I hope everyone is well back in Aussie. Pity about the freezing conditions plaguing many parts of Tasmania. It's a real tragedy that Moira and I are missing all of that! We finally experienced some absolute scorchers here, mainly when we revisited Merritt in the interior. 35 degrees plus, we could do nothing but find some shade and consume some nice cold Smirnoffs by the cart. Jeez, this is a tough life we lead. Thats enough of making you all jealous. I hope you still continue to read about our adventures. It must be entertaining a few of you, particularly the last one re. Calgary and its famous traffic. I have been told that it is sometimes confusing when a different author bobs up so I have decided that my type will be standard like this, ... read more

So we've left Banff far behind us thanks to Hollie and Keeley and their trusty car Emma. We only had a few wrong turns before leaving the Bow Valley. The road between Banff and Jasper is with out a doubt the most picturesque road I've ever driven on. There was lake after beautiful lake and mountain after amazing mountain. We stopped so many times to take pictures that it took about 6hours to drive the 3hr high way. I'll put so pictures on but they only give a glimpse of what a beautiful place this is. Yesterday was a day for sightseeing. We meet up with Hollie and Keeley again and two other peeps from Banff, Andy and Zoe and headed to Milene Canyon and lake. It was stunning. WE had a nice walk along the ... read more

So, We had no trouble finding the Folklore crew packing up their camp near Kamloops. I got to sit in the blistering sun for half an hour or so while everyone got ready for the drive to Alberta. We passed through Jasper around 9pm. (I'm still getting used to there being light outside past 7pm). I saw Mt. Robson for the first time, and we passed about 10 elk on different parts of the road. Six were just hanging out across from hotels in Jasper. Around 1 or 2am, we arrived at our campsite. Northern lights were flicking white across the clear blue black. Right now I'm in Edson, maybe three hours north west of Edmonton. Me, Sharon and Brian are camping about half an hour outside of town. Everyone but me is enjoying a much ... read more

So Kate and I are finally leaving....in about half an hour actually so this will be quick. The last week in Banff has been great. We finnished up at Sunshine on Monday. Went up to watch the slush cup which was classic. Some great costumes and huge splashes. Then after all the punter went home we got to party. Sunshine put on a great night, we had a pig on the spit for dinner, it was so good. Spent Tuesday recovering then on Wednesday we went white water rafting on the Kiking Horse river. It was so much fun. Unfortunatly the river wasn't running very high, but was still managed to get wet from head to foot and get stuck on a rock. One of the highlights of this day was we saw a black bear ... read more

So, the past two days have been rather exciting. After calling about seventy B.C. tree planting companies, I finally found myself a job. I'll get a ride with a Folklore Contracting crew today, up to their next gig near Red Earth, Alberta. I'm ready for what might be the toughest job I've ever had. Having been a rather lazy traveller for the last three months, it feels good to be on the road towards some well-earned dough. Why plant trees? Mostly because of the people I've known who have enjoyed planting. The couple who owned the farm I worked on last summer paid for it with tree planting money. Every summer for eight or nine, years, they made the journey from the Saguenay to the B.C. coast, because the made good money, and because they loved ... read more

So last week I saw bears 5 times in 5days, once a lone Black bear, another time a lone grizzly, and the rest of the time it was mama Grizzly and her two cubs... such amazing animals, and pretty chilled out compared to all the nasty stories I'd heard, they didn't even seem to mind when me and Wade were this close to them - sooo cool! there are people who've lived here for 5 years and havn't seen a bear once so we're pretty lucky. Since my last blog I've just pretty much been working and partying, and syching myself back up for the semi-retired life... it was a long weekend last weekend so me, Kim, Paul and Jake went on a roady up to Jasper. was great to get out and about, I havn't ... read more
