We got up and lazed around the house in the morning before collecting Megan from college. Then we met up with Ashleigh and headed out for some lunch. In the afternoon we drove out to Wolfville (the valley!). We headed to Megan's parents house and then to the a place called the look off, which is up a high hill with great views of the town below. The views are absolutely stunning at this time of year with the leaves changing colour. In the evening we headed out for some drinks in Megan's local watering hole, Paddy's pub which served some funny tasting beers from its own micro brewery! ... read more

We had plans to be on the road before 9am for the 14 hour drive but failed miserably and ended up leaving at around 10.45. It was Norman the Nissan's 1st big run out so we were a little apprehensive but he trundled through and made it with no problems. The I95 is a very long road and we headed back up north through Norman's home, Maine! We had been told many stories over the summer about northern maine and what it was like so were pretty excited to see what it was like. Driving up you didn't see cars anywhere! Just before the boarder crossing to Canada we past a big truck with a trailer. As we came closer we saw people standing around the trailer and then we noticed that the hunters had shot ... read more

So as Penny had hurt her left calf whilst at Nelson & Karens place she could not go travelling to Sth America; India & Africa. It was almost 3 weeks were she could not walk so therefore there was no way that she could carry her backpack & go trekking around the world. So as an alternative, we bought a Ford Explorer 4WD and decided to drive to the east coast of Canada then out to the west where we will finally settle down in Vancouver. So on the 25th August we drove from Toronto where Scotts parents live to Montreal where his Teta Fanny & Uncle Johnny live. Teta by the way means Aunty in Slovenian. So we stayed one night, we really enjoyed our stay, it is always nice spending time with family members ... read more

Im heading North. Away from the knowns of Victoria. Away from friends, away from an amazing Longboarded-experience in Ottawa. Away from an amazing team of people in Nova Scotia, who now mostly all call themselves Katimavik Project Leaders. Im heading North. Today, to Baie-Comeau, tomorrow to Labrador City, and Wednesday to Happy Valley-Goose Bay, my new home. And, Im incredibly excited. Im excited for the gifts I have to share with my particpants. Im excited for the friends I have and will make up there. Im excited for the wilderness, the streams, and the Sub-Arctic Atlantic Ocean. This is a new place, with new people, and it will be my home for 10 months. I await for the difference of culture Ill experience. For the wilderness, the unscarred and unscathed landscapes, the mountains, the moose, dear, ... read more

I'm scribbling some notes on the past few days in the early morning hours as I wait for the sun to heat things up and dry out my tent here at Five Islands park. I left Bryan a few days ago in Bouctouche NB then I continued on to Moncton. It was great to have company for the week, but also I enjoy riding alone, so that I may go at my own pace and not feel guilty about stopping at a chip truck in front of one of the fittest 55yr olds i've ever met. I wish Bryan all the best as he ventures now around PEI and probably has about 2 weeks before finally ending his journey at Cape Spear (most eastern point). Two nights ago I enjoyed the hospitality of Sophie in Moncton. ... read more

Hello New Brunswick. The land that seperates me from Nova Scotia. Rest day yesterday was fantastic, I watched the television and got caught up on current events. Turns out hurricane Bill aint touching us. In fact its is sunny here and I can here the gentle swooshing of the ocean from where set up camp. Last night I cooked up a gourmet salmon and rice dinner on the naptha stove outside the motel, and for tonight i will have beans and... marshmellows! I'm finally going to make a campfire for once, as we arrived early today and had time to relax as opposed to rushing to set up camp then straight to bed. The ride this morning was pretty amazing. It looked more like the west than the east. The first 60km was almost all downhill ... read more

Unfortunately, our movie experience was a bust. At 9:30 Kristen and I were the only two on deck, lying beneath large towels on lawn chairs as a fog swirled along the deck. We began watching Eagle Eye on the jumbo screen. Slowly, more people began to join us. The fog horn, which had been blowing all day, was only a minor nuisance through the first half of the movie. However, at around 10:30 the volume suddenly increased dramatically, shaking people with heart-racing fear and stinging the eardrums. By 10:45 we had had enough and retreated to the club areas of the ship to watch an “R-Rated Adult Humor” show (Marvin Bell). It was entertaining, but for someone who watches a lot of stand-up comedy, few jokes trekked into unfamiliar territory. The next morning we crawled out ... read more

August 1, Saturday On to Maine, and hurrah, I've ridden on two wheels in 48 states. When we pulled into the visitor center to get maps and another hotel discount book, we found that the "Cat", the ferry from Portland to Halifax Nova Scotia, cost about $330 for the two of us and Bear. From Bar Harbor it would still cost over $237. Ouch. We decided to make a run from St. Johns New Brunswick to Digby NS instead, which only cost a little over $150. This was another rainy off and on day, so we stopped for the night in Belfast ME at another hotel. Boo. August 2, Sunday From Belfast, we explored Bar Harbor, which was okay, but not as good as the hype I've been given, then we continued on the border at ... read more

Hello Everyone! It has been awhile since I have written, however I am now home in New Brunswick. I was expecting to be in Kenya until September, but with a persisting cough brought on by viral asthma, I have come home alittle early to get better and figure out my next adventure. Thank you for reading my blogs, I have thoroughly enjoyed your feedback. I hope in some way I have shed some light on issues that often go unseen. I won't be using this blog site anymore so if you want to contact me you can reach me at my usual address- ecdrk@mta.ca Take care, Emily... read more
