Well there's worse places to be stranded in! We made our way into Brugge (Bruges) in the morning. After poking about a bit, we wroked out it would be worth going to Zeebrugge, not to board the ship, but to go to the beach as the temperature was getting hot. So we took the local train out the Zeebrugge and wandered down to the beach. Weekday the train drops you off well away from the beach, so the walk to the beach is a bit crap along a dual carriageway for about 8 minutes. Anyway once there, the beach has plenty of space. There are some bars on the front and it is a good place to spend the odd hour or so. The sea tempature is much warmer than off the Yorkshire North Sea Coast. ... read more

Your not in France anymore when prositutes line the main highways under sun umbrellas looking to make someone a lucky man, whilst that man is on transit to the nearby airport. It hits you in suprise and it is damn classy. Particulary the "we don't even need to stop to take off my clothes" aspect of their atire. Wonder if those on arrivals or departures get more buisnes? I LOVED Barcelona!! (not because of the prositutes). It was fantastic. The culture is fantastic wine and fantastic tappas, music and dancing, the colours are bright loads of red). Archictecture is amazing, especially all the Gaudi around the city. The unfinished cathedral particulary spectacular. The city's landscape and lights particularly attractive. The waterfront and beaches beautiful, expect mind the plastic bags when your wading out in the water. ... read more

Motorhome News from Europe 35. Shetland September 2005 The Vicar and Sweeney Todd Shetland enjoys weather. Not good or bad weather particularly, but mostly wet or windy, and, more often than not, both very wet and very windy. In our brief affair with these Islands we have experienced only the ‘very’ bits so far, curtailing much of our planned walking excursions somewhat. ‘It’s been a bad summer this year,’ they all cry! Where have we heard that before? The best way to find out about the weather is to listen the BBC forecasts. They don’t usually include these islands of course; the presumption being that the UK ends somewhere just north of Glasgow. It’s no good asking a local either - unless you’re a local of course. Damp or rainy weather is called, ‘weety’. Dag, grop, ... read more

Next we saw Oxford which was really cool. One of my best buddies, Rachel Sparks (aka Sparky) went here for a semester so I was excited to see where she lived. Oxford was really incredible- so old and yet so full and busy. We walked down the streets and played tourist. We looked in old bookshops and I saw my first starbucks in 8 months. Weird, being from Seattle, not to see them all over the place. UG bought me a coffee : ) We saw the different campuses and walked around looking at all the pubs and student hangouts. We also went to the Eagle and Child where the Inklings used to meet. Evidently its been remodeled and the back was knocked out to make it bigger but the front room is the same. We ... read more

Well, back at the hospital again. My eyesight has been pretty much blasted during the past few days and I get a new appointment with another doctor. They conclude that my vision is down to 0.3 and that maybe the medication wasn't the best thing to do. The infection has become worse since last time around and the general theory is that the cortizon that was supposed to blast the virus has mainly succeeded in disassembling the immunosystem instead. Nice going! The head doctor is summoned into the room, and he looks into my eye for a whole fifteen seconds before recommending even stronger medication and then disappears as quickly as he came, and I am starting to lose my faith in the system. Fortunately the doctor shares my opinion about leaving out the heavy stuff ... read more

There's not a lot to do in Cesky Krumlov, but it is the greatest town ever to just chill out and relax. I can't tell you many people I met here who said they had only planned to be here for a night or two, and had been here four, or eight. The hostel we stayed at has a free keg for their guests every Wednesday night, and wouldn't luck have it, we arrived on a Wednesday. They also had this great big patio with a BBQ. The second night we were there, there was live Bohemian Jazz at the restaurant next door. Sitting on that patio, drinking a Budweiser (the real Budweiser, from nearby Cesky Budjovice, not the American stuff) , BBQing on the grill, listening to the Jazz band, let me tell you, life ... read more

After a very long flight, I was picked up by Frau Grospitsch, the exchange coordinator for the German American Women's Club. She took me to what will be my home for the next ten months; Siegmunds Hof. I was quite tired, but decided to walk around for a bit and take pictures of the area around the dorm. It was sunny and warm, and I thought everything looked interesting and pretty. After returning to my dorm, I got to know some of my neighbors, and then finally went to bed.... read more

Here's what really amazes me about Rome... We've spent years sitting in classes, hearing teachers talk about the Roman civilization and about how innovative Roman architecture was, and sure we've seen pictures of great buildings and learned the history of them, but I'm seeing them come to life before my eyes. This may sound cheesy, but it's something that you can only experience. No matter how much you look at pictures of something, there's nothing like walking down a narrow, winding street and then stepping out into a piazza, immediately confronted with the Pantheon. It's huge! And what amazes me even more is thinking, "How did they do this?" I mean we have tons of machines and thousands of resources, and the majority of things we create today don't begin to compare to this; they don't ... read more

7:30- Use internal clock and get up with sun. Get ready in 10 minutes and eat long breakfast. Decide metro is far to easy, so we opt to urban hike Paris instead. 9:00- Race elevator up Eiffel Tower. Beat it no problem. 12:00- Start hike to Louvre. We would have swam the Seine, if we still had our swimsuits. 13:00- Re-fuel bodies with salmon sandwiches (or panini, or bocadillo, depending on your roots). 14:30- Battle tourists to get glimpse of Venus de Milo and the Mona Lisa, only leaving a few casualties. 15:30- Prefer looking at French statues... in the unpopular area of the Louvre. Reuse the "I spot titties!" joke we heard earlier from a fat American passing a topless beach on the Riviera. 17:00- Urban hiked to Notre Dame to please grandmothers. Said a ... read more
