Yo no!!!!

Flew from Nashville to Dallas-Fort Worth airport. This airport is enormous, like a city within a city and serves both Dallas and Fort Worth metroplexes. I had to catch two buses just to get out of the airport and to the train station. The hostel was just a big house with four dorm rooms. Luckily I was let inside by one of the guests, as the owner wasn't even around - it was very laid back! That night traveled by local train to Fort Worth Stockyards district to check out the night life. First thing I saw walking down the main drag was a man leading a dog. The dog had a little saddle on it with a cat perched on top for the ride. Ontop of the cat was a rat! This was an amazing ... read more

Well I spent about 48 hours in Dallas Texas and really didn't get up to much as I had to visit family out in Garland which is about a 30 minute drive from both DFW airport and downtown. I thought freeways in LA were hectic, they are even bigger in Texas! There might be a little less traffic but the number of elevated interchanges surely surpasses the LA system. It was quite exciting driving through them and marveling at the amount of road funding that has been injected over the years. Sydney couldn't do anything similar even if we had the money as due to poor town planning we have no room! Unless we knock massive amounts of homes and businesses over I think we are resigned to ridiculous traffic on small roads leading to the ... read more

Okay so as I look at this lovely countdown I have going on my page, a teeny tiny bit of panic starts to set in. Bahamas in TWO days, which means I should be close to packed. Instead, my room looks like this picture to your right. Houston we have a problem. It's a good thing I can run on no sleep, because until Wednesday, I will be attempting to fit all of that debris you see into two duffel bags. This could get interesting...But I can do it! So as I calmed myself down a little bit, I started to get really excited and found myself wishing I could just get on the ship now. As this trip becomes more and more real, I look forward meeting students from all over the U.S. as well ... read more

Over the past few days in Texas we have driven in a hot car, almost thought we weren't going to make it any further due to the car almost going bust (Bryce rectified the problems for 25$ handy man), taken on the major rides at two six flags locations, ate, slept, taken loads of pictures and generally sat still for not too long and couch surfed for the first time. When we were in Amarillo we ran into a sheriff who told us to travel to Fredericksberg, a small town in Texas who was founded by Germans originally, which is where it got it's name and character. Lots of the street names are of origin descent, and there is literally a tonne of German food and historical buildings to see. When we found the visitor center ... read more

It's been just over 5 months of living in Dallas. Moving here from Chicago was eye opening to say the least. That is a story for another time or you would be reading for hours. The past few months have been transitional. Moving, finding a place to live, starting a new job, and traveling all over the east coast for work, have kept me very busy. I traveled to Philly one too many times in the past couple of months. I also ate one too many cheesesteaks sandwhiches. We are now in a nice lull and catching up with each other. The good thing about the lull, time to start planning our next travel excursions. We have two weeks before we start 3 months of excursions. Heres the line up: Orlando, Chicago, Ohio, Miami, Key West, ... read more

Set off from DFW, I think my parents are more worried about this trip than I am. Found free Wi-Fi and updated my Facebook status and ate a sandwich. Wait, wait, wait. Bonus! Apparently U.S. Airways offers Wi-Fi during flight. I wonder how they can connect to the interwebs in the air though… Nice lady sitting next to me is also headed to Italy, but Florence not Naples. Said I was perky and apparently this being my first international flight is a perfectly valid explanation for that. Not gonna lie, the take off is my favorite part of the flight; it feels like a roller coaster. I also like looking out the window as everything gets smaller and smaller, like a train miniature. Eventually fields and forests look like a patchwork quilt with embroidered rivers. Supposedly ... read more

I had not been to the Dallas Zoo in at least 25 years because we normally went to the Fort Worth Zoo. I always heard the Fort Worth Zoo was better so decided to visit the Dallas Zoo and see if it was true. When I arrived the main parking lot was blocked off because the lot was already full. I found the over-flow lot and it was almost full too. I started to not go in because I thought it would be too crowded but I was pleasantly surprised. It was not crowded at all. I am guessing they must have small parking lots. I do know the over-flow lot wasn’t very big. It cost $7.00 to park then $15.00 per person to get into the zoo which I thought was expensive if you were ... read more

Before the Show It's always a good morning when you actually wake up after falling asleep in a small hotel room with a meth head in a bed rather than a tub full of ice. I don't how extensive the black market organ trade in Arkansas is, but I wouldn't put anything past these people. I went out to the van to wake the boys and tell them about the shenanigans of last night. Since I was the only one who had a chance to shower the night before, Adam, Mike and Chris took their opportunity to get clean. Steve, for reasons incomprehensible to the rest of us, opted to remain in his current olfactory-molesting condition. He smelled like a Tijuana port-a-potty. He smelled like a Frenchman rolling in dog feces. He smelled like Liz ... read more

Ronald and I took the bus from Taipei Main Station's West Bus Terminal (you have to go out a special exit and it's not really connected to the metro) and paid 90 NT for the bus. It took an hour and dropped us off at Terminal 2 (it goes to both terminals) and the driver was...interesting. He was chewing on a betel nut half the time and we were sitting in the front so we could see everything. Normally when the bus is stopped at a green light and you're sitting in the back, you just assume there's something in front preventing the bus from moving. When you're in the front, however, you can see how the driver just isn't paying attention and is trying to charge his cell phone/mp3 player/etc. Checking in was fast and ... read more
