Geo: 32.778, -96.7956Thursday night we spent in Hope, Arkansas. When we got up on Friday, we went to visit Bill Clinton's boyhood home. He lived there from birth to four years old, but was there often until he was ten since it was his grandparent's home. Arriving in Dallas Friday afternoon, we stopped at El Fenix for lunch then checked into The Highland for the weekend. Phil had time to finish grading most everything so we will have most of our time free for the next couple of days. For dinner, we walked to Campisi's Italian restaurant, also known as The Egyptian. It's a popular local bar and restaurant that is known as the place where Jack Ruby had dinner the night before he shot Lee Harvey Oswald. Phil liked his pizza; my veal scallopini was ... read more

Well here we go. Wonderful news yesterday as my hotel in Dublin was CANCELED. Seems they sent me an email and I did not respond. Checked my emails....nope not a one in spam or email folder. Hmmm Euro has changed since March, maybe they wanted more funds. Rebooked at a higher price but hopefully there will be a room or we will adding to the Irish homeless quantity. Ralf has run off the bartender but hopefully he will be back before the 2:45 departure. Dallas has a small Skyclub and limited alcohol selection but they are plentiful with what they have in stock. NO Boonesfarm! And they took Ralf's away thru the TSA Check! For those of you who followed before....I can't seem to get this on the right blog. Soooo.....Sorry...I an not technilogicly inclined' I ... read more

Geo: 32.778, -96.7956After a nice sit-down-and-order breakfast in the hotel, we took a driving tour of east Dallas. We first drove by the house where Jane was living when Philip was born. We went by a couple of years ago when we were here, but forgot to take photos that day. Next we drove by his childhood home expecting to photograph it, too. There were several people out in the yard next door and someone was trimming the trees in front of his house so I didn't pull out the camera. I didn't want to set off a neighborhood watch alert or get anyone worried. We did take photos last time we were here.We drove to St. Marks Presbyterian church and stopped since a car was parked in the front lot. Philip tried the front doors, ... read more

Geo: 32.778, -96.7956Drove to Dallas today and checked into The Highland for two nights. Philip made arrangements with one of his high school buddies to meet him with his wife for dinner. We met Marion and Diane at Seasons 52 in North Park mall and had a great time. The guys were able to catch up on what they've done for the past 45 years and reminisced a little. "Do you remember so-and-so?" He's or she's doing this and that now. Marion has kept up better than Philip has. I imagine still living in the Dallas area has made that easier for him. ... read more

Geo: 32.778, -96.7956We left 9511 at 6am and drove to see Scott reeves and his family. We purchased some donuts and arrived with smiles on the kids faces. Glenn even purchased some chocolate milk. The youngest child was just 6 weeks old. The children were well behaved. We left after a quick 1.5 hour visit and headed towards Wichita Falls. We ate lunch with the Hills (Jack and Carolyn). We met them on Trans-Atlantic cruise several years ago. They are missionaries serving with Navigators. We had a great lunch at Red Lobster. They visited a long long time, until it was time to start driving towards OKC.We got a phone call from Ellen and she mentioned it was ok for us to pick up the 2 girls and take them with us to Colorado. We drove ... read more

Today we drove into Dallas. They have some really cool buildings. Went to see the Texas School Book Depository and The Grassy Knoll. If you don't know what they are look up John F. Kennedy, November, 1963. I remember it so vividly I was sitting in Geometry when the announcement was made over the PA system. Chills to this day.... read more

My third and final week in the Fort Worth/Dallas megalopolis started off with overcast, non-threatening skies and a predicted zero percent chance of rain. Save one day of partly cloudy, the remainder of the week was grim with a couple days in the range of a 70 to 80 percent chance of rain, so I took advantage of the weather and headed to Irving TX to check out the Mustangs of Las Colinas & Museum Exhibit. The statue is tucked in a plaza that is surrounded by three multi-story buildings (residential, office, who knows), but, as is the case with a lot of commercial properties, the ground floor is occupied by retail enterprises. My sources indicate there is a small museum (my assumption being based on it being open only a few hours a couple of ... read more

On a Wednesday, my normal travel day, I violated one of the tenets of traveldom, “Don’t visit field-trip-friendly attractions on a school day” and set out for the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History in, youbetya, Fort Worth. My research indicated there were three institutions linked in some fashion, but I really wasn’t able to decipher the exact relationship so I selected what seemed to be the Grand Mother Bear of the lot as identified above. After exiting the freeway, I began to see blue signs touting “Tourist Information.” Plan B – stop there to get informed. I missed the turn because, for no apparent reason, the blue signs became brown (or green or red, but they appeared brown). I backtracked but could find no other signage – blue or brown. On to the Fort ... read more

I departed Midland RV Park in Midland TX under mostly sunny skies on Wednesday, March 30, 2016. About half way through the trip, I was greeted to the moister, more lush side of Texas by occasional patches of bluebonnets along Interstate 20. The further east I drove, the thicker became the cumulus clouds in the distance. As I passed Abilene TX, those puffy clouds began to take on a gray hue. As I neared Fort Worth TX, a brief spell of light sprinkles on my windshield reminded me of how dusty it had been in wind-blown west Teas the past two days. The traffic was light in the megaplex as I traversed the freeway system. The folks on the truck radio told me that the National Weather Service had issued a severe thunderstorm warning. I made ... read more
