Hopefully I'll be starting my Trans Can bicycle ride Monday. Change in the start though as the ferry from Bar Harbor isn't running until the 30th! Instead, cycling up rt 1 along the Maine coast to St John New Brunswick. Should take 2 or 3 days. From St John I'll take the ferry to Digby Nova Scotia and then bike along the bay of Fundy and then to Pictou. Another ferry ride from Pictou to Prince Edward Island. ... read more

Hello from New Brunswick, Canada, There are many more leaves here than people. We had a grand time at Fundy Natl. Park. We visited the Hopewell Rocks yesterday at high tide. The sandy beach and rocks get completely covered when the tide comes in the Bay of Fundy. It can vary by 42' if conditions are right. We were one of four RVs in the campground which was on a lovely pond. I was sure that we would see a moose at dusk or dawn...nope. We spent most of the day in the park where there are many hiking trails. We even saw moose hoof prints, but alas, no moose. It was a beautiful trail through spruce woods, birch forests, and maple trees. Again, we were the only ones on the trail. Stopped at Wolf Lake ... read more

Hello from Canada, We said a fond farewell to Bar Harbor & Acadia, but made a spontaneous stop at a local birdhouse artist. We could have purchased any house we wanted on the honor system. But, Bob the artist and a native of the area, wanted to talk. He could tell a story about each and every birdhouse, where the materials had been salvaged from, and his mother's collections. He was a single parent and had to make a living on Mt. Desert Island and care for his son. He restores antique furniture and builds very unique birdhouses. Guess what we are bringing home in the motorhome! A quick stop at the L.L. Bean Outlet store helped us obtain a comforter and wool socks as the temp is getting cooler. Big decision: north or south? North ... read more

I'll use this as a first entry since I want to try this out before my trip to South America. This entry will be pretty short, but I'll upload a pile of pictures. In September 2007 Ann and I and the kids (Jacqueline, Jasmine & Mikaela) and our friend Wendy enjoyed a fun-filled trip out east. We camped in some super-cool spots (Hole In the Wall, NB being the best), saw some fantastic sites (Hopewell Rocks, Cabot Trail) and managed to attend the wedding of our friends Eric & Heather in Dalvay, PEI (which was actually the initial incentive for the trip). It was 3 weeks of sheer chaos travelling with 3 little kids, but thanks to our friend Wendy at least we had a 1-1 ratio of adults to kids. We survived and actually had ... read more

From Annie: Hi again , y'all! Thank you for your comments, Chris, Sarah, Linda and Verne (and Grammy).... Your comments are always appreciated. Well, in the meantime, we've grieved Timber and recovered. What helped us most was a dream that Greg had several days ago. He met Timber in a sunny field. Timber communicated with Greg telepathically. Timber told Greg that he was sorry for being aggressive toward him, but that things happened the way they had to. He was never going to give Greg control over him (or anyone else, for that matter). But he is happy where he is now. He was happy and grateful that we got him out of the kennel and made his last days here on earth so nice for him, giving him so much love and attention. He thanked ... read more

20Aug07 - St. Andrews - Arrived at the border around noon in Calais. It took 45 minutes to cross the bridge back into Canada and another 20 minutes to pay my duties for all the stuff I brought back. Rode a short distance to St Andrews. I've been out of the country for 12 weeks!... read more

From Annie: Hi, y'all. How are you, we missed you. Don't know why the blogsite was down. Some hacker, apparently. Well, here we are again. It's good to be back. We've been busy with so many things. Unpacking the essentials, some higgledy-piggedly furniture, especially our two rocking chairs. One from Grama in Duncan, for when Joey was born, and one from Jeanette and Steve (God love them), what a great rocking chair that is. Have I written all this before? I can't recall, maybe it's deja vu. In any case those rocking chairs are worth mentioning again. We also bought some outside fold-up chairs, which have somehow migrated from the porch into the living room. There's one you can put your feet up, which is our neighbours' favorite. His name is Don, and is the ... read more

"Think of the long trip home. Should we have stayed at home and thought of here? Where should we be today? Is it right to be watching strangers in a play in this strangest of theatres? What childishness is it that while there’s a breath of life In our bodies, we are determined to rush to see the sun the other way around?" - Questions of Travel, Elizabeth Bishop There’s a series of moments in traveling, periodic enlightenment, aha moments per say, and I live for them. They aren’t fancy, or always overwhelming. They’re usually quiet and unnoticed. My eyes grow wide, and I feel wild and childish, like a little girl who’s just seen the ice cream truck. New York New York (beautiful-hot-addictive) New York, what do I love about New York. The grass, thick, ... read more
