Well We arrived in Moonee Beach with Dad & stayed for 3 nights. The van prak was right on the beach which was gorgeous. Shan had been dying to get a surfboard since we decided we were leaving so now he finally went & got one. So in 17 degree cold windy weather Shan decides to try & srcub up on his old surfing skills. He puts on his wetsuit (blue camo - his spear fishing wetsuit) & heads for the surf after wrestling the waves for an hour he headed back to land & decided he needed a lil bit more practice. We had a great 3 days, checked out the Big Banana which wasnt actually that big but they did have a tobogan sled thing on a rail which we had a few goes ... read more

We have survived the last camp, which we have done just north of Coffs Harbour. A beautiful site right beside the Pacific Ocean so we were able to listen all night to the surf rolling in! A very cold night too. But today the sun is shining and we are just getting ready for the final push to Singleton and Sydney. I survived my shark experience - wow, what an experience! Even got the sharks' teeth to tell the tale. I hope to finalise this blog on Sunday when we finish at Sydney, and I will also add some photographs of our last few days since leaving Maroochydore (as well as a shark or two). The Hillman is going really well at the moment, and so we expect her to get us to our final destination. ... read more

COFFS HARBOUR 16.-19.5.2010 East Coast Discovery Passini oikeuttaa matkustamaan junalla Australian itärannikkoa pitkin Melbournesta Cairnsiin. Kaupungin uloke, Cape Byron, on Australian ... read more

Not much happening at the moment as we are stuck in Coffs Harbour waiting for Tank to get fixed up before we can move onto Byron Bay. So we are just sitting around reading books and going to the beach. Needles to say I took the opportunity to take another lesson with Fonze's son. This day was not so good for surfing as the waves were not very big. I did manage to get up (just about) and I was on my own board today which is harder to use as not as big as the surf schools ones. Shenton says he didnt need surf lessons, mainly because when we met Lee he said to Shenton "you look like a surfer" and he didnt want to shatter his illusions. I think he siad it beacuse he ... read more

This blog really does not need many words. I took a lesson today from Lee Winkler, (the Fonze's son) he was ranked 17th in the world pro circuit. All I can say is I am amazed by my surfing skills :-) Shenton was the official photpgrapher and took loads of action shots. As you can probably tell I am quite proud of myself.... read more

Hey guys! We're writing to you today from Byron Bay, NSW! We've been here a day now, and before that we were in Coffs Harbour, so here's what we've been up to: We left Sydney shortly after posting our last blog and took an overnighter bus up the coast to Coffs Harbour. We got on at 11pm and arrived at 7am.... I had been dreading the overnighter bus, but to be honest it wasnt as awful as I had anticipated. For one thing, it wasn't full so we both got two seats to lay down on, and for another thing, I actualy managed to get a few hours of sleep! success! So we arrived bright and early in Coffs and were pleasantly surprised to see a shuttle from our hostel, the Aussitel Backpackers, waiting to pick ... read more

Day 110: Wednesday, March 17th, 2010. Surfers Paradise to Coff's Harbor (Surf Village), Australia. Per the Contiki Brochure, "This morning, we visit the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, where you’ll get up close to Australia’s amazing native animals. Cuddle a koala, feed the kangaroos and see wombats, emus, crocodiles, dingoes, Tasmanian devils and colourful birds. You can feel good about doing this too, as our visits to this not-for-profit organisation go towards the sanctuary’s animal hospital and help over 4000 injured animals every year. Next up: gorgeous Byron Bay. With a laid-back lifestyle, cute little shops, organic food, alternative therapies and around 30km of pretty beaches, it’s a must see. Byron Bay is also known for its incredible marine life. Head out to Cape Byron, Australia’s most easterly point and see dolphins and h... read more

February 7, 2010 I’m waiting for my train to Coffs Harbour with Charlotte, Ryan & our newest addition Allisandro (or Alli). Alli is 26 from northern Italy and looks just like me! A blonde haired, blue eyed, pale Italian, who would’ve guessed?! He is about to move to London to work in investment banking I believe so before he does he’s taking a 1 ½ month vacation, nice. He seems to have some money but the only reason he stays at hostels is to meet people. His accent is not Italian at all however because he studied in Quebec for a while where he learned French so his English accent sounds like a mix between Canadian, French and Italian. Very nice boy, speaks English very well but doesn’t understand it all the time. It’s hilarious because ... read more

We all headed out the hotel room in search of Breakfast. We wanted to grab something fast since we were only going to spend the morning in Koffs Harbor. We came across several restaurants that were not yet open. After all it was only 9:30 in the morning and from what I’ve seen of Australia it holds some bizarre hours when it comes to businesses. We stopped at a Hungry Jacks which is the Australian equivalent to Burger King. We ate and were ready to go get the day started. We read in our Australia guide book that Koffs Harbor was famous for the Banana Plantations that scattered the costal hills. We decided that we would go to the one listed in the book and take the tour. I had never been to a banana plantation, ... read more
