So here goes...having postponed putting this site together for the last 5 months, I've finally got my act together. Ironically, I am no longer in Vancouver (sitting in a Cairo internet cafe) but it's best to start this site properly, with the amazing couple of months that I spent at home. This was the first visit in 8 years to be more than 2 weeks, which meant a proper catch up with friends and family all over the place. But as I want to crack on to where I am now, I'll try my best to keep this short and sweet! My first couple of weeks were quiet, but I soon set off on foot around the city I've missed so over the years. What amazing weather, I know I know, I was extremely lucky, as ... read more

Well in the last 8 days I we have traveled almost 3000km through landscape ranging from tropical forests to desert wineries to glacier fields and back again. We got a hire car and then tented along the way. Was a bit wiered being on the wrong side of the road! Highlights were: The Rock Mountains and the engineering needed to create a road through them. The wildlife including wolves, moose, deer and birds (eagles, osprey, quails and ducks) but unfortunately no bears despite Jason’s reassurance that we would soon see one… The fried halibut and chips at a shop claiming to have “the best chips in the world” - apparently that means their allowed to charge $10 for one piece of fish and a few bits of potato. We are now in rainy Jasper. Since we last wrote to you from Vancouver we have explored far and wide. We picked up our campervan on the 5th of May and I bravely headed out into the traffic - on the wrong side of the road and car of course! It was manic, 4 lanes and then 5 all going around 100k/h heading who knows where in such a hurry. We made it to the ferry terminal at Twassen about 40 minutes later - nerves completely shattered. We took the ferry to Vancouver Is, about 2 hours. We drove from the terminal to the Butchart Gardens. These were established 101 years ago and are absolutley fantastic. The best bit is the Japanese section, some of which is over 75 years. I also liked the revamped quarry. ... read more

This is my first Travel Blog page so please excuses spelling mistakes, grammar mistakes and any other kind of mistake that will appear. This is my third time righting this little blog, there are a number of excuses one being this computer I'm on has really high virus protection on it and the other being that some times I can just be an idiot. So basically my last two attempts at a journal covered the highlights and lowlights of Banff. They where a bit more detailed than this one is going to be. I have about 10 days left in Banff and only 6 more days at work so I'm really starting to look forward to traveling with Kate Lacey. But the purpose of this Journal was to talk out the last 7 long but great ... read more

It was pretty coming into Calgary last night with all the lights of the city in full blaze - not as much colour as Sydney by night but still cool. After a stop over in LA I arrived in Vancouver where - following a delay of around 1 hour waiting for my bags - I was met at the airport by Jason, a mate from Uni. We then got the bus to Whistler where he lives and on the way saw some incredibe scenery. Spent the next week or so in Whistler where we did some biking (cross country and down hill), skiing, tennis and general tourist stuff. Also went on a Contiki tour canoe trip which was great evern though it was about 10 deg and raining. The punters werent prepared very well and some went for a swim but all had a great time. Got to meet lots of great people through Jason which was fantastic and made some contacts that could come in ... read more

I am on my way! I leave for the airport in a few hours and I thought that I should take care of a few things first. The first and really only thing to take care of is writting this journal and sending this page out to everyone. Lets start this story at the beginning so everyone is on the same page. the story so far... After suffering a devistating defeat at the battle of graduating from the Univerity of Waterloo, I have found that I have to one CSC (or Complimentary Studies Course) over the summer term, which would make it hard to travel. So as usual in the cosmic balance, my bad luck at having to take a course gave way to taking a two week course in London, England touring around. Sounds like ... read more

Well Dan's been gone for a few weeks now, he's off down in Costa Rica soaking up the sun and enjoying the surf while I'm left back here at the coalface trying to save up and visit him. Check out his blog in the Costa Rica section to see what he's been up to. Meanwhile, the weather's been warming up here, and like Dan said in the last blog I finally got a good electrical job for a little local company in Banff which is awesome. apart from that I have to get up early now, and think about stuff during the day, and rip the crap out of my poor hands that haven't even seen tools for over a year now... great to have some money coming in again though, times were getting tough there ... read more

Today's the day, woohoo! Too many stupid things left to the last minute calls for a near all nighter, it's 4am and I just finished packing. I really have some unrealistic idea's about how much I can fit in that damn backpack, but it should be good now. Time will tell. So I grab the bus in two hours, 3.5 hours on that bad boy and I am at the airport. 6 hours of extreme airport fun while awaitng my flight (can you feel the sarcasm?) and I will be flying to Glasgow. Anyway, wish me luck, and I'm going back to checking things. I just know I am going to forget at least one "important" thing. If all goes well, I will next be writing to you all from Sunny Scotland!... read more

North America » Canada » Quebec » Québec City May 3rd 2005

The first time I took a long trip was about 1.5 years ago. I drove from LA, CA to Quebec, Canada and back in 7 days. It was a 7500 Mile trip and I drove there in 2.5 days, stayed there for 2 days and drove back in 2.5 days. I didn't sleep the entire week, I barley ate as I only had $950 for this whole trip, and gas took us $600 of that. I ate only beef jerky the entire time and spent the rest of the money on drinks and smokes. The most I had ever driven before that was to Las Vegas from LA. A 4 hour drive. Quebec impressed me more then I would have thought, I was in Old Town Quebec visiting a friend. The city is actually very nice. ... read more
