port Stephens) - and decided that as we wanted to come back to Sydney for a week for a couple of very special occasions, we would put the boat into Coffs Harbour marina for a month. Its less expensive than alot of the marinas, lovely place to stay - and only a train ride back to Sydney. (Well - an eight and a half hour train ride ... read more

25/05/09 Monday Day 283 After seeing Cape Byron lighthouse we started heading south once more shortening the journey to Sydney. We passed through a place called Ballina where it had a huge prawn on top of one of it’s buildings. We had to be diverted here because the main highway was still flooded. Most of the towns on the way to Coffs Harbours look battered from the storm that passed over us when we were in Brisbane. There’s still debris of leaves and bits of tress everywhere and there’s also loads of trees knocked over. Coffs Harbour is a nice place, a bit split up again like Noosa. There’s the town itself which is lovely and there’s the harbour jetty which a lot smaller of a place. Had some 7 dollar fish and chips from the ... read more

Viel besser hingegen war Sea World. ... read more
