After spending a night in Moncton, we headed off towards St John. Along the way, we returned to the Bay of Fundy and Hopewell Rocks to check out the height of the water on the rising tide. After hanging around for a couple of hours, we thought that looking a dirty water was not as spectacular as we would have hoped. Upon arrival to St John we were met by our host, Debbie who informed us of a monthly art gallery tour, that was being held that night. We went along and enjoyed complimentary beer and wine while we appreciating some of the art. We just hung out with Debbie for the rest of the night which was fantastic. In the morning Debbie took us for a quick tour around town. St John has a fantastic ... read more

After a relatively early morning (9.00am Ha Ha) we set off for Fredericton, the Capital of New Brunswick. New Brunswick has a number of tourist routes including the River Valley drive. It was full of the yellow, red and green leaves that made up the fall colours. Along the way we stopped in at the town of Grand Falls in which the centrepiece of downtown are the falls themselves. In our travels the falls are usually a little way out of town, so this was a touch unusual. WE eventually arrived out our host’s place for the night. Dom and a very pregnant Nancy were lovely people and Dom gave us a brief night tour of downtown Fredericton. It was very quiet at night, but the nice old buildings under the lights created a charming atmosphere. ... read more

Friday, September 19 Our room faced to the east, therefore, we watched the sun come up without having to go out into the cool air. I went for a walk up to the top of the cliffs and along the scenic trail. Breakfast at the Cape was delicious. After breakfast Darcy drove us up the hill to the parking lot - he had to get a running start to make it up and around the first curve. When we got to the top, I could not find my carkeys. They were in the ignition, which was okay, since Mother had her keys. But the last thing I had done the day before was to turn on the truck to roll up the passenger window. I had left the truck accessory feature turned on all night and ... read more

Our ferry didn't depart from Digby until 1:30 pm so we had quite a bit of time to kill before then. The first thing we did was go to the ferry dock and get reservations for the afternoon ferry. They told us that we could come back later and pick up our tickets and then wait in line at around noon or so. We decided to explore the islands a bit and also try to find the basalt cliffs and balancing rock. We drove south through Digby neck, crossed by ferry to Long Island and traveled to the opposite side of the island and crossed another ferry at Brier Island. We drove around for a while but the little towns along here were pretty run down and there didn't appear to be too much to do. ... read more

When we left Quebec we were headed to Fundy Nat'l Park in New Brunswick. At Hartland we took a detour to see the longest covered Bridge at 1,282 ft long. We took a few pictures, but it was being worked on so it was closed. We passed a few more covered bridges on the way to Woodstock, where we decided to camp for the night. When we woke, we were over looking a nice river right by an old bridge....the kids took some time inthe morning to play at the park and pick so wild apples. After breakfast we drove on to Saint John, New Brunswick's biggest city at the mouth of the Saint John River. There we saw the Reversing Falls Rapids.....but we weren't there at the best time so - it only kinda' looked ... read more

We woke up this morning to this..... It was overcast this morning that was part of the reason the sunrise was so beautiful. This is a really beautiful place. We got up and had a light breakfast downstairs and asked the owner about Fundy Trail. The trailhead is at St. Martins and I had been reading about it in one of the guide books. He said it was well worth visiting so that is our goal this morning. We packed up and headed first for St. John. St John is the largest city in the province with about half a million people. The only reason we stopped there was because you drive right through the middle of it. I'm glad we did. Arriving in St. John we stopped downtown at a Tim Hortons (a Starbucks by ... read more

We woke up at about 7:00 and after getting dressed went downstairs to grab coffee before breakfast was served at 8. Met some of the same people from last night as well as a couple who are eating with us and then going bird watching. They hired a guide and they will be heading off into the wilderness. The guide arrived while we were having breakfast and was an interesting guy. Our host and hostess were very hospitable. I would go back to this place in a heartbeat. Breakfast was delicious. Fresh fruit, blueberry muffins (blueberries are abundant in Maine, you see roadside stands everywhere), a baked egg and Canadian bacon casserole with salsa in the center. It was really good! Lots of juice, coffee and good conversation. We took some pictures and then packed up ... read more

Yaahhh...we finally have a good internet connection again. Ok, so we will never, never whine about hot weather again! We have been in Canada for a couple of weeks and have seen the sun about twice during that time. During that time we have arrived at two great realizations;1) Hot weather is better than rainy weather and 2) we will not live in a northern climate again if we can help it...oh, and 3) Greyhound sucks big time...they still have no clue what happened to our suitcase full of gifts that we shipped across the country ahead of us before we took off and apparently couldn't care less. Anyway, I think I am starting to whine again so I will shift back to the trip. We left Quebec a week ago and rode through off and ... read more

It was a bittersweet departure from Richibucto, Mélanie had to say "see you later" to Mame pis Pape. Even if it was hard, we knew we had the trip of a lifetime right ahead of us! We had a pretty darn full car and plugged in our first stop - le Rocher Percé - on our handy GPS. Not even an hour into the trip we already saw our first critter, a nice big bull moose! Nigel is always looking for them and finally got to see another one . Pretty soon after we saw a beautiful Doe drinking. At this point we had a feeling that we would see lots of animals on our trip. When trying to cross the St-Laurence river to get in to Quebec, the GPS tried to get us to take ... read more

Hi All!!! A great time!!! Nova Scotia and PEI, and yes a few miles on the Cabot trail with the famous PEI red dirt. And oh the potatoes!!! Got the shuttle across the Confederation bridge, 12.9 kms long. Unfortunately is was raining and foggy!!! For the most part I've been following the Acadian trail up the coast of NB. It's like being in France, rare to hear English in the campgrounds! My plan at this point is to cross into Quebec and take Rt 132 across the Gaspe Penninsula to the St Lawrence. Supposed to rain tomorrow though, so maybe I'll hangout in Campbellton and see if I can add some photos to this blog. So far the travelling has been great, the people have been great, and the black flies so so, lots of DEET!) ... read more
