Three and a half days until I leave home for a year. I am definetly starting to feel anxious... and extremely nervous. I've never even lived on my own before, let alone in another country by myself. But I feel like I need to take a big step like this in my life. The past year was good because I worked, grew up a little, and made some new friends, but really, I didn't get anything accomplished. I don't plan on going to school any time soon. And I hate Kelowna... So, why not travel? I like travelling. And I feel like I need a little adventure in my life. This will definetly be more than just a little adventure... On May 11th I'll be boarding a plane for Belgium, where I will spend about 2 ... read more

Well it has been while since a proper update of this blog and so much as happened. Let hope I can remember most of it. Firstly, I finally got to go to a hockey game. I got to go on big whites tab as I was employee of the month (in tickets) and as such got to go to my first hockey game in a box with a buffet and never ending drinks. Finally learnt most of the rules and had a really good time. The Kelowna Rockets got up 3 - 1 on the Chilliwack Bruins (whats a bruin?). Finally seei.ng a live game first hand you realise what a quick and intense game hockey is, and this is just the WHL (Western Hockey League). Cant wait to see what a Canucks game is like. ... read more

Well we finally heard from the travel agent and apparently our passports as well as the visa's for Vietnam have arrived back. We depart on Feb 23 and our first stop will be in Hong Kong where we will overnight before flying to HCMC. Itinerary is land in HCMC and drive to Can Tho then HCMC, Phan Thiet, Hue, Sapa, Hanoi and then back home. It will be nice to warm up a little in the south as its been a long snowy winter here... another decent dump of snow last night and of course the Bobcat is once again sitting dead at the foot of the driveway. If the weather gods are with us we may even get to play a round of golf in Phan Thiet. Probably won't be anoth entry here until we ... read more

Hey to Canada! Leaving London was a special moment; mixed with delights and then the emotions of hesitation! I left Tooting with a special gift; i was given a taxi by Paty and Luke (flatmates of 18 months), who had refused to let me do my last venture on the tube and national express bus from Victoria to Gatwick airport. Nerves had arisen as i met my friend, jodes at the airport, awaiting yet another epic. I left London on one of my life's biggest highs. Thinking back on the day i rocked into Heathrow from Kenya.... that feels so long ago! In that crazy place called the UK, I had made some beautiful memories and the most memorable friends. My crazy life has become the beginnings of Canada. This new adventure started with a 2 ... read more

I'm sitting here with a mug of hot chocolate trying to recall the significant events of the past few weeks, there are many: We experienced the first of the champagne powder snow, had another couple of Christmas parties and secret santa's, saw the mountain suddenly turn to full capacity, took another trip into town, and joined in the whole Christmas Eve, Christmas, and Boxing day festivities, followed by New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day. I'll start with the snow. I think we have tasted the best champagne powder that goes beyond our expectations, so much so that we are beginning to get spolit and fussy with our opinions on the snow conditions. We had a near blue bird day today with a nice coating of powder and we rode all day, mostly through the trees ... read more

It's been a while since we last posted, possibly due to not having much to write about. We've both been working full-time hours since the resort opened. Today was the second of our two consecutive days off and we spent it by taking a trip into Kelowna to buy Daniel's snowboard and bindings. After searching most of Kelowna (slight exaggeration, but only slight), we found the exact board he was after - Burton Custom Wide 167cm. Then we had lunch and walked over to the Super Store to spend our $25 gift voucher (which wasn't even enough to buy two blocks of cheese). On the topic of cheese, there is half a refrigeration isle in the super store devoted to this fake orange cheese that Canadians seem to love (not to mention the liquid stuff!), and ... read more

Started the day chatting to family, then we headed off to central reservations. Today was my first day of skiing lessons. Claire came with me to point me in the right direction as I'd never even had a pair of ski boots on my feet before. To start I had to fill out a hire form, they wanted to know all my vital statistics, the cheek of it, I soon realised it as for a good reason. Claire contiuned to hold my hand every step of the way, which I was very grateful of, she also took the opportunity to play David Bailey with my camera. I had my feet measured, ski boots selected, now I just had to put them on!!! not quite so easy, but I got there. OMG they were heavy and I ... read more

Had a much better nights sleep, going to bed earlier must have helped, although poor Claire was up again at 5.30am! After chats with our families at home we set off to sort out our season tickets, which was surprisingly easy. We both had our photos taken for the ID cards and both were horrified to see we looked like cheeky chipmonks. Now armed with ID we went and booked a skiing lesson for me (Claire doesn't need lessons, she's got 10 years of experience behind her). I was so excited - lets hope I still feel the same after a days tuition. Back into the car for the drive to Kelowna, the views were spectacular we even saw a coyote, sadly I wasn't quick enough with the camera to get a photo. Now, I have ... read more

What a day... It started with a power cut! At first we thought it was just Mike and Claires' house, but Oh no, it was the whole of Big White - after many calls (none answered) we finally got through to a very kind man who explained that a lorry had hit the electricity pylon which had cause the whole of Big Whites power to fail and it would take 6 hours to repair. Not one to miss out on a shopping trip I checked that we were able to get into Kelowna, and Yes we could we only had to make a short detour (that should be fun considering our fuel gauge read LOW FUEL). Any how, we got ready and off we set to town - Claire's getting good at this driving lark. We ... read more
