Rhonda wanted a White Xmas and a White Xmas is what we got. There was snow everywhere in Canada. We could have gone to any town and had a white Xmas but Big White had lots and lots of snow. Great for skiing, snowboarding, dog sleds, snowshoeing, horse sleigh rides, rolling around in the snow after a spa, ice skating, snow fights but no good for building snowmen. It was too dry, the snow wouldn't hold together. Kym really got the hang of snowboarding. Doing black runs with Radan. Jasmine and Laurie were more tentative after their injuries but got on the skis and rebuilt their confidence. Peter and Radan tore up the mountains, Rhonda had great time skiing and Pixie and Dion were very adventurous in their skiing. Nana just watched and went on the ... read more

Onto Kelowna now where, we made our way to our hostel, called Samesun where we would be spending five nights. Kelowna, which is affectionately known as K-town, is a city of about 120,000 on Okanagan Lake, a prominent feature of the Okanagan Valley in interior British Columbia. The city's name derives from the native term for 'grizzly bear'. The suburbs and areas surrounding Okanagan Lake are quite picturesque, with any view along the length of the 135km long Okanagan Lake being stunning. On one particularly nice, warm day we went for a day-hike up to the lookout point of nearby Knox Mountain, which was a short 15 minute walk from our hostel in downtown Kelowna. The entire Knox Mountain forms part of a larger nature reserve area, with plenty of hiking trail, mountain bike tracks, information ... read more

Friday marked the end of our great careers in Kelowna. It was a day of mixed emotions but overwhelmingly exciting! The whole idea of the 'end of work' and the 'beginning of an adventure' has yet to sink in and as much as I wasn't expecting it I felt sad leaving my office for the last time. Over the years I have made some very good friends within the company and I will miss their daily presence and support. But onward! The week ahead includes vacating the rental apartment we have been living in since mid-August and disposing of "stuff"...lots and lots of "stuff". We thought we'd cleaned out most of everything in August but WOW there's a lot left to go. This Friday we head to Vancouver for a few days with our son and ... read more

It's 2:48am, and in about six hours I will be leaving the place I've called home for all 19 years of my life. Is it bad that I feel nothing but excitement?? I feel like I should be more sad about leaving, especially since this is really the only place I've ever known. But I don't. The only things I'm really going to miss are my friends and family, but as for this city, I think I can do without it for awhile. Don't get me wrong, Kelowna's a beautiful place... But with one of the largest (if not the largest) populations of old people in Canada, plus the fact that it is known as the "OC of the west coast" (so I've heard...) it can be a little hard to love at times. This town ... read more
