The snow has come back again, unfortunately so have all the people here at Panorama. If you can get through the initial lines the rest of the hill is fantastic. the skiing was truly phenomenal so I have added in a few pictures and a video of Troy. Returning in for lunch to another Canadian Junior win was another great gift. The end of a great ski day here and the people milling around outside of this internet cafe look like 100's of exhausted, partially melted snowmen. The children spend most of their time plopping in large puddles in the snowbank leaving behind a herald of angels. The parents of course don't find it all so amusing and you can sense the exhaustion in their faces and in their stride. Holidays and snow have paved a ... read more

It's the wee hours of Boxing Day morning and Rob still isn't yet home from his last night out in the Horse. I've got packing left and our ETD of 4am is in two hours. We spent our last days signing off to the north with various Christmas normalities as well as the Third Annual Marsh Lake Polar Dip (courtesy of Craigens on the Lake) and a main street snowshoe streaking. Hopefully things liven up as we head south... but first east.... read more

This blog is mostly about selfish me! I have been 3 & 1/2 days without food and with very minute amounts of clear fluid. The diagnosis, after those three days of prodding and poking in two hospitals by numerous medical personel is that I have a 4 mm kidney stone that is yet to release itself. Complicating this is a bowel ileus (paralysis of a section of the bowel that does not allow peristalis to move the food and liquids and results in build up of gas distending the stomach) causing as much pain as the kidney stone itself. Of course I'm feeling very sorry for myself. There is little that can be done to hasten the process of returning to normal. The bowel obstruction prevents taking fluids and food. On Saturday and Sunday I spent ... read more

Hi All, It sounds like you are all at Grandma's now. Glad you are enjoying our escapades. We are having a wonderful time. The beginning of the World junior Hockey Championships has changed the priorities here. Fortunately the Canadians won and everyone could return to the slopes happy. Not a picture was taken today so I can’t share anything too exciting. Quiet recovery day just the way a boxing day should be. I am putting in some pictures from our Christmas day supper as that day is already full. The restaurant was lovely but nothing like a home cooked meal at Christmas. ... read more

Hey everybody Well 5 Days and counting. Getting excited and scared all at the same time. Wondering if we will have enough money, or just hoping nothing bad happens while we're gone. Its all in our minds somewhere amist gory stories of Crocs, Sharks, Jellies, Spiders, Snakes, Plane Crashes and warring Fiji. Although there is a lot on our minds right now, remember that we will miss each one of you and I'm sure that 3 months will just fly by. Like the numbers in my bank account I would presume. I hope everyone has had a great christmas, best wishes in the new year if we don't talk to you before we leave. We hope to hear from all of you, whether it be messages on the travelblog, or emails. Anyways, I hope the holidays ... read more

Our White Christmas has finally arrived! And almost as if I had my finger on a remote control...snow would start to softly fall each time we looked outside. It was very fairytale like...surreal almost! The Delta Lodge laid it on like nothing I've ever experienced before; not one but two massive banquets through the day, a Santa stocking was hanging from every hotel room doorknob in the morning, Santa made an appearance (apparently)...Lauren had no wish to go down and meet him in person in the lobby. There was face painting, a clown making the most amazing balloon creations and festive music and cheer in massive overdoses for all. Walking off brunch After a hefty brunch helping, we decided that we needed to exercise some of those calories off...so we went geocaching! We found ourselves at ... read more

Hello Everyone! I've finally gotten settled here in Helsinki so I will start posting all my pictures and notes. Feel free to read as much or as little as you want... you can even just look at the pictures if you'd like. I'll try to keep in touch with everyone, but there's much to see here and I may not be able to write to everyone individually. I started my journey by travelling home to Kakabeka for Christmas. It was a short visit, but I got to see (almost) everyone. Arrived on the 21st and stayed till the 26th. Unfortunately did not see much snow as climate change seems to be having a big effect on Canada this year. Christmas Eve was at Grandma and Grandpa Glenn's as usual for the traditional talent show and roast ... read more

Christmas morning started at 7 am. Plenty of presents for everyone was loads of fun. Vince’s new skis were itching to get on the hill and Kelvin was happy to oblige after a day off and new snow. Many Star Wars and WII games kept Troy home for a bit. Kurtis was busy playing with his new phone. Troy, Kurtis and I followed later but a bruise on my shin slowed me down too much to ski with everyone. Slow day for me was nice and quiet. A trek by the hot tub and we are all spending a lazy evening waiting for our supper reservations. Glad to hear that all is well at home at Christmas. I am sure your turkey is just coming out of the oven, potatoes are being mashed and perogies are ... read more

It's about 5 hours until we'll start heading to the airport. I am a giant bundle of nerves. I feel completely wired, like I did the one time I drank coffee :) I feel really anxious about the first few days that lie ahead. I expect them to be long, tiring, overwhelming and overstimulating. Already I'm just looking forward to a few days from now, when I'm unpacked, settled and mostly understand what's going on. I just want to enjoy my job and explore the ports already! People keep asking me if I'm excited. I am. I think that's a bit of a given. But I don't think I'll be able to completely embrace that excitement until the unknown elements are taken care of, until I'm passed this nervous stage. *deep breath* Okay. So that's it. ... read more
