Selvitin edellisiltana etta Frida Kahlon museo oli auki jouluaatosta huolimatta klo 10 - 14. Menimme sinne heti aamupalan jalkeen, metrolla kymmenen aseman valia ja sitten kavelya 1,5 km. Olimme perilla klo 10.30. Illalla oli sangen hiljaista hotellin ympäristössä.... read more

December, 2015 Preparing for our winter trip from Mexico City to Panama City. Most hotel stays are pre-booked. Travel will be mainly by bus or shuttle, with some water taxis. Lots of walking. It is our favourite way to explore. The itinerary is a mix of inland and coastal centres, big and small. The longest stay in any one place is 5 nights. Bus and shuttle travel will vary too, with some longer rides, including one overnight bus trip. We don't speak Spanish, but will do our best to try. Planning was done largely online. We will have a Footprint guide book and a good road map with us. We are taking a laptop to keep in touch when wifi allows. We may purchase a sim card for a phone. I've never used a travel blog. ... read more

Käytiin aamiaisella eilisillan paikassa. Kyyti kentälle lähti klo 10. Madridin kentän ilmainen wifi on surkea. Pitäisi antaa paljon tietoja 15 minuuttia varten. Päästiin lennolla istumaan vierekkäin kun vierustoveri suostui vaihtamaan paikkoja. Kentältä taksilla hotelliin. Hotelli on Zona Rosan alueella, huone 15. kerroksessa. Nakyma lanteen. Iltaruoka ja nukkumaan 24 tunnin valvomisen jälkeen.... read more

Today was a 50 km day trip to the ruins of another ancient civilization outside the city known as Teotihuacan. Caotic traffic & smog is now evident outside of the old town. Its not helped by a practice seen along the way were thousands of homes reaching into the foothills of a once national park but illegally built by immigrants looking for work. Now these homes can be legally owned once they have been occupied for 50 years while the land still belongs to the government. The Teotihuacan’s were one of the earliest of many ancient civilizations that have risen & fallen over eons of Mexican history. These civilizations also include the Olmecs, Mayans, Toltecs, Aztecs among many other regional settlements. The peak of this civilization was thought to be between 200 BC & 100 AD ... read more

9am start with a short drive to the historical Zocalo site of the Metropolitan Cathedral, one of the oldest and largest in the Americas, and the National Palace, home of the famous murals of Diego Rivera. Rivera is revered for his pre-Hispanic depictions of indigenous culture. The palace is no longer the residence of the president but a rather underutilized government ceremonial function centre. We then visited the ruins of the Templo Mayor (Main Temple) known at the time as Tenochtitlán, capital of the Aztec empire. The ruins are virtually in the centre of the Zocalo but remained hidden from the world until excavations in 1978 accidently discovered the ruins which were lost to the world due to a combination of subsidence & progressive building over the site by each new wave of conquerors. The Templo ... read more

3 flights totalling 20 hrs plus 5 hrs in transit made for a very tiring day. The 15 hr Sydney – Dallas leg of the trip is the longest nonstop flight around however the A380 made the flight bareable with a good sleep during the night. Arrived late on the same day due to the time difference but straight to bed to try & adjust to the jetlag ASAP. My hotel for the first two nights was well located near the heart of the old town – Zocolo square, listed by UNESCO as World Heritage. One of the most populous (20+ mil) and highest cities in the world at 2250 mtrs and known for its love hate relationship with visitors. The city has a reputation for a chaotic atmosphere where major traffic congestion & chronic air ... read more

Its official... Bogota has now overtaken Manila in the city with the least photographs taken. the only ones were when I was in the air, and at the departure lounge! After leaving Salento we had to catch our flight from Bogota and of course.. you must visit the capital if you can! We had met lots of people who said it was rubbish.,.. and it kind of was. Very cold - about 11 daily and 4 overnight, i checked and glasgow was warmer while we were there! And not really much to see. I didnt really feel scared, but there was so many police you kind of wondered if it was only safe because of the police. We didnt do much, had a big night out, then a hangover, then just kicked about. IT was also ... read more
