Temp: 15 Degrees Bags to coach, 7.45. we headed to the big texan again for breakfast then onto the bus for departure at 8am. Just down the road we stoped at a place called the 'Cadilac Ranch' a place where someone has burried a whole bunch of old cadilacs nose deep in the sand where you can spray paint on them and leave your mark for future travelers to view. A few more rest stops along the way and 7-8 hours later we made it to Dallas. Huge traffic jams heading into the city delayed our arrival to our hotel however by 5pm we had arrived. Another quick turn around and we were all off for a 15 min walk to our dinner destination Gators Bar for our mexican feast. Then those who wanted to headed ... read more

They say once you're out of Texas, you are half way to where you are going...........so we are almost there. We've seen more oil pumps, cottonfields, windmills and long-horn cattle than in any of our travels. We had a wonderful visit with Tom's son, Mike and our daughter-in-law, Donna. No surprise that Mike enjoys the smokin'/grillin' thing like his Dad. He grilled a wonderful dinner for us in his "Green Egg." Tom would go buy one, for sure, if we could travel with it. We spent the weekend doing what many families do-- FOOTBALL! Amazing to find all four of us loving football! I have a picture of the campground we stayed at in Dallas below. Let's just say it isn't our usual venue. It will take us three more weeks to get out of Texas. ... read more

Day 13 - Thursday, August 30th, 2012 We left Mitchell, South Dakota and started heading south toward home. We had planned on spending the night about half way home, somewhere on the Kansas/Oklahoma border. We crossed over into Oklahoma and tried to find a place to stay but everything was full with oil field workers. When we reached Oklahoma City and still hadn't found a place we decided rather than spend the night in Oklahoma City we would drive on home since we were only about 3 or 4 hours from there. We arrived home at 11:00 p.m after driving 798 miles. It was a good trip and I was not ready for it to be over.... read more

Flying back into the states was pretty horrible. We lined up at immigration for over 2 & a half hours. They were so unorganised and under staff (there were about 60 desks but only 3 people working), that our queue would hardly move, because the later it got, the more people had to be moved to the front to get their connecting flights and there were so many people with wheelchairs that also kept going to the front. After eventually getting through, we took the shuttle to the car hire centre and decided to hire from Avis again. We drove to Dallas, without much of a plan, except to get a drink and eat because we had left our hotel at 3am in the morning and didn't get through the airport until nearly lunch time. We ... read more

So im off. First post on my "see the world trip" So im in Dallas, big town Dallas, not in Kansas anymore.. Wow! Straight Up Hardcore American Republican Town with a Mexican Twist. Texas is something worth visiting, for many reasons; 1. As locals explain "Everything is bigger in Texas" 2. Mexican food is somewhat unique compared to the rest of white dominated countries, its just over the border. As well as illegal immigrants, drugs and weapson secretly smuggling through the security lines, it seems so do the mouth watering recipes from down south. 3. History is somewhat controversial. With the Cowboy nature still engulfed in the republic oil rich people, it is its strong and passoinate people which give Texas its rich culture. Rich in the sense that its maintained its pride in the "Power of ... read more

On board my flight to Dallas. Wish I had time to stop in and see Kari Ensign. I'll wave to you from the airport, Kari! Scared out of my mind and so excited. Sat by a lady in the terminal that sang Happy Birthday to her dog-who then peed on some newspapers near where I was sitting. (The dog, not the lady.) Saw a family of foxes as we took off. and now looking over the clouds thinking about how I need to go skydiving again. The brave couple next to me is traveling to Paris with two kids under 2. My tray table is covered with 2 open cans of soda, 3 full glasses of water/soda, 2 bottles of formula, a couple tupperware bowls of Cheetos and Cheerios-- none of it mine-- and there are ... read more
