Yep, this is the last 10 days here before ... read more

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!! Or Bonne année in French My 2006 ended with an unexpected road trip to Montreal for the weekend with god-sibling Michelle and her non-identical twin Heather (or Head, as we call her), two of the most messed up girls I've ever met. Not a minute went by that I did not fear for my life and I was subject to their anti-Australian taunts and constant barrage of insults. Head's at least 7 foot and her mini-me Michelle, although barely 4'10", is a little violent pocket rocket. I resigned to sitting in the back seat - at least I could see where the punches came from. We left Toronto around 2:30pm on Friday arvo and it wasn't long before we hit traffic. I learnt a new word - rubbernecking: the act of slowing down ... read more

I awoke to the realization that this is my last day of work in Canada for quite some time... this in itself has made this my favourite work day to date! Today my cubicle felt more spacious...the sounds of photocopiers and printers where like music to my ears...and the dust coming off the 30 year old client files spread around my desk, was like that of a warm ocean mist. In less then one weeks time i will be on a flight out of this great city, onto destinations I have been looking forward to seeing for many many years. My first stop will be Hong Kong, then New Zealand to work and party down, after which comes Australia and then who knows?! Since there is little else to report at this time I will end ... read more

MERRY CHRISTMAS FRIENDS AND FAMILY!!!!! Well Christmas has come and gone and I can't say that i'm too sad to see it go. Christmas at home is one of my favourite times of year but being away from all the usual holiday events can really get you down. Plus everyone else was away from home so there were some pretty long faces out here i'll tell ya. I would have much rather been there for the open house at my place drinking and laughing with all the friends and family. And on Christmas eve at uncle mike and aunt donnas watching uncle mike and dad tease becky and nanny. Most of all I wish I was there for the big family dinner on Christmas day. Eating turkey and meatballs (that is if aunt cheryls bunch didn't ... read more

Escape From Edmonton Edmonton "Maul" + Boxing Day Sales = Bad Idea! We really would have loved to spend a day at the water park and it might have been a good idea too in hindsight as we had quite a time trying to locate accomodation in Jasper! But the trick with the waterpark is that it has an early bird special that is more a "mid-day" special ideally engineered to force families to spend an extra night in Edmonton to get great value. If you rock up between 12noon and 4pm it's only $11...before or after that time entry is nearly $40...big difference! So we cut our losses and scarpered...next stop Jasper. Never use cruise control in cold environments! Driving to Jasper from Edmonton is very uneventful. Wayne got a bit of a shock when ... read more

As the semester wound down and people began to relax after the stress of exams it soon became clear as reality set in that most of us would be saying goodbye to each other. So for a few days we all did our best to ignore the inevitable and have fun (read drinking) before having to say our farewells. I was definitely lucky to have had such an amazing group of friends over the first semester here at Mcgill University in Montreal. It was with a certain amount of relief then that Jacqui and I were on our own and getting away from Montreal. We were off to Nova Scotia to visit one of her friends, Halina. We left on the train at about 18:30 on what would prove to be a pretty long journey. The ... read more

I would have thought that driving to West Edmonton Mall...that the Destination would be the predominant subject of this blog...but it was the journey! We had heard about a massive weather storm moving up through the states and it was hot on our heels. The Plan The basic schedule of events for the day was to simply drive up to Edmonton via Calgary (to pick up a new GPS unit) and hopefully get to Edmonton by about 2pm so Lauren could have some quality waterpark time. The Reality We woke up to a fresh dump of powder snow in Kananaskis. Fortunately, it only made things look pretty and didn't affect driving traction at all...so it was pretty much full speed ahead into Calgary. We used Wayne's GPS to drive TomTom so that we could find GPS ... read more

The snow has come back again, unfortunately so have all the people here at Panorama. If you can get through the initial lines the rest of the hill is fantastic. the skiing was truly phenomenal so I have added in a few pictures and a video of Troy. Returning in for lunch to another Canadian Junior win was another great gift. The end of a great ski day here and the people milling around outside of this internet cafe look like 100's of exhausted, partially melted snowmen. The children spend most of their time plopping in large puddles in the snowbank leaving behind a herald of angels. The parents of course don't find it all so amusing and you can sense the exhaustion in their faces and in their stride. Holidays and snow have paved a ... read more
