I was not going to go to the Aquarium because I have seen many Aquariums, what would be different? Boy was I wrong. The way it was set up was great. You walk thru the top and you can view things such as birds, ducks, and monkeys. As you follow the path down you see Otters, Toads, Croc, keep going and you'll see random fish, jellyfish, manatee, sharks. I viewed it as a small zoo/aquarium combo. If people are strapped for time, I would recommend seeing the World Aquarium over the Dallas Zoo. Parking is not located on the premises, as the aquarium within the city. However, parking is located readily across the street, as well as within walking distance from Old Red Museum, and Sixth Floor Museum/Delaney/Grassy Knoll.... read more

Down a block and across the street from the Sixth Floor Museum is the Red Old Museum. Now that I am an adult, I love seeing history. The Red Old Museum holds a lot of the history of Dallas. The museum takes you thru four sections: the Early Years (prehistory-1873)-see items from slavery and Civil War. As well as personal items from John Neely Bryan and Quanah Parker Trading Center Gallery (1874-1917)-displays items about relations. Relations with others across America (via the Railroad), segregation, as well as police and fire organizations. Big "D" Gallery (1918-1945)-the 1920s, the Depression era, and Religion. World Crossroads Gallery (1946-2007)-Civil War, JFK Assassination, "Dallas". If you do not know much about Dallas history and enjoy viewing it. I recommend The Red Old Museum. Quick, enjoyable, interactive. There is a short movie ... read more

Deciding to ride in a car with a top down, JFK makes his way thru Dallas on November 22, 1963. When the motorcade passes the Book Depository on the corner of Houston & Elm...Lee Harvey Oswald takes JFK life while JFK wife sits next to him. I always believed I was born too late in life. I feel like I should have experienced the 1960s-the turmoil, lifestyle, music. So saying this I had to stop by the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas. Although I was not able to take photos within the museum-the museum is pretty much a display of photos (with some odds and ends memorabilia related to events on that day) and audio tour of the timeline that lead up to that day, events during that day, and the days following. What a sad ... read more

Honestly, I am not a fan of GWB as a President. Nor was I a fan of his father (though I was younger). But I am a geek by nature and wanted to see his Library. Having never been to a Presidential Library-I had no idea what to expect but for fans and non fans alike-I recommend his. I think overall it was well put together. The parking was not an issue for me, as I went on a weekday and I went earlier. Departing the parking lot was another story and I clearly saw frustration on people coming into the parking lot. I am not sure if they expect a little less traffic after the excitement of the opening but the line was backed up. This is not to say the GWB Library was packed ... read more

My favorite picture taking opportunities are flowers and animals. I made my way to the Dallas Zoo. It was a nice zoo and I recommend it but it was small interms of the animals. The area coverage was large (my thighs hurt from walking) but the number of animals were not many. Some of the animals were not even out and about for viewing. But it was a pleasure nonetheless. One thing I realize though, seeing African animals within the zoo confinements is not the same anymore after seeing them in their own environment in Africa. I realized this when I made my way to the reptiles and saw the Monitor Lizard. So much so that I did not even go to the Elephant, Giraffes, Warthog, etc exhibits. I am beginning to wonder when I make ... read more

We made it to Dallas after a 380 mile journey against some amazing side winds; it hardly let up at all. Traveling across the Country in May has some distinct advantages when it comes to small crowds at the National Parks, availability in the RV parks, and for the most part the days are cool. However, the winds in May out west are tough...at least they were for me! We probably wrote this already, but there isn't much to see in terms of landscapes from Amarillo to Dallas, but the speed limits are high and the roads fairly good so we made great time in the Camp Boss. Our park, Shady Creek RV and Storage is located in Aubrey Tx and is one of the cleanest and best maintained parks we stayed in on the trip. ... read more

Welcome Back to this edition of the blog. July – August 2010 Well, last time we left you we were just about to embark on the 27 hour mammoth bus journey from Vegas to Dallas. Well, we boarded the bus and soon realised that we were sitting with some odd balls, some homeless and some very nice people, it was a real mix on the fun bus!!!! Kate and I saddled up rode shotgun with the driver. We covered 7 hours in no time and had to change in flagstaff which is not far from the Grand Canyon. We jumped off and joined another queue for the next bus and whilst doing this we began talking to many of the other passengers, which included a special agent from New York, Selwyn who was travelling the 2 ... read more

Geo: 32.778, -96.7956DAY ONE (1/3/13)—St. Louis > Dallas > TokyoWe are traveling American Airlines from St. Louis to Dallas; then an American/JAL (Japan Air) to Tokyo, with Hanoi as our ultimate first destination. We arrive two days early … to give us time to recover from jet lag … and because we had to travel early in order to secure business class seats with our American Airlines Advantage points. (Patrick is 6'6" and the extra leg room is critical to his mental and physical wellbeing.)The flight is uneventful, which is always good. Last time we flew JAL, coming back from Hong Kong through Tokyo in the mid-80s, I remember the service and the food as luxurious. Not so much anymore. For one, we are flying business class, not first. For another, it's a different millennium. Things ... read more

October 9--Left Colorado and headed for Texas today. Time to get back there and see my other family. I wish I could move Pueblo and Dallas closer, clone myself or use the space relocater from Star Trek. (Beam me to Dallas, Scotty) It sure would be easier, not to mention faster! October 10—Spent a day and night in Palo Duro Canyon State Park. This is supposed to be Texas' answer to the Grand Canyon, but for once, Texas size isn't the largest! At 120 miles long it is considered the second largest canyon in the US. (Grand is 277 miles) In places it is 20 miles wide, which seems more like a valley than a canyon at a look. The canyon was formed by the Red River which flows on down to become the boundary line ... read more
