Der erst... read more

Sunday, 26 March Both flights were quite eventful as far as turbulence went. The LA leg was bumpy for over 80% of the time, and the Mexico City flight was like a rollercoaster with those high rises and stomach curdling drops. I didn’t mind it though. The Air Canada lounge at LAX was a good place to whittle away a couple of hours between flights. We arrived 2 mins late to our Mexico City apartment, which is pretty impressive given I had to estimate how long it would take to get through customs and immigration and catch a taxi. Our AirBnB host, Pablo, was there as organized, and after a quick handover of how things work, he walked us several blocks out of his way to one of his favourite restaurants, La Buena Tierre. The menu ... read more

I have wanted to visit Mexico City for many years. Canadians have the second largest city in the world literally in their backyard, but few consider it a tourist destination as they generally head to the country's beach resorts. I do appreciate the safety concern over the city, but I was quickly assured when I read the Canadian government's Travel Advice and Advisories for the city. While there are a number of travel advisories for the western and northern states, there is none currently for Mexico City. As it turned out, I felt safe during my entire visit. Once again, I chose two neighborhoods to fully appreciate what Mexico City had to offer. Our first stop was the neighborhood of Roma Norte, which looks more like a European neighborhood than a Latin American one. While it ... read more

One of my many trips to Mexico. This time it was for Martin's 50th. Martin is an Orozco and Orozcos are known to be very generous people. It was the best 50th birthday party I've ever been to in my life. It took place on his ranch on the outskirts of Mexico City. https://youtu.be/qRJLMZU5PSE https://youtu.be/APJ-EexlW80 https://youtu.be/b1cVqnXB2VA https://youtu.be/tHkbPan9Y0o https://youtu.be/KQYflmZg57w https://youtu.be/oxT_SRAmx5Y https://youtu.be/50WaknHjSKk https://youtu.be/ww4IX4D9-6M https://youtu.be/p... read more

What a ride it's been. Ole Mae is my savior, my guardian angel, my muse. She has miraculously stayed intact for this crazy drive, which would tear a lesser car apart. She's old dirty and beat up, but does the job well. Just like your mom!! :D I woke up with the sun in Real de Catorce to find myself right next to a church surrounded by a stone wall beneath a little mountain. I walked up most of the way for amazing morning landscapes. I saw a few people who barely seemed to care that a random gringo had been sleeping in his car by the road. I spent a few hours walking around "the town of stones and dust" I call it. It sits in a valley between mountains, and everything is stones: the ... read more

Leaving early morning heading to Mexico city a population of 8.9 million the 4th largest city in the world with 21 million taking in the surrounding areas. Mexico city is so large because it is in the valley where lots of cactus grow even at and elevation of 2500 meters. The legend believes a cactus with a serpent and an eagle is the place to live, the legend is what has grown this land to this mass population. A highway of 6 lanes entering into the city that has restrictions of vehicles entering by the plate numbers only 3 times per week, still took 2 hours to go 40 kms. However the driving was very sane and not as threatening as we find in our English speaking parts of North America, With this population that us ... read more

Mexico City a quick stopover on the way to Mickey We arrived late in Mexico city after yet another very comfortable, and unfortunately, last bus trip in Mexico. They saved the best for last (if you ask Dillon) as he was very excited when 5 minutes before the bus left the Dominoes delivery man (no kidding) came into the bus to sell Pizzas. Being the good parents we are (and because we wanted him to be quiet) he was munching on a fresh pepperoni Pizza in no time. It was dark by the time we left our new hotel and we headed for the central plaza which adorns the huge cathedral. There we saw one of the natural spectacles of Mexico. A demonstration. Thousands of demonstrators were marching through the plaza with hundreds of policemen watching ... read more
