Hello from Hastings....a small fishing town next to Dover and the place of the infamous battle of 1066. We just visited the ruins of Hasting's Castle and some really crazy caves used by pirate smugglers and then later as hospitals during the air raids of WWII. Anyway, I'm on a train, so I just decided to update quickly. Pics are up: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/facebooksucks/album?.dir=5bb7&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/facebooksucks/my_photos ...sorry that's so long. Just copy and paste in the browser. Anyway, I have to go!! Tomorrow is Windsor Castle and Eton College. I hope everyone is doing well at home. I miss everyone so much! ... read more

Comment m'exprimer? J'espére que ce blog me remontera. ... read more

So After a terrible bus ride from Corfu to Athens which consisted of 2 ferries and one extremely crazy bus driver, (ie passing cars on really curvy moutain roads) I finally got to Athens. I had been told to get out of Athens as soon as possible but I thought that it was pretty cool. Hung out with some pretty cool Aussies and checked out the acropolis. I thought that it was pretty neat except I thought that I was going to be able to walk around inside the actual parthenon but since they are doing work on it ( and have been since 2000) you can't. All and all I was really impressed with the size and in general how good it looked. After that checked out some more of the sights around Athens, namely ... read more

An afternoon’s golf in Ballybunion. Thursday 8th September. Spent the morning preparing for an afternoon’s golf at Ballybunion. I had not really intended playing any golf here, especially as I hadn’t hit a ball in anger for about three years but after enjoying hitting an hour of practice balls at the driving range I was inspired to take up cousin Paudie’s offer of a round of golf on the famous course. As mentioned in my first Irish entry, things are very expensive in Ireland and a round of golf would usually set you back €135 however, as my cousin is a life member “I’ll show them my gold medal!…” he exclaimed, it was only going to cost me €10. The morning started with a brisk walk around the town, followed by 1030am visit to church (I ... read more

¡Hola amigos! Well, it´s already the "fin de semana" (weekend) for me! Madrid has una fiesta tomorrow so there is no class. So, because this is our only free 3 day weekend, a group of us are going to Tarifa, a city on the southern tip of Spain! It was so crazy trying to book this trip to Tarifa on such short notice. If I learned anything from this experience, it was that the sooner you can plan trips, the better! At first we were trying to figure out where to go....the island of Mallorca, Tarifa, London....eventually, we decided on Tarifa because plane tickets were crazy expensive trying to get them 4 days before! Then we had to go to the "estacion de los autobuses" to get our tickets. But before we were going to buy ... read more

My breakfast was kasha with smetana, porridge with sour cream mixed in, a cup of nescafé and - honestly - a cheese flavour choc-ice. There were four hours of conversation and grammar classes, then I went to a kiosk to buy a loaf of baked sugar bread and a big bottle of apricot juice for lunch. I had my first balalaika lesson at 4 but I think it will also be my last. I don't like the man who teaches it and I will not be able to play well in just eighteen weeks. Chris J has taken to it though, and is even thinking about incorporating a balalaika into his band, Subfunc, when he gets home. I think the last week is catching up on me because some of the Russian habits are becoming less ... read more

This was our big touring day of London. We took the train in from Berkhampstead into London and then headed to St. Paul’s cathedral where Princess Di and Charles were married. From there we headed over the Millennium Bridge which was built for the celebration of the turn of the century. Funny enough, they had to close the bridge shortly after they opened it because it swayed too much in the wind. They quickly fixed it and re-opened it. Just over the bridge is the Tate Modern museum. To my surprise they had a Frida Kahlo exhibit in house. It was really great to see her work especially since I had seen the movie Frida and could relate each of her paintings to different parts of her life. After the museum we headed over to the ... read more

Well....It has been little over a week since my last entry, and so much has happened. Vienna to Lake Bled, Slovenia and now the capital of Slovenia Ljubljana (Loob leeyaana). We spent two days in Vienia, where my mom studied for 4 months. I had been there before, but the weather was terrible and I did not have a good feeling about the city. This time we decided to take a bike tour the first day and really got a great overview of a wonderful and beautiful city, full of art, culture and a ton of history that has shaped the world as we know it. Highlights of this city included having cappucino and a chocolate croisant for breakfast and having a little austrian woman tell me about the opera in vienna and how amazing it ... read more

I made it in to London this morning on time and then went and hopped on the Tube. They didn't stop me and make me open any of my bags and immigration/customs went VERY quickly. I was quite happy that it was so easy. I met up with my sister and her friend Kevin at the Oakwood Station and we proceeded to try and figure out the bus system....not very good at it I'm afraid. :-( I think we took 2 buses and still ended up walking quite a ways with 6 pieces of luggage (not all mine, thank goodness). I found the place where I'm going to be reporting to work on Monday, and the housing they have for me is literally about 10 yards away. There should be no reason I'm late to work! ... read more
