So one interesting thing from today: Jeff and I went to this restaurant called Roata. We're in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, by the way. And so we go to this restaurant because it's supposed to be pretty authentic Romanian food, however there is no English menu, nor any English translations. So I ask the waiter boy what foods have no meat in them. He shows me a vegetable soup and then this thing called "ciuperci ciopersti" or something. I know from my half-a-day of experience in Romania that "ciuperci" means mushrooms, so I ask him what is with the mushrooms. He explains it to me like this: "Uhhm, you know uhh men?? Uhhh with the uhhhm uhh sheep??" And I was just like, OOOHHHhh, ya, okay, I'll have that; pretending to understand where he was going with that. ... read more

I think it is safe to say Prague is the coolest city I have ever been to. There are castles and huge churches everywhere all along cobblestone streets. Just walking around not doing anything other than looking at the buildings is great. We are planning on staying here for several days and just chilling out. Theres a bridge thats really famous called Charles Bridge or something like that, which always has a million street performers. There was a bling woman playing piano and singing a bunch of Ave Marias today which was great. Prague is really cheap to which is great, I had half a roast duck for around 7 euro the other night and our hostel is only 14. Our hostel is really weird, they are converted college dorm rooms so they feel kind of ... read more

Today we have a long but interesting drive southward, cutting through the area of Georgia. The area famous for being a large fishing area, specialising in Muscles. We further travelled across the Po valley, again well know for fishing of eels, as well as bird watching (more shooting than watching we think). Later we joined the expressway which skirts the adriatic coastal region, another very pretty drive through typical Italian countryside. After crossing the Apennies, we stopped in Assisi, where StFrancis was born in 1182. We had an hour to tour the Bascilia commissioned by the Pope after the death of StFrancis.. The Basilica was authorised by the Pope prior to the death of the Patron Saint of Italy - StFrancis, although, it took only around 2 years to complete. The Basilica is split into an ... read more

Our first day... after weeks of meticulous planning, was strangely emotional. We took off for Kalmar, skirting Västerås, and heading for Öland. We had originally planned to visit the Västerås Festival, where Zak's friend Jane Kitto was performing. She had given us a free ticket and all, but we couldn't stop by, as we'd end up arriving in Öland way too late in the evening. Being the first day doing this, we were not used to the wind, the speeds, the hours of strain... we seemed to be constantly behind schedule. Just about 60km south of Stockholm, we stopped by the Vidarkliniken, a famous clinic and village founded on antroposophic ideas, and marvelled at their lovely buildings. Weather Hot and sunny - v hot ! All day ! Unlike last night which was cold. V cold. Set-off shortly before eight and headed up the road known as the String which cuts across the middle of Arran. First part as expected v v steep - fortunately not too long and reached summit shortly after 9. The strain of the climb was more than balanced by the delight in sea a golden eagle close-up. Some good photos as it soared across the glen, perched on a telegraph pole and finally crossed overhead. The last four hours of the walk (it was some ten miles) was less exciting although there was much attractive scenery. Several stops to rest, take on liquid and enjoy. Arrived at Blackwaterfoot just before 1pm. Little there other than a small harbour ... read more

We all got together tonight to do an authentic local dining type experience. We walked in and sat down with this wheel of cheese under a hot lamp...interesting to watch the cheese bubble....but anyway the dinner was a wonderful way to say goodbye to everyone as people are leaving at different times over the next few days to come. The cheese was the center of the meal, and was melted over potatoes, bread and meat. The desert was to die for, as well as the wine and coffee. I am going to miss the 3 hour meals here in france....what a great way to wind down a day and have great conversation, all while digesting great food and going home tired enough just to go to sleep.... So Bastille Day is French National Holiday. Some shops ... read more

Buongiorno ROMA! oh my ... there's just so much to write aboue Rome Im not sure where to start! What a beautiful and breathtaking city, full of history. We spent the most time there out of all the cities we've been to during our EUROPE SUMMER 06 trip and believe me.. it wasnt enough. I could have stayed in Rome for weeks and weeks. Everything about it was amazing. Of course everyone has their own views and preferences but me, Karla, I LOVED it!!!! We were very fortunate as we were able to stay at the monistery in the centre of the city. First off ... We'd like to THANK all the priests at the monistery for letting us stay there for 4 nights. A BIG THANK YOU to our tour guide and the one that ... read more

Day-2 We enjoyed a wonderful filling lunch at a cafe by the Opera House. And yes this time it was genuine French food. I even had the gaul to try fois gras. Tasty but I for me, once was enough. The next stop was shopping in the area of St. Paul's. Me of all people shopping in Paris, he he, there were sales everywhere, mainly because of Bastille day. Plus me and Amie found out there was a dress code for going into Moulin Rouge that neither of us could manage out of our backpacks. That night we lined up for crepes, a good hour or so for stale fair food. And sadly, we chose the wrong side of the Eiffel tower to watch the fireworks from. From the back end you could hear the music, ... read more
