A White Christmas... Christmas was definitley a different experience being away from home. Martha's family invited me to come with them for the traditional tree hunt so I could experience all the winter Christmas traditions. So Mum, Dad, Daughter, Dog, Gramma and token Australian went hiking into the forest out of Canmore to find the perfect, well rounded tree. Then it was a matter of cutting it down and Martha and I dragging it back to the car to tie on the roof. Really was great fun but strange Martha who has no christmas spirit didnt want to decorate the tree, which I always thought was the best bit, so we left that to her parents. We also got a tree for the apartment - Bruce the Spruce - who we decorated nicely complete with ... read more

After receiving half a foot of snow in Manitoba, My mom and I are very excited to get to Argentina. Although we are dreading the 20 hours of travel time between Winnipeg and Buenos Aires, the warm air at the end will be enough of a reward. For now, we're busy taking down Christmas trees, organizing bill payments, and making lists. Well, Wendy is making lists, and I'm trying to do what they say. We hope to keep this page fairly updated, and are excited to hear comments from everyone. So keep checking, and keep in touch!! Happy New Year! ... read more

It's the morning of departure but I'm feeling so, so torn. RD and I have nothing planned, as of right now the uncle we'll be staying with doesn't even know when we're arriving. This is the mother of all disorganized trips, don't think I've travelled this randomly before. It's nice but there is a certain amount of discomfort that comes with this "not-knowing." Anywho, I'm sure things will be fine once I'm on my way. Not as excited about going to KL as I thought I'd be but like I said, once RD and I meet up and we're at the airport...excitement overload I'm sure! Right now, I'm just dreading all the goodbyes to be said. Love being on the road but it's getting more difficult to leave each time. ... read more

... read more

Today our goal was to find a helicopter and take a tour of the Rockies in it. We had a brochure and a phone number. But they weren’t answering - or were incredibly busy. So we drove. Valemount is back in British Columbia and the base of Mount Robson Helitours. It took us a while to find their operation, but it was in the obvious place right where there are two large helicopter company signs (neither which say Mount Robson Helitours). So we went in and the place was shut up tight with a few cars around and no-one in sight. Oh well… From our last tour through here, we met a guy called Mike Wiegele who ran a heli-skiing outfit and I had also seen what he’d done with the place since on a recent ... read more

So I'm writing this entry over a year later, but I wanted to start the blog by cataloging past travels before I embark on new ones, so these first few back-dated entries will just provide the "set-up" so to speak. Montreal is, in my opinion, my first real "out-of-country" experience. I was too young to remember Cozumel, Mexico, and the Bahamas was part of a cruise where we stayed on the beach during our time on the islands. But Montreal was an experience! Things I will always remember are: * First night being Christmas Eve, so most food places were closed * Trying to capture the snow with a digital camera and getting some pretty sweet shots * Jason eating some wild animal in the tiny restaurant that gave us a better-than official exchange rate because ... read more

So I checked my schedule yesterday and found that I am not only working on new years eve and new years day but i'm also doing the 6pm - 2:30am shift. I have worked every holiday possible since i've been out here. So new years is pretty much going to suck there's no positive spin on this one. The only thing that brings me a little joy is that a ton of banquet servers and dishwashers will be suffering right beside me hahaha yes apparently misery does love company. Anyways lately all i've been doing is snowboarding so I don't have too much to say. I've been four days in a row so i'm quite sore and i've caught the cold that has been going around so today I plan to get into my bed and ... read more
