I'm so tired now, I'm sweaty, sticky and I'm really craving for hot water. Another Russian speaking class this morning - I'm becoming increasingly frustrated! The question "why did I choose Russian" is coming to mind again... I don't know why I'm having such issues remembering things, perhaps I'm getting old (as my class mates regularly remind me of). Perhaps it's just the fact that Russian doesn't sound anything like any other language I know or after all it could just be me of course. In the afternoon they took us to the museum of fine arts. The guide was in Russian but Roman (on the guys from uni) kindly interpreted for us. Each hall had a person guarding the paintings even though I think apart from us there hadn't been any visitors for a long ... read more

well it's been raining all day so far..and a lot of thunder and basically three trigs being annoyed and scared. but we're in a primary school that gets turned into a hostel every summer hol which makes it slightly more amusant - we're in the music room and theres a piano and pics of instruments all over the walls! plus i was playing 'the piano' on the piano just now and some random guys were all 'hey can we come in and listen' which was rather random... yesterday we went on another 4 hr walking tour around prague - SO hot - 32 degrees i think, and apparently the hottest 15th july they'd ever had - but then it started rainoing which cleared it up a bit and gave us a nice shower. however we still ... read more

Geo: 51.5002, -0.126236After packing and checking out we walked to the bus stop to catch the bus to the airport. Bridget was off to Munich and I to London. The bus trip was about 20 minutes long and cost less than 50c!! Amazing compared to the price of getting to the airports in London. But it made up for the expensive ticket price to get out of Latvia. For the first time, my cheap airline wasn't delayed. Arrived in London around lunchtime and was relieved that the weather was cooler than Riga. Cuaght a bus and train to get to my hostel and then arranged to meet Anita at Piccadilly Circus. Met Anita and we had an early dinner and drink. She told me about all the shopping she's done the last few days and that ... read more

In 2005, Zak Keith was a restless and experienced backpacker, while Marion was a backpacker-virgin. We traveled thru S-E. Asia and loved it! Come 2006, we are both "moto-tour" virgins. It was toss up between going to Asia again, or trying something entirely new, like motorbiking thru Europe. There is just something romantic according to Zak, about riding a horse... uhmm I mean bike, coming and going as you please, pending the weather and road conditions of course, and exploring the world on 2 wheels, but without having to peddle to death. Well, we might change our minds about it when we ride for hours along Autobahns, but all things being new to us for now, I think we're unjaded enough to really enjoy it. Since we've never done this before, we're going to play it ... read more

Folytatva a tavaly jól bevált gyakorlatot, most is itt, a TravelBlogon fogok beszámolni aktuális nagy utazásom részleteiről. Ezúttal Ausztrália a cél, 1+2 hétre. Gépem ma (csütörtök, július 13) éjfél előtt 5 perccel száll fel a url=http://ww... read more

Well, the excitement of being in a new and unfamiliar place has started to wear off a little, and I think I'm in a bit of a slump. Learning German is really hard. And I'm sort of homesick, which I realize is totally ridiculous seeing as I've only been here less than 2 weeks, but so it is. I also hurt my back sitting on a very hard cobblestone street to watch the world cup game at this public viewing, so I've been in pain, which doesn't help. I did go on an interesting cultural program the other day, and learned a funny story about Bertolt Brecht that I'll pass on here. So, for those unfamiliar with him, Brecht was a socialist playwright from Germany, author of The Threepenny Opera, Mother Courage, etc. Wrote between the ... read more

Julija was my wonderful and gracious host during my week in Latvia. We met for the first time when I arrived, and I got connected with her in a sort of roundabout way. I was attending Hannah’s (my younger sister) boyfriend’s piano recital in the spring in Durham, NC, and after the concert I was telling his mother about my travels. When I mentioned that I would be in Lithuania and possibly Latvia, she said she had a friend I should meet. So I met Greg Taff, a grad student at UNC, who happened to be at the piano recital, and who had been doing research in Latvia on a Fulbright scholarship recently. We exchanged emails….then two weeks ago I emailed him and he gave me Julija’s email address. So that is how I met Julija. ... read more

Been a little while since I have updated this thing and unfortunatly the internet cafe that I am at wont let me plug in my card reader so one more update with no pictures. GRRRRRRRRR So I got on the bus in Munich and was going to spend 2 nights in this small little place called St Johan in Tirol in Austria and when the tour guide asked the bus who was getting off there I was the only person to put up a hand. This is going to be interesting. So I get off the bus and check in and I had a 3 bed apartment all to myself. The reason I stopped here was that it is a HUGE outdoor sport place. On the bus down they played a video showing all the activities ... read more
