Sorry its been a while friends, but as it stands many of our days have been the same these last few weeks and an average day looks a little like this: 4:20am First alarm goes off, KJ rolls over and hits snooze 4:29 am Second alarm goes off, KJ rolls over and hits snooze 4:38 Third alarm goes off, KJ rolls over and hits snooze. 4:45 KJ hits zach and says “we really need to get up” A quick mad rush ensues as we go pee (in disgusting bathrooms - more to follow), fill up our water bottles and walk to the orchard (in the dark - as the orchard is on a hill, we can actually see all the lights still on in Kelowna). We pick cherries from about 5 until anywhere between 11 and ... read more

After arriving in Kelowna on one fine sunny and ridiculously hot Sunday afternoon, we have spent the last week with no money and pretty much finding all the free stuff around town. The first few days of our new town were spent checking out some of the great beaches around and you guessed it, lying around and reading. It is now warm enough where we can spend more than 5 minutes in the water without having to get out but now means we sweat like crazy and its very uncomfortable to sleep in ole stanny. We also went for a nice walk downtown, although its not as fun knowing that you cant even contemplate buying anything. But still good to have a looksy at all the cute little stores and cafes. We also spent time at ... read more

Hey! Man, do I have stories to tell. Do I ever. Man! Jeeze! Here I am admist a bike trip, headed for now to Kelowna. Im meeting a friend here on the 10th (which is today, Ive met her) who Ive known for many years. She actually just spent a year in South America! But Ive had a nice journey getting here. It all started last Monday night. I rode 115km from Lake Louise to Golden, BC. In Golden, while shopping for a new front rack (my last one finally broke after years of abuse!), I bumped into a nice lady, and her son. Her son liked my bike, and asked me if I was the mailman, or if I was travelling. I said I was the mailman. Later, I was back on the highway when ... read more

the epic travel adventures This is test post for my soon-to-be-excellent blog, which I will use to update people on my adventures 'down under'. As far as I know, I'm going to Australia, New Zealand, and the Cook Islands. So that'll be cool. My family's been planning this trip ever since I was little, and considering I never thought we would actually carry through with this plan, I was pretty surprised to learn we would be spending the summer abroad. I've never been anywhere other than Canada and a little bit of the U.S. I'm pretty damn thrilled. Also, my older brother is finally leaving home - he's nineteen - to go to university this fall, so this is the first and last big family trip we are going on all together. I'm graduating next year, ... read more

We will try to blog as often as we can throughout the trip. We should get some pretty awesome pictures and video. I think you can actually subscribe on this page, and you will get emails every time we post a blog. Dont worry, we wont sell your email address to any unsavory characters!! It was some time ago but we managed to buy a car. Well technically its a van but nevertheless Lauren and I are super stoked! Our original plan, while we were still in Australia was to pick one up in the US, but once we were at Big White and settled into our new lifestyle we got to thinking that we might as well keep an eye out for a good deal. And what do you know, within a couple weeks we had figured out the basic kind of cars that were available here in our price range, and where to look. I followed up on one potential van, it sounded really promising and was advertised for only $1000. So we went down to the dodgy used car sale-yard in the industrial estate area of Kelowna ... read more

Spent the morning strolling leisurely down Robson St. First stopped for a brekkie at Blenz Coffee, one of the many cafes located at every other corner in Vancouver. Mmm... nice hot coffee in the cold morning. Great start for our trip :) Collected the car at abt 10am at Empire Landmark Hotel. When we were brought to the carpark, all the cars looks new and shiny, except 1 blue toyota... mmm we were all secretly praying silently that it wont be ours. To our relief, our car is the one parked next to the toyata, a big silver Chevy. First check if any scratches, check driving position, GPS blah blah... Aiyo... the leg pedals are too far for my short legs.. How how? After fidgeting here and there, we are finally on our way! Yeh! Picked ... read more
