Day 44 in Australia At 6am at the lonely bus stop we get picked up by Aussitel's mini bus and checked into our room. The decor is similar to Prisoner Cell Block and smells faintly of urine. We doze for a bit then set off exploring this new destination. The staff are super friendy so we sign up for BBQ that night. We wander down to the town centre of this lovely suburb the sun is shining and we are getting roasted alive in our jeans. In serious need of a cooling off we decide to head to the recommended irish bar. A glass of wine and a bargain schnitelz later we are refreshed. We pick up shopping and drop it off at hostel while we go in the opposite direction in search of the beach ... read more

We had problems gaining internet access at our hotel in Sydney. Sorry for the delays, so here are the ones we have been saving. On 8/21, we had a good but long flight to Sydney. We left shortly after midnight on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, and we arrived in Sydney around 7:30 am on Thursday morning. We are now 17 hours ahead of the west coast of the USA. We loved flying Qantas and especially the personal entertainment system in each seat. After arriving in Sydney, we found our hotel, dropped our bags, cleaned up a bit, and went out exploring. We found an art museum, went to the top of the Sydney Tower, visited the Sydney Aquarium, found a supermarket, wandered through some malls, and rode the subway system. Our feet hurt quite a bit! So ... read more

Our next stop on the mighty Greyhound took us to Coffs Harbour, a small city right on the tourist track famous for diving and water sports. After a whistle stop tour of the main area by the mini bus driver, she took us up to a look out point to show us the main landmarks to get our bearings of the town, we took a stroll down to the local shops to get some supplies in. The hostel had a very young adventure feel about it the room was a good size but a little over shabby, the main lounge, kitchen dinner had everything in it but could have benefited from having some division. After a good night sleep and a hearty breakfast it was time to set off again on another day of exploration and ... read more

Today our road trip brought us back to Coffs Harbour - where we stayed for a couple of nights about two months ago - it was kind of nice to be back in familiar territory - relatively speaking anyway! Weeks 4 & 5 of the road trip took us slightly north of Cairns to Port Douglas, and then south down the Queensland coast and into Northern New South Whales. We finally saw our first crocodile that was out in the wild (although safely on a river bank quite a distance away). Amazingly we spotted the croc while driving down a major highway - guess sometimes you don't need to take the path less travelled! We also drove through quite a bit of tropical rainforests and with rainforests came lots of rain. Unfortunately the rain didn't stop ... read more

Hey, so its another double blog writing session today, since I want to keep ares separate, i feel it makes better reading!! The last blog left off in Byron Bay having had my first surf lesson. That night, i stayed in the hostel as they were having a film night, watched a film called hostel...yeah never again, disgusting film! The following day was much the same as the day of my first surf lesson. I got up, hit the beach for a bit, before going for a surf lesson at 12. They offered me a reduced price hence doing it again. We went to the same beach, but today being a second dayer we hit the water straight away, without any theory on the beach. They ran out of beginners boards so they gave me more ... read more

Panoramic View: Surfers Paradise Bus Journey From Sydney To Spot X The excitement was building now that we had actually boarded the bus. We sat down and didn't mess about; it was an overnight journey (we were to arrive at Woolgoolga at 5:30am) and we needed the sleep. Unfortunately, this particular Greyhound bus was pretty uncomfortable, both in terms of leg room and the chairs themselves. Tiredness won though, and we were soon drifting off to the sounds of the film Flushed Away which was playing. It was fine until an alarm clock in the film went off and one of the characters screamed "WAKE UP!", but we slept most of the way none the less. We arrived at Woolgoolga expecting a pre-arranged pick up from our surf camp, but after 20 minutes waiting in the ... read more

We arrived at Surf camp at 6:30pm on Sunday night (just north of Coff's Harbour). The drive was surprisingly straightforward, strictly on the freeway for the most part. They had dinner ready for us, and a warm campfire (not to mention beds in a cabin that had a heater!) We spent that evening trying our best to stay awake past 9:30 pm, meeting people around the campfire. We roomed with Emma and Gary from Scotland, who had been travelling together for nine months already, and were going for another four or so. Most others were European or British, and travelling whimsically from place to place with no solid plans for tomorrow or when they were going to go home. What a crowd! The crew at surf camp were SO friendly, and our instructor was fabulous. We ... read more
