SO… what AM I waiting for? What was I waiting for? It just hit me this year, somewhere after July when I visited my friend Anne who had just come back from Italy and Europe… WHAT am I waiting for? I only get one life, I want it to be happy, and I want it to have been a full one! Instead of living in fear of the unknown, I can step out, trust that God has a plan, and see the beautiful world I live in! Well, I did it. I applied for a missions trip in Italy, and got it! So I figured, while I am over there, why not travel!?!? Luckily Anne was totally in for the ride. We’ll both be in Italy, and then off to travel the UK. I have all ... read more

Hey everyone, Dan here attemping to write up our lastest journal, Russ left early this morning for his first day as a sparky for a company in Banff and i dont start at Fas Gas (my stunning carrer at a local servo) till 3pm. It has been a while since our last blog mostly due to laziness but also computer trouble with our photos, so now no excuses... So we moved to Canmore about two months ago into a basement suite of a very nice mountain style house in a rather wealthy area, our rent is increadibly cheap but we do share a room which basically has a kitchen along one side, and us one the other. We are enjoying it but makes life difficult if company is staying.. Otherwise we are kinda settled into life ... read more

Living abroad, trips home occur on special occasions, births, wedding, funerals. In the winter of 2005, my Grandmother's condition had become serious and she was moved into a final care facility. I paid her a visit with my Uncle who lived nearby and was checking up one her each day. It was an awkward visit. She lay in her bed talking with us for a few minutes. The nurse and my Uncle agreed this was a good day. Kay was talkative and her mind relatively alert and cohesive considering the morphine. I knelt by the bed and for the first time ever brushed my hand across her head. She looked frail. She'd lost considerable weight. I had in my head several things I wanted to say, memories of her old house in Cedar, Papa, what ... read more

Well, it's now two weeks until I depart for Bangkok and three months of travelling South East Asia. This will mark my third trip to Asia, but my first time backpacking. Thankfully I won't be travelling alone. I'll be heading to Bangkok with Coral, and then late that evening Emily will arrive. Emily has done this sort of thing before, so that should makes things a bit easier. I'd be a little more excited right now if I didn't feel absolutly miserable. The throat specilist check up appointment today confirms that my throat is all better, but now I guess I just have a nasty cold and my stomach has been feeling like crap as well. Oh well, I've got two weeks to get better. I've got most of what I'm taking with me now, just ... read more

The kids and auntie crazy Leane came 1-2-3 in … oh now I’ve forgotten the event. Had a tour of Whistler village (more like a sizable town these days) and a great hike around Lost Lake. Almost no snow and they are in the midst of closing the ski hills early. Took the evening ferry across to Nanaimo. Spent the next day wandering around the downtown area and shoreline. Highlights included lunch on the wharf beside the seaplane port and the art galleries and studios. Drove across Vancouver Island today. Stopped and hiked among the 800 year old Douglas Firs in Cathedral Grove. Arrived at Tofino to gale warnings on the radio. The rain cleared up as we arrived and the winds slowly died down during the afternoon. Sat in a playground this afternoon and talked ... read more

Feels like we’re time travelers. Even though we are more than 500 km north here in Vancouver than we were at home in Ontario it feels like May. Or June. The white snowdrifts up to the windowsills have been replaced by an almost-as-complete covering of yellow daffodils. This west coast climate is not hard to take. Perversely, we seemed to be magnetically drawn to the only snow in the greater Vancouver area the day before yesterday. We found ourselves on the cable car going up Grouse Mountain. Even at the top there were only patches of snow though. Great view of the “Lower Mainland” (gotta get into the local dialect y’know) and the state of Washington beyond. Should have been the state of Columbia. It was called the territory of Columbia until it became a state ... read more

Made it to Big White. Snow is looking awesome to me who hasn't seen it in years but to the boarders it's pretty tragic. However it did snow this afternoon. I'm in pain with bruises everywhere. All good fun. All extreme. All good.... read more

Right now I'm at Big White Ski Resort in BC, Canada. I was lucky enough to get a job here in Central Reservations, where we book accommodation for people coming up here. I get to go riding most days and get paid better than most jobs up here, so I'm pretty happy with it all. There are so many Australians here at the resort, it sometimes feels like I haven't even left home. I've found a really nice apartment with 2 other Aussies and a Brit, so home life is pretty good as well. We even have an outdoor hot tub, I can't wait to use it while it's dumping snow. The season ends here around 10 April, so I'll be hanging around until at least then. After that, I haven't worked out yet, but we'll ... read more
