Woke up in the creepiest hostel I have ever stayed at and got dressed in the dark. I left the hostel at around 5:30AM and I will never return to that particular hostel. I drove on the highway for awhile before stopping at a Denny's for breakfast. This would be my only meal until I reach Dallas in the evening. I usually skip lunch on vacation and load up at breakfast to compensate. I also loaded up on caffeine pills at this point to keep me awake on the road. I will advise people to very careful with caffeine pills because they are addictive. They should be only used for emergency situations. Drive to Dallas was uneventful but I enjoyed looking at the billboard advertisements on the highway. The Americans advertise so much better on the ... read more

Geo: 32.778, -96.7956I worked half a day, but Philip took the whole day off. We picked up Erin for the ride to the Sunport and had dinner there before our flight. It's been a while since we traveled on Southwest, but it was okay. Since it was the best way to get to Love Field non-stop, we decided it was worth trying them again. That was much better than going through Houston or Denver like we would have had to do on United.Picked up the rental car and drove straight to the hotel which took only about ten minutes. The Ambassador Suite at the Embassy Suites is great. They have only a few two-bedroom suites, but I booked early enough to get one. The living/dining/kitchen is huge and both bedrooms have their own bathrooms. Too bad ... read more

Geo: 32.778, -96.7956Since I had this "FREE" trip to Uruguay and back, I decided this would be a good time to see Baby Lucy. In checking the rates, I booked and confirmed a ticket to Indianapolis and back to DFW via United Airlines. I knew I needed a few days of rest before I flew up to see I love Lucy. But first, I needed to get my hair cut. I had an appointment at my hair stylist at 12noon, but I changed it til 1:30pm, so I could get a quick nap in. Friday night was Halloween. The door bell rang about 10 times for G'daddy to get up out of his bed and answer it. Karen and Thomas came over and we watched taped episodes of Amazing Race. We got all caught up. I ... read more

Geo: 32.778, -96.7956Good morning. I thought I would write my monthly note to y'all and just recap our time in Germany. When it became apparent that we were still in the States and could possibly fly over to Frankfurt and return on Scott Russell's last flight, we talked it through and realized that this was one of those time where we had to jump to the opportunity. There have been things that we have chosen not to do, and we have regretted it, so going on that premises', we decided to fly over to Frankfurt on August 20 and return on August 28, Scott's final flight before he retired. (It was Karen's suggestion that we go and spend some time over there, otherwise, I was just thinking of flying over on Wed & return Friday.Wednesday, August ... read more

Since we were here in Dallas we decided to do a little sightseeing. We went to Dealey Plaza and the Grassy Knoll. The assassination of President Kennedy has always fascinated, saddened, and intrigued me so I wanted to visit the Book Depository and museum in downtown Dallas. I have watched many television shows about this and heard all the different theories on what happened. It was very interesting to finally be there and see where it actually happened. I must say that it was not what I expected and I was disappointed after the "tour". Can't really put my finger on why or what I was expecting. Guess sometimes things just don't live up to what you are expecting.... read more

1. To the USA and Dallas Unlike my earlier trips the reason for the trip was to see the extended family who are all scattererd around the USA. As a higher conentration was in the south and west I decided to limit the trip to the states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona,Nevada and California. We had previously been to Indiana, New York and the GreatLake states. There was time limit of maximum 15days as Thankam could not avail of more days of off work. We booked the most convenient of flights to Dallas leaving Dublin at Nnon and reaching Dallas in the evening approx 7 PM. There would still enough day light left to get to our first stop in Frisco. We were cleared with ETA which was a pre-requisite under the Visa waiver programme. The ... read more

I did not think another Botanical Garden will be as great or greater then Denver's. Boy was I wrong. Dallas's Arboretum and Botanical Gardencertainly is giving them a run for their money. It was a little pricey ($15 plus $10 for parking) but overall worth it. There was a lovely couple who were initially behind me, they accidentally cut the line infront of me, I think once the lady realized what happened she felt badly about it and she actually offered her membership card to get me in for free. I was not angry about the cut. I was not in a rush. For me it was no big deal but I certainly appreciated the kind gesture as she did not have to do that. It was a great set up. Currently they are presenting an ... read more
