We left Fort Collins early in the morning. We had booked spaces on the shuttle bus to Denver airport. As we got on the highway, we hit really bad traffic and we were panicking for a bit that we would miss our flight as we were going at a snail's pace. However, we got past the jam and picked up speed. We didn't get to the airport too much later than we should have done. We had already done online check-in, so after dropping our bags, we headed through security. The queues were quite big, but they moved pretty swiftly. We were starving, so we had a look around for somewhere to eat. We had a while before our flight so we picked a nice looking restaurant to get some breakfast in. We quickly ordered our ... read more

The trip into Nola was hazardous rain on and off. Angie drove to the conditions. Francine only squealed once and held on tight to the OS bar. Traffic was backed up approaching the city and we needed a bathroom break, pulled off and getting back on required a u turn, but Angie was in a lane a and wanting to make a u turn and because of the hard rain didn't see the no u turn sign and flashing lights and a whooping siren from the police car behind her, alerted her to that fact. So we pulled over 3 lanes but the cop just went by us. Thank heavens the cop didn't want to write a ticket in a cloud burst. Our hotel Courtyard Marriott was on St. Charles Street just one block from the ... read more

Day 6 - Houston to Broussard (4th of July) This morning we spent some time after breakfast in the pool and then started our next leg of the journey. We were headed to Tony's Aunt and Uncle's place in Louisiana. We finally were headed into a new state with our trailer which means a new sticker! The drive itself was pretty uneventful. We took minor highways when possible and saw how the architecture changed as we got closer to the gulf. There were some pretty terrible roads but we made good time and got to the house in the late afternoon. Tony's Aunt, Uncle and two cousins were there. We had a good time catching up with everyone and Michelle had a chance to drive an ATV through the cane fields and play with her cousin, ... read more

So......... we extended our stay to spend time with Hippy Jim & Donna and attend the beach party. It was also Graemeā€™s birthday, what a nice way to celebrate it. Well, one day turned into two then three. Not only did we have a lovely party day but on Sunday Jim took us out in his boat on the Intracoastal Waterway which his house backs onto. It is the waterway that runs 3,000-mile (4,800 km) along the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico from Boston Massachusetts to Brownsville Texas. We sailed about 5 miles of it so only have 2,995 mile to go. We spotted a pod of Dolphins, looked at beautiful scenery, saw many birds, enjoyed lunch, had a few beers, and briefly got the boat grounded, due to Jims high speed approach on a non ... read more

Greetings from Baton Rouge, LA! 484 extremely hot miles today. I left Fort Payne, AL at 3:00am and arrived in Baton Rouge, LA at about 3:00pm. It's great to see my old friends again and for the next two days, I will be here in Baton Rouge catching up. As for the trip home: Currently, a large part of the country is experiencing a major heat wave. Specifically, the areas that I will be riding through fro the remainder of the trip will be dangerously hot. Some of there desert areas will be in excess of 120 degrees. This is the point where it stops being about the ride, stops being about having fun and starts being a death march. Additionally, I have to remove a majority of my protective gear in order to survive heat ... read more

**My apologies, I haven't published a blog entry in a few days, I've written them but somehow they didn't publish. I'll resume below.** Greetings from Baton Rouge, LA. No riding today, just taking some time to hang out with old friends. Before I get into what we did today, let me relate to you the tale of how I came to know these particular friends and how I came to live in Baton Rouge back then as well as how I have the career that I have now as it is all intertwined. Grab a beer and get comfortable because I've never written this whole story down before and it's going to take a while to relate. Many many years ago, I was offered the opportunity to serve as an AmeriCorps National Rapid Response Corps (NRRC) ... read more

Our first stop was New Orleans to visit with one of the four musketeers, Brooke Biggs. We found a nice state park near their home, Fairview-Riverside State Park ($25/night) that turned out to be very nice. We ate a late dinner at Morton's featuring some great seafood. The next day the Biggs were kind enough to take us on a tour of New Orleans and let us rest and enjoy. They drove us across the 24 mile bridge to New Orleans; we went to Landry's Seafood for lunch. Then they took us to visit one of the New Orleans Dens to see parade floats, the Mississippi River, French Quarter, levy system. They then prepared a delicious dinner for us. It was a fantastic experience thanks to great hosts. ... read more

Geo: 29.9537, -90.0778This was my last day in NOLA and I was ready to head home to eat a giant salad. I'd had a long week of binging on food and drinking every night. It was time to relax again. Not that I actually know how to be still for very long. I get bored and need to move or accomplish something. Anyway, check out was 10am but my classes were going to last until 1pm. So, that meant dragging all my luggage with me class to class at the conference center. While I wasn't the only nurse doing so I think I was probably the one with the most luggage. I felt like I would have been amusing to watch- midget buried under all her own crap moving at turtle pace. After my classes, it was ... read more

Geo: 29.9537, -90.0778This was my last full day of classes and I'm not gonna lie, I was way more interested in sight-seeing at this point. I went to a morning class and then headed back out to meet Anna for last minute wandering and eating. We were supposed to do another walking tour that day but we cancelled last minute so we could souvenir shop. I met her at the famed Cafe du Monde so we could compare it to the beignets we had our first night in town. Verdict? I prefer the other place more. Cafe du Monde was crispier and I enjoyed the softer ones more. It all comes down to personal taste, though. =) We ended up back at French Marker for MORE oysters, and to shop. I ended up buying some mardi ... read more

Geo: 29.9537, -90.0778Today was my long day in classes so there's less to say about the goings-on of this day then the others. It was raining lightly on my morning commute walking and taking the streetcar to the convention center. It was incredibly muggy, like being in a rainforest. I also sent a quick email to the landlord of the studio, telling her what happened with the shutter being pried open (part of it was now broken) and literally asking at the end of the email if the property happened to be haunted by any chance. Yeah. I went there.I had time to go to one of the SuperSessions today and was stunned by the impressiveness of the ceremonies and speakers. It looked like a rock concert in there and the energy was intense. ... read more
