Arrived at Madrid Barajas, checked in and printed boarding cards at the machine (great idea) also paid a little extra few € to be in group 1 boarding! Friends and family all know I don't do standing in line...supermarkets, banks, airports....I am known to walk out leaving groceries behind... Anyway got to the bag check, only to encounter the "check in Nazi's" ok, having worked in the airline industry for years, I understand perfectly the need for security questions...but....asking me how many times my iphone has been off my person since I bought it....excessive!! And why is our return journey from the US with a different airline? Errm ... because it was cheaper....... So eventually they decided we were ok to fly...off we went on our next epic journey through the terminal, all I can say ... read more

U srijedu 03.10. sletjeli smo u Dallas. Dokumentarac govori o policijskoj raciji u novom gej klubu u Fort Worthu Rainbow Lounge. Policija i službenici iz komisije za kontrolu alkohola u Texasu upali su u klub 28.06.2009. te su počeli odvoditi ljude pod otpužbom da su pijani. Policij ... read more

Our second trip to the Texas State Fair was a fun filled fest of fun stuff. I had several fried things. For sure I had deep fried jambalaya and a deep fried snickers. I think my other fried food was a classic deep fried twinkie but I am no loner sure. Everything deep fried eventually starts tasting the same and really you can't do better than fried pickle spears anyway. I did get the right kind of corny dog this time though! It was delicious and crispy. Colby's plan to keep his diet was to take a bite out of everything I ordered. I will say that the bites he took were big bites. We went on just a few rides this time. My favorite was the haunted house because they played Love Shack by the ... read more

Geo: 32.763, -97.03265/14/12 – Today started at 8:30 AM when we left Baton Rough headed for Dallas, TX. Knowing that there would be nothing of significance to see today, we set out to put a lot of miles behind us and so we did. We arrived in Dallas at 4 PM.The drive had promised to be drab and uninteresting, but there are a few items of note. And the big event of the day was crossing the Muddy Mississippi. (Funny, that word was a lot easier to spell when I was 6 years old, than it just was, when I tried to type it. LOL) We saw a river boat and barges, and it was clearly a working river with lots of industrial activity where we crossed it on I-10. The word for the day is ... read more

We got up and made our way to a little cafe that had been recommended to us by Meghan, and then caught the DART (train) into town to go to 'The grassy knoll' where JFK was assassinated. They have the exact spot where he was shot marked by an X on the road! Its in the middle of a three lane road. I walked across it and it felt WEIRD! We then went to the JFK museum, the old book depository where the sniper shot himfrom. They run an audio /visual tour through the museum that is all about JFK and the assassination. It was very very interesting! But sad and scary at the same time! After lunch our new friend Lana (from the night before) took us for a mini tour around Dallas, mostly showing ... read more

Got up packed and went to air port. Flew to Dallas over some interesting landscape. Lost two hours in time difference, so had a late breki at LV air port and were ready for dinner when we got to Laura's friend meghan (met through contiki in Europe) beautiful little house. Dallas is such a pretty city! We were so excited when we got there, her neighborhood is to die for! All the houses are sooo cute! That night Meghan took us to dinner (Texmex) with her friends (in her convertible Lexus). After dinner (and lots of Margharita and sangria swirls) we went to a little pub and I think we tried a few local beer/ciders, we then moved on to there local- the corner bar. I made best friends with rocky and Roselyn both from Dallas, and ... read more

I think we left our hotel this morning to make the long walk to Dealey Plaza with the same enthusiasm and anticipation that many left their homes nearly 50 years ago to share in a city’s presidential visit. We also left with the sound of our bar girl ringing in our ears – don’t walk from the hotel to the CBD. We felt that it was only 2 miles – what could go wrong? A nice walk down through an industrial area, past a trailer park, turn right at the Bail Bond lawyer’s office and straight past the City Jail with the sounds of a basketball match emanating from the courts behind the walls. Most tourists do not get to share in these highlights. If I am going to be selfish, today was my day and ... read more

Wow! We should have sensed something was up when our pilot politely told passengers as they boarded AA 1432 to “hurry up” as there was “a bit of a weather system west of Dallas they wanted to beat”. Our flight to Dallas Fort Worth Airport was all of 40 minutes and uneventful so we were not really expecting what unfolded over the next few hours. In layman’s terms all hell broke loose soon after our arrival. Out of the taxi window we could see some dark rain clouds so said to each other we would get to the hotel and put our waterproofs on and walk into the CBD. Within ten minutes of putting the TV on in our room we were interrupted by a public announcement telling us that a tornado warning was in place ... read more
