Had a lazy morning and got more washing done. In the evening we visited a local biker friendly bar run by friends of our host. The owner of the bar is also a good musician. There was a musician playing that was a bit of an Elvis lookalike. He was a new performer that the owner, Jerry, was trying out. He was very good. We left the bar about 7pm and drove to a lake house owned by our hosts. Shame it was not a bit warmer, but a lovely place to relax. ... read more

Woke up this morning and were relived to find we had moved out of the snow. Arrived in Dallas an hour early after an uneventful journey. Our friends arrived to pick us up as we got there. Had a relaxing afternoon doing washing and a little bit more shopping – we will definitely need the extra suitcase we brought with us. We are now 6 hours behind English time. ... read more

I woke up early again to leave for Dallas in Texas. We packed all our belongs and began the drive to Texas in our new silver Florida plated car. It was meant to take us 8 hours to arrive in Dallas. The road wasn't very exciting although there was a 25 mile long bridge that we crossed through a river and swamp and the temperature began to plummet to around freezing again or the first time since leaving Washington D.C. The trees around looked very white and wintery from frost, and thankfully there was no ice on the road. We didn't stop at all for lunch, only frequent stops at gas stations for toilet breaks and fuel top ups. The highlight was watching American Psycho on a laptop in the car. We finally arrived in Dallas ... read more

I'm posting from the Dallas Airport, an hour away from boarding my flight back to Seattle. It has been a fun 11+ weeks and I can't believe it is all over! It flew by and while I'm excited to get home and spend time with friends and family I hope to take another trip like this in the future! My Spanish improved greatly, but I'm not fluent yet, and I still hope to be someday. Perhaps next time I can find a job and live somewhere for 6 months - 1 year, Spain, Argentina, who knows. Anyways thanks for reading and I look forward to seeing everyone soon!... read more

You can never start too early for catching a flight to the US of A. I arrived with ample time (so I thought) two hours before my flight. I hoped to be able to exchange some money or at least go to the toilet before entering the plane. How naive I was. Problems started before I even checked in. My lovely travel agent Lea forgot to tell me that I would need an ETS number (whatever that is). Lucky for me Vancouver airport information has two computers set up to just do that. Unlucky for me I do not own a credit card and was fucked. Eventually a very nice lady from the airport lent me hers and I could pay the US$14.00. On I went to immigration, my favorite place in the world. Who could ... read more

Greetings from Texas, the 14th US state (2 Canadian provinces on top) that we have visited on our travels. Weve had a couple of flying stops in Texas, Houston and then Dallas. Were now en route to Denver, Colorado, for our first taste of some really cold weather - the weather there is currently fluctuating between -1 degree and 6 degrees today, with snow forecast for tomorrow & Sunday. Houston was a lovely, clean, seemingly safe city. Unfortunately there wasnt a whole lot to do there, and we couldnt believe how dead the city was when we were wandering around. The hotel there was extremely interesting. It was a little 23-suite hotel that had a great room with comfy beds, but rude and unhelpful owners. There was only one employee who seemed willing to help us, ... read more

Who shot J.R? Our first stop in Texas (from Oklahoma) late on October 9 was the house of Texas´most famous resident (or so I think anyway), J.R. Ewing. Ok so he wasn´t real but who doesn´t remember ´Dallas´, which funnily enough is the town where Southfork Ranch is. This apparently wasn´t J.R´s first home, but after the pilot series the owners of the first ranch said no to additional filming. Probably not a bad decision as after Dallas became popular Southfork Ranch was so besieged by fans that the owners had to move out! Filming was however only done outside, and with clever wide angle lenses (the only real special effects they had then) they made the house and pool look a lot bigger than it is. The owners of the ranch now have obviously turned ... read more

Howdy from Texas... Fri 24th Sept- Managed to find the train station from the greyhound station in downtown dallas, got the train to Irving a suburb where the hostel was, a woman and her daughter gave us a free lift from the train station to the hostel, Texans are the friendliest people ever. The hostel was really cool, the owner is so relaxed and gave us loads of local info, he doesn't live at on sight so everyone at the hostel keeps it going and there are some great people staying, massive open plan living area and all the extras like internet and laundry are free. Had drinks with people at the hostel in the evening. Sat 25th Sept- Headed to Fort Worth on the train with two irish guys from the hostel. Arrived downtown and ... read more
