Had a much better nights sleep, going to bed earlier must have helped, although poor Claire was up again at 5.30am!
After chats with our families at home we set off to sort out our season tickets, which was surprisingly easy. We both had our photos taken for the ID cards and both were horrified to see we looked like cheeky chipmonks. Now armed with ID we went and booked a skiing lesson for me (Claire doesn't need lessons, she's got 10 years of experience behind her). I was so excited - lets hope I still feel the same after a days tuition.
Back into the car for the drive to Kelowna, the views were spectacular we even saw a coyote, sadly I wasn't quick enough with the camera to get a photo. Now, I have to say I've never seen a coyote before, well, except for in a film called coyote ugly, so I thought coyotes were girls that danced on bars!!! Probably should have kept that to myself but I'm sure it's put a smile on your face as you read this x
Made it to town, ordered the new sofa for Mike and Claires house
then dropped into a car rental company to get quotes for a vehicle for our trip in March. Came away horrified at the prices, so it's back to the internet for quotes. However we did get a good little tip about a little place to go and eat so all was not lost. If only things were that simple...
Off we set to find the european deli, simple one would think, not for us. Despite me telling Claire she was in the wrong lane and that she should change lanes (after all that is my job - Claire drives, I navigate) she ignored me. Then she realises when it's too late and quotes the obvious - "I'm in the wrong lane". Well, I did tell her, so now we are in what can only be described as an industrial estate which wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't noticed the horror on Claires face when she realised we were now going to have to make left turns (obviously this is not quite so easy as right turns over here as they insist on driving on the wrong side of the road). By now I was crying with laughter,
I couldn't even speak. Poor Claire didn't share my amusement, probably because she was driving in canada, on the wrong side of the road, no idea where we were and had lots of left turns to make, which I have to say are ridiculous, they make no sense but what can you do? Exactly, nothing but laugh...opps, I got told off.
After my little laughing session we managed to pull in and park. We decided that we would park and walk to the deli, now what we hadn't thought of was how bl**dy cold it was going to be, no thermals was bad enough but I had no coat either and of course it turned out that the deli was much further away than we thought! Then, when we got there I didn't like anything on the menu as they didn't have anything vegetarian. So off we went and we must have tried 3 or 4 other places which were all burger places, so again I wasn't impressed. All Claire could say was, what goes around comes around - now it was her turn to laugh at me, freezing cold, starving hungry and couldn't find anywhere to eat because
of my eating habbits (whateverrrrrrrr). You'll be pleased to know that 1/2 hour later we actually found a lovely restaurant, had a fantastic lunch and to relax I had a cosmo martini, ummmmm, very nice.
After lunch we set off back into the freezing cold and walked back to the 4x4 then went to the shopping centre. Before going to the shops Claire decided to go to HSBC to pay in a cheque and change her pin number, now as you can probably already imagine that wasn't as straight forward as she hoped it would be, it was like going back in time - you see, the Isle of Man isn't that far behind after all. While Claire was doing this I went off to the supermarket to buy a bottle of Champagne for us to drink in the hot tub later. Again, not as easy as you might think. After wandering around for 10 mins looking for the alcohol section, I finally gave up and asked another shopper. I felt a right twit, she looked at me and very kindly explained that in Canada you can't buy alcohol in food stores, you have to go to a licour store - now how was I suposed to know that? I love shopping!
We finally made it to the shopping centre about 3pm and bought new bedding, robes and towels for Mike and Claire house then we decided we'd had enough and set off back to big white. Made a slight detour to check out the Safeways and Staples stores, very exciting news to add to a travel blog, NOT!
Arrived home and went out for dinner to a restaurant called Carvers, another competitor for Marc and I's reception in March. Food was lovely but not as much variety as in The Coppers Kettle.
As we had walked to the restaurant we headed back out into the cold and by G*d was it cold (5 degrees Fahrenhite). Also very tired I walked as quickly as I could telling Claire to keep up. Now for me to be cold and tired noramlly isn't a good combination but to be in minus whatever it converts to in centigrade and tired was a really, really bad combination - even Claire called me Grumpy (grumplet for those of you who know Claires language).
Once home, we both headed off to bed, what another eventfull day... Tomorrow is my first ever skiing lesson, keep in touch xxx
