Geo: 32.3283, -93.2797This posting was NOT proof-read by Glenn, so please disregard any grammatical mistakes that I have posted. We got up early, like around 5am and left for the last leg on our trip. Since we had lunch planned with Savana at her school in Shreveport at noon, we had to leave early enough to have enough time to walk through BMA camp, Miracle Camp.We were greeted by the new camp director. He mentioned that BMA went bankrupt in 1994. The day BMA was going to "give" the camp over to Awana, there was a car accident and a person was killed. Awana decided not to take the "camp" because of pending litigations of law suits and stuff.BMA camp was finally purchased by a church in Kansas City and then the camp part was "broken off" ... read more

Day 11 New Orleans First full day in New Orleans, so earlyish doors we headed down to the river and went on a paddle steamer "the Natchez" this took us up the river past some sights and back, which took a couple of hours ! Despite the forecast of thunder and lightning every day, the sun was reduculously hot and we both got burnt ! After a spot of lunch we took our knackered and sore feet and sweating bodies and hit the hotel pool for a couple of hours, a much needed relax session ! (A hard life ) For the evening we again headed down bourbon street . . . . Cos that's where it's at !! Pretty rowdy for a Monday ! We ended up in a cool jazz club called fritzels had ... read more

Day 10 New Orleans We got some gas as we left Vicksburg and we headed south to New Orleans which would be our last leg of our trip ! The journey would take about 3 and a half hours and take us across the state lines again from Mississippi to Louisiana ! The trip was going to plan right up to when we entered New Orleans, the sky turned a very angry shade of grey ! The heavens opened up and the mother of all storms raged for about 20 minutes ! We got through it and arrived at our new digs, we quickly headed out for a bite to eat and a few beers, The food of the south is called gumbo so that's what we had . . . Very nice ! We had ... read more

As we drove the coast road from Tallahassee passing through two states Alabama and Mississippi we knew that we would spend more time in these places but for now we were New Orleans bound. As we drew closer to New Orleans we could see the oil rigs out at sea and the Gulf how vulnerable the coast line was along these coastal towns. We saw vacant blocks of beach front properties. With a drive that leads nowhere, a house that once stood and that had been destroyed by hurricanes which torment this part of the world. People have rebuilt wonderful new homes, but have raised them high on piers , just to give extra protection from raising tides.Beaches were full with family's having fun. Entering New Orleans that is protected by levies that try and protect ... read more

Our last morning in New Orleans. Since we were starting our road trip today, we had plenty of free time, so decided to spend the morning in New Orleans, seeing one of the places that we hadn't visited yet. St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 is the oldest and most famous cemetery in New Orleans. Due to vandalism by some idiots, the cemetery cannot be visited by individual tourist, and instead people can only visit it on an organised tour. Why is it that the few always spoil it for the many. We had booked a tour the day before with Gray Line, their 'Cemetery and Voodoo Walking Tour', which was $20+. There are free walking tours, where you only have to pay the $2 entrance fee to the cemetery, but I think we left it too ... read more

Our last full day in New Orleans. We had already done quite a lot during our stay in New Orleans, and we had something a little bit special planned for that evening, so we decided to take it easy during the day. We had done pretty much all we wanted to do and had booked cemetery tour for the following morning, so our first part of call was to head out for some breakfast. After doing some research online, we found a place that had good reviews and was a typical diner set up. I hadn't been to a proper diner yet, so wanted to get that checked off my USA to do list. The place we found was on Magazine Street so we headed back to the Garden District. It wasn't too busy as we ... read more

Another busy day! We were up early again in the morning as there was a lot we wanted to pack into today. The first thing on our itinerary for the day was to attend the New Orleans School of Cooking. The cuisine of this region is one of things that attracted me to visit the South and I was looking forward to learning more about it. Even though the cooking school is centrally located, we drove there. Having a car is making me so lazy on this trip! Once, we were there, we got all checked in and headed through to the kitchen and dining room. I'm a bit disappointed that this cooking class is really just a demonstration as I would have preferred something more hands on, but meant we got to be lazy, which ... read more

Today we decided to have a more relaxing day, so we'd had a few busy ones. Our first stop was some brunch and I had found a place online that I had wanted to try. Atchafalaya is on the edge of the Garden District, so we drove over there. It didn't take too long to get there. This was our first time to visit the Garden District. The area seemed really residential. We headed over to the restaurant and got a table out on the deck, tucked away from the street. I liked this spot as you could people watch the goings on on the street, without being too close. The restaurant was in a really cute, wooden house. The building has been a restaurant since 1924, but has been through a few incarnations to become ... read more

In our wisdom or stupidity, we had decided to book a tour to the bayou and plantations for the day after we arrived in New Orleans. When we were booking it, I think we were excited, so we were thinking let's do a tour and explore straight away, but in reality we were tired and would have loved to have had a lie-in. The tour picked us up early from the end of our street. We had booked a tour with a smaller company, Tours by Isabelle, as we didn't want to be herded about on a big bus and we had read good reviews of this one on tripadvisor. They offer a few different tours an we had booked the 'Grand Tour', as we wanted to experience the bayou as well as the plantations. The ... read more
