So I drove down to New Orleans. It was a pretty uneventful drive. Straight, flat road. Then I got excited when I knew I was crossing Lake Pontchartrain. I knew it was big, but it's BIG when you are driving over it. So I get into the city and get to the hotel. I'm staying at the Wyndham St Charles Plaza. It's right on St Charles Ave in Uptown. Anyway, the room is smaller than I'm used to but enough for my needs since I'm solo on this trip. Miss Leah. Wish someone else would have gone with me. So the place has a pool, hot tub, fitness center, and an activity room. I speak to the concierge and she tells me about things to do and how to do them. 1. The Garden District-Not too ... read more

Gotta say this name right!. If there is one place in the world you can choose to see before you die, come see The Big Easy. Bourbon St, one of a kind. Flew in yesterday afternoon, checked into gorgeous little Hotel St. Marie in the French Quarter. After a rest we headed down the street to check out the sights. I think the main aim is to not only separate you from as much of your money as they can but to also turn you into an alcoholic....that's if you're not already one before you got here. Cocktails are the go. They have one called "The Hand Grenade" which is a patent & can only be sold here...we had ONE only then staggered off to order the obligatory Rib, sweet potato fries & another litre of ... read more

5th - 9th. May: We were booked into the Whitney Hotel: small, comfortable, free internet in rooms, conveniently located and we didn't have to walk miles to our room from the lobby. On first day we caught the No. 10 bus to Walmart where I bought some bubble wrap for my fan so it would have a chance of surviving the trip. We took a No. 14 bus and a short walk past some interesting houses to the zoo. On our travels we tend to visit zoos and cemeteries. Interesting with a few animals we don't see in the Perth zoo. We rode back to town on a tram that went past some very large homes - all of which were very different in style making the little trip most interesting. Taking a local bus there ... read more

I was somewhat leery when I learned my travel day would be April Fool’s Day and hoped no untoward “jokes” would be played on me. That Wednesday, April 1, 2015, found me awakening to a mild but overcast day – nothing threatening, but a layer of gray gloom obscured the blue skies. I took a brief time out during teardown to chat with a neighbor and got underway AFTER the morning rush hour since my trip north from South Main RV Park to Diamond Jacks Casino & Resort in Bossier City LA would take me northward through most of metro Houston. Irene, my GPS, directed me onto U.S. 59 until I reached Carthage TX. There I turned northeastward on U.S. 79 until I reached its intersection with I-20 near Greenwood LA. A short drive eastward on ... read more

Traveling about the world allows the opportunity to visit some truly unique and beautiful cities. Outside the United States are a plethora of cities with charm and their own special character. Regrettably, the States do not have that many candidates for this designation as other nations, mostly due to the fact that this nation is so much younger. But there are a handful of them like New York City, San Francisco and of course, New Orleans. New Orleans is a melting pot of cultures and tribal influences which provides a rich history and many ghost stories, tales of voodoo, black magic and a town that knows how to celebrate. Today on the surface of the French Quarter one might be overwhelmed by the bars and pub culture, the one too many strip club or gentleman’s palace ... read more
