Today was another long day in our classroom. The other group of US students were really late for class, so we got kind of a late start. When everyone got to class, we talked a little more about the brand Czech Republic and then spent the rest of the day talking about the Brand USA. We had presentations from organizations like Fleishman-Hilliard, the US Embassy, and Coca-Cola. The presentations were still kind of boring. A lot of the presenters were not very good, they pretty much read their powerpoint verbatim, which is really annoying. We went out after class and did a little shopping in Old Town. I didn't buy anything but I got a better idea of what I want to buy. We picked up some pizza in Old Town and ate it, before getting ... read more

Oh my I can't even remember all that happened in the past few days. I know a few days ago Mélanie, Garance's sister, took me around and I got to see Montmartre and the Sacre Coeur, L'arc du triomphe and the Champs-Elysées. We had a good time chatting and walking around. It was very quite and peaceful despite the many tourists. Having a French person really helps me feel like I'm on the inside instead of just watching the façade of Paris race by me. We had icecream which everyone seems to be having everyday because it is so darn hottttttttt here. Anywho, that night we started Gone With the Wind, Garance, Mélanie, and I before we all became really tired and called it a night. The next day I went with Garance to the dentist ... read more

Europe » Italy » Liguria » Cinque Terre July 13th 2006

After the heavy drinking, it is hard to get up to do anything. Not to mention that the local church decided to ring the bell every half an hour in the middle of the night ( I am not kidding). I took it easy morning and early afternoon. In the afternoon, I finished my touring around the cinque terre and meet up with Katie (from US) and Grace (from New Zealand) again and shared our stories. By the way, they have a vending machine to sell female underwear. I thought it would be funny to buy one. I couldn´t believe I got the Scorpio panties.......crazy. I went to the beach again and meet up with Giulia and Enrika (Italian). They are very cool. i wish I meet this local girls beforehand. We had a lot of ... read more

Arrive in Berlin Tegel airport in the evening. It is a KLM city hopper flight. I thought it is a small plane, but it is not. I was fed ham and cheese sandwiches and drink for this 1 hour flight. I have to take a shuttle from the terminal and board the plane parking in the other side of somewhere in the terminal. Berlin is hot. The luggage carousel is right at the disembarking point (not a long walk to the comunnal luggage arrival for all airlines). Waited, waited, and waited and my backpack is not in sight. I was told my bag is still in Boston. How could this happen ? I thought when I was reassigned to a different flight and when I was asked for the ticket checkin bag tag, I thought NW ... read more

Weather Report Not too sure - and I was there ! About 6am the sky was clear but gradually became overcast and there was a short shower just after 9. Remainder of the day dry and warm when in the sun. Cooler when clouds came at odd intervals. Sort of day when you are unsure what to wear !!!! Walked into Brodick and hired a bicycle - although by that time I was not sure what I wanted to as the weather was a little unpredictable. Took the plunge and set off at 9.20 when the aforementioned shower had cleared. Began the long climb out of Brodick (Note - Arran is very hilly !) and in about a mile found that I had a puncture. Rang hire company (mobiles do have their uses) who dispatched new ... read more

Sydney - Singapore - Frankfurt (Air) + Frankfurt - Ulm - Langenau (Train) 13 July After the many QANTAS redundancy delays, finalisation of what seemed to be our never ending paper life, and the zero availability of QANTAS flights to Germany, it seemed like a miracle that we were on a flight, in business class, flying at 35,000ft over the continent we had just spent 4 months driving around. You would think though with all the extra time up our sleeves that we would have a pretty good idea of our itinerary and method of travel, but unfortunately no. In fact the Eurail ticket was a last minute decision only picked up 2 days before we flew out. We now have 15 days of train travel in 18 European countries over two months… so begins the ... read more

This computer is giving me grief so there are no photos at the moment. They will follow as soon as possible. Ok where to start with Moscow and Russia in general? I have written this blog a number of times but haven't been happy with it. This, among other things, has caused delay in the posting of this blog. I think I shall start by attempting to introduce Moscow as it was introduced to us. Before we even left for Europe we had heard all about the infamous police force of Moscow. The biggest scam to be aware of (apparently) is run by cops. To enter Russia you need a visa invitation, (a hang up from Soviet times) which means paying a fee to a travel company. Then, with your invitation you can get your ... read more

Worth the Wander After the last entry, you may be wondering what possessed us to go creeping along the winding, collapsing mountain roads of Crete. Brother Mark and I were looking for a small beach town on the Southwest coast called Sougia because it was the closest thing we could identify near Lissos. Lissos is an ancient site that's played host to a number of civilizations. The odd thing about Lissos is that, while it's marked on lots of maps (usually with a cartoon symbol that's supposed to suggest ancient ruins), there's almost no information about it anywhere and there's no road to it. That's going to peak my interest; but how to get there? We had a plan for trekking across Crete. Before you point out that Ernest Shackleton had a plan for trekking across ... read more
