On Friday we drove from Big White down to Vancouver then up to Whistler. We stayed in an awesome condo in the middle of the village, about a 3 minute walk from the gondolas that go up the mountain. We even managed to pickup free internet on Sean's laptop from one of the nearby hotels. While we were there they had the Ski and Snowboard Festival in full swing, it was such a change from whole family focus they had a Big White. There was a huge stage set up where they had bands and music in the afternoons and at night. On Saturday night they had a heap of hip hop playing with really good MCs and DJs. So here I am - four days in to my trip and I've enjoyed every second so far. There's so much to tell you all because there has been so much happening since we set off on Friday. I think I've done more things in four days than I would normally do in six months! Day 1: Flew from Heathrow to Toronto. Pretty uneventful flight and we landed about 15 minutes early. We were at our (very presentable) hostel by 4pm local time and we were in a room for four. We later met our first room mate of the trip, Kumar. Well, I booked my flight the other day, so I now have an exact date. I will be flying out from Toronto to Glasgow, Scotland on May 3rd, 2005. Given that I have some close relatives in the Glasgow area, I will be spending some time with them, getting my bearings, and generally catching up on things since I haven't visited them since leaving Scotland to move to Canada in 1998. When ready, I will then take a bus or train to Edinburgh, where I used to live in Scotland, to visit all my old mates there. I'm really looking forward to seeing the old gang again, it's been too long. When I'm there I will find a discount carrier flight to whatever city I decide to start my journey in, likely Rome. Well, the season here at Big White is over. For about 5 weeks in the middle there we had hardly any fresh snow fall and we watched as our base slowly shrank and rocks started appearing on runs. But then about halfway through March winter returned and we had a great end to the season. It’s a bit frustrating at the moment as we’re still getting fresh snow fall but we can’t go out riding on it. It’s all a bit sad that the season’s over, but there is a lot happening over the next few weeks, so it’s good to look forward to it all.
