I've been listening to a new song by Canadian artist Michael Buble called "Home." It is an incredible song, however a section of the lyrics go: "Another winter day has come and gone away, in Paris and Rome but I want to go home" It's a song about homesickness, right before I leave!! Oh well, I still love it. I think I've set a new record. 2 more days and still no packing has been started by moi. d.c.... read more

Hi All So here is the first entry. Alex and I are waiting for our Eurail passes to come, hopefully no more problems on that side of things. The hostels are set, the budget is set. Now just get our papers done and graduate then we are off. Once the Eurail stuff is settled we will post the itinerary. Presently we are doing our research and trying to graduate. We are gone in less than 2 months. Anyhow that is all for this episode. We will post the intineary and more information as we sort the trip out. Sarah and Alex... read more

Sunday,,, I just realized that it's been already three weeks since we las had snow,,,,, and I'm depressed : I don't want to go to the backcountry because of warm temperature these few days,,, I have to work from 5p.m. today,,, So, today is the day for a leisurely cycle ride!! "If you feel depressed" "Go for a hike up a mountain" it's a place that makes you feel Great! "If you feel irritable" "Go near to a waterfront" it's a place that makes you feel calm! Let's go to a waterfront! I decided to go to Bow Falls. From one end of Banff to another, but if you ride on a bicycle, you can get to the Falls in about twenty minutes at a leisurely pace. 14th Feb, St, Valentine's Day. At last, eventually, the New gondola has been completed at Lake Louise. I really wanted to take a ride on that, but I've missed out. Finally, I went there to take a ride on it and enjoy the views. Recently, there are big crowds of people, more than the New Year's holiday. But the completion of the Gondola makes it half the rush. It's named "Grizzly Express" and it takes 6people. Before the gondola was completed, to get to 'Larch Area' was a little bit of a long journey. We had to take two lifts. But Now, the gondola can take us to the top at once, so we can get to 'Larch Area' easily. This new addition to the ski hill which makes a real defference and has a great ... read more

Thousands of hours of research and planning has come down to the last few days. Here's big tip number one for any other families planning on taking an extended international backpacking trip: Talk to someone who has already done it. Kathryn Young, Bill Davies and family of Kanata, Ontario were the friends of friends who were our experts. They answered all our questions and even gave us their packing list! You can read all the travel books you want (and we have) but there really is nothing better than having the revised packing list from a family who has already experienced it (with 3 kids for 8 months). Knowing what not to bring is at least as important as knowing what to bring. Of course the backpacking law of everyone having to carry all their own ... read more

On the 3rd day, after we had breakfast with Yehia(my team mate from EWB) and his girlfriend; we took a train ride (Via Rail) to Ottawa around 10 am. The train ride was awesome and that would be our first official train ride as couple. The scenery was a spectacle! White snow covering the field of green and trees, couple of houses complimenting the scenery. The first few minutes of the ride, in the island of montreal, you could see the magnificent view, a moment you won't forget. Our eyes and heads move from left to right, not wanting to miss any wonderful spots......but wait, Goodbye Montreal..........Ottawa here we come! We reached the Ottawa station and took a taxi ride to Hotel Sofitel. We chose that hotel since it would be a walking distance to the ... read more
