I'd cycled through the Lofoten islands before, some years back. I KnEw I would encounter 480 hours of continuous daylight in the 20 days I planned to cycle and camp there. Still, I was baffled to watch, as it neared midnight, the sun refuse to set. It would head for the horizon only to boomerang its way back up, as if changing its mind. Though I could only watch this play out on the rare cloudless day... ...the clouds and the rain. The rain and my not!waterproof tent. These were my constant companions, my first three days in Lofoten. A recipe for a disastrous trip. Yet I found myself smiling and laughing as the rain splashed down on my gray helmet, down my yellow raincoat, down my speeding blue bike. Cycling on the bottom edge of ... read more

The trip to Austria was enjoyable and beautiful. The country has a lot to offer starting from mountain and lake scenary in Innsbruck to the great cultural event in Wien. We entered Austria and stayed in a camping place somewhere in the mountain not so far from Innsbruck then we headed to Graz and finished our trip in Wien. I expected much more in Wien because i've heard about the city quite a lot. The city is indeed beautiful, but is too big to admire lol.. just have the feeling of very very well-developed Moscow with luxery and chic-restaurants everywhere... high buidings, great achitectural moments.. The city of Graz is cute. Lovely. It was the cultural capital of Europe in 2002* (or somewhere around this year).. The city was not really busy, may be just because ... read more

As if last night's dinner wasn't spectacular enough, the Gleaneagle Hotel outdid itself with this morning's breakfast. We walked into the same dining room where dinner had been served. At first all we saw was a line at a big buffet table. We immediately got in line. We got juice, choice of cereals (I got oatmeal), lots of fruit and rolls and various spreads. When we sat down at our table a waiter asked if we wanted eggs. "Of course" said I and ordered sunny-side up with home fries, bacon and toast. That's my idea of a healthy breakfast. After breakfast while we waited for everyone to meet before boarding the bus, Gail had to listen to the usual first day complaints: "My room was too hot", "My TV only picked-up one station", "It was noisy ... read more

Day 48 (Part 2): Rome during the World Cup So being in the center of the country that wins the World Cup Finals is NUTS!! There were about 200,000 people in Circus Maximus, watching 3 big screen TVs and waving Italian Flags. We enjoyed being in the middle of the crowd, but also went up the hill to look down at the crowd. IT was great to watch the people. It went to shootouts and when France missed for the second time, the crowd just went crazy. It was definately an experience, as high as being at Stanley Cup Game 7 or Denver winning the Superbowl. Day 49: Monday, July 10: Rome Today we headed back into Rome and went straight for the Vatican Museum line. We got in in about an hour, which wasn't too ... read more

Day 100: July 14 - FINLAND - Rovaniemi Accommodation: Hostel Rudolf After the full month I'd spent in Norway, I was finally moving onto the next country. It felt like I'd been in Norway forever. On the same time period with Contiki I visited 10 countries, so to spend that amount of time in one country without staying more than 3 days in one spot was quite remarkable to me. I decided with all the time I'd spent in Norway that I only had a week or less to explore any places of interest in Finland, and if I was going to do it by land then my first major overnight travel stop would be Rovaniemi, mainly because it was the closest I could get to a train station again. Ahead of me I had my ... read more

Casi no había nadie.

So from Roam we headed to Switzerland. A perfect city is how i would describe it. We arrived in Lucerne (Switzerland) and I was immediatly blown away by the sights. The city itself is immaculate. It is so pretty and there is just an amazing feeling to it. Its so clean and so tidy. We stopped of at a little shop where I bought my Swiss Army knife and also for some strange unknown reason i also bought a Cuckoo clock. I duno, i think i just like the idea of having a cuckoo clock in my house one day....i really am weird huh! But the clock is cool! cuckoo From the city we drove up into the hills where our accomadation was. There were 5 to a room and the beds were lined up side ... read more

Had arrived in Paris the night before and this morning got up and caught the metro to Rambuteau to meet up with Kates family. They had an amazing apartment right near the Pompidou centre, central to all the sights, especially the Notre Dame. As it was Bastille day we headed down to the Champs Elysees for the Bastille parade. It was an amazing show of military power adn nationalism. Something that would neer be done in Aus. THere were row upon row of jets, aircraft adn helicopters, people marching, motorbikes, tractors, rocket launchers, tanks adn cavalry. French flags lined the streets and it was all very patriotic. We ended up walking all the way back to the apartment, because its so flat and you just lose track of time. We saw some very attractive French police ... read more

Geneva The weather and temperature here is a God-send coming from Barcelona. The cool wind is so refreshing that alot of the time I just want to sit outside, do nothing, and just enjoy being outside for the sake of being outside. I was so crushed coming from Barcelona, though; the first day in Geneva was horrible. My body ached. My brain felt as if it were being crushed. My neck and shoulders, sore. I couldn't feel my legs anymore. Taking a cold shower just startles me from my machine-like pace now. Alcohol helps, but wears off too quickly. Time is running slower and slower. The Barcelona heat really got to my head. Geneva has this wonderful lake (appropriately named Lake Geneva) which has the cleanest water I habe ever seen in a city (except for ... read more

Well, this is my last week with Wayne Farms. It started to hit me this past week. I know I will keep many of the old friends but at the same time, it still a sad time letting go; but at the same time, it is also an exciting time of looking to the future. For those that do not know, I have accepted a new position with Elinar Broiler located in Naro-Fominsk about 80 km southwest of Moscow. It is a joint venture between USA Poultry & Egg Export Council (USAPEEC) and a Russian owned poultry company (Elinar Broiler). To no surprise, I have "my list" of things I need to get completed before I go. Some of them I have been able to do in the evenings, while others are only during business hours ... read more
