O.K., it's been a while, but we're back! And there's a lot to recap, so I will start and soon, Jesse will finish. Picking up from Amsterdam...Not the best story, but here goes. Night 1: We were lugging our huge bags around all day because we were planning on staying at a campsite outside the main part of the city and could not find any lockers to store our luggage. So, we wondered with a lot of weight being carried around, and decided that since it was my birthday, and we were in Amsterdam, we would try a brownie...sorry, Abba. We finished the brownie and headed to the campsite. Now, neither of us smoke, but we thought we'd be fine...When Jesse's face started to turn ashy white and her lips and eyes became blue and cold ... read more

So i arrived yesterday evening in Sorrento, a charming little town with cute shops...i walked up this gigantic hill to the campsite i was staying at, but the digs are awesome and well equipped...i have a whole cabin to myself (which is supposed to hold 3)...i had a pretty bad night just thinking about stuff and just feeling pretty alone. being alone really makes you think about things to the extent that you might not usually if you werent alone (does that make sense?) but yea, just puts you in a contemplative mood and causes overthinking...it also makes me get really anxious and stressed...travelling alone is pretty stressful (i think my entries are pretty repetitive, sorY!) but yea, i get anxious really easily...but anyway, to the good stuff that you guys will want to read... i ... read more

Europe » Romania » Transilvania » Brasov » Brasov July 16th 2006

So I eat lots of mushrooms in Romania. Because there aren't many vegetarian-friendly dishes. But there are lots of mushroom dishes. I can't complain. I really like mushrooms. Also, I could never live in Romania. There are too many stray dogs and I would just take them home with me. I would be like Ace Ventura Pet Detective, completely surrounded with dirty, smelly, mean dogs. How glorious, haha. Finally, my back is like an aligator's. I'm peeling like crazy. And. Two days ago I was oozing from my back. I think I had little blister things. It was gross, but I sort of secretly thought it was cool. But don't tell anyone: it's a secret. Anyway, we're in Brasov right now. We just arrived today from Sighisoara, which was a rather small town where Dracula was ... read more

Well we made it through Florence which was sorta boring. Unless u like a 18 foot high statue with his balls out (sorry Michalangelo). But Rome has been real sweet. Our hostel is within walking distance of everything. We went and checked the Vatican city and St Peters ballsica, Pizza Venezia, Palantine Hill, The Colleseum, The Pantheon, and a bunch of other crazy stuff. Everything is rediculously old. Love it. But the city is basically shut down completely on Sundays so we just realxed today. Went and Saw the Pope do his big speech thing. Sorta wild. The tourists havent bothered me that much here because ive been to busy gawking at the crazy old buildings. Florence on the other hand i was ready to snap. So We re off to Naples in the morning to ... read more

I didn't sleep at all last night. Perhaps the mozzies got upset from the thunder storm last night, I don't know, but I had to kill some vicious ancle biters in the middle of the night. Petra and I were both awake at various times discussing murder tactics. Today we had a new teacher - 3 all together. And yes, the problem of ordering food is slightly being resolved. We've been introduced to some food vocabulary and decided to go and buy some products in the break to try some more Russian food. During class a camera crew from television entered the class room and started filming us!! Apparently they wanted us on tv so people in Riazan would know who we are and what we are doing here - instead of just rudily stare at ... read more

We just spent 2 of the most wonderful, perfect days in Denmark. Zak has an old musician old friend from Ghana called Eddie, whom he hadn't seen in 2 1/2 years. So it was in hindsight, rather presumptuous of Zak to just SMS him and ask to stay at his place, assuming everything was the way it had always been. To our pleasant surprise, Eddie was moving up in the world: he had recently gotten married, had a new baby, and he and his wife expanded their apartment -- annexing the one next door -- and renovated it into something amazing. Well, thankfully, as imposing as we might have been, Ditte, Eddie's wife, was very hospitable and friendly, and we had a good time in Copenhagen. We had arrived late Friday nite, during the Jazz festival, ... read more

Geo: 51.5002, -0.126236Met Jen this morning at Liverpool Street and we went to Brick Lane Market. Was average and not really our thing. So we caught the tube to Covent Garden. That was much better. We looked at the stores. Bought some fudge, earrings and matching necklace and a smoothie. Found a little cafe for lunch. Then browsed Oxford St. Used the Internet to buy a flight out of London on Wednesday and book some accommodation. Said goodbye to Jen and will catch up with her again when I return to London.... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris July 15th 2006

I’m back at Paris. I finally caved and called in the Marriott Calvary. (My brother, Greg, works for the Marriott and can get good family rates at times.) When we got to Biot I had a little bit of a meltdown. I was a little homesick, I realized I didn’t know where the heck I wanted to go after Wendy left, and I was sick of planning. So Paris and a week at the Marriott sounded pretty darn good. I loved Paris, and this would give me time to see more of the city and regroup to figure out what I wanted to do for the rest of my six weeks. THANK YOU GREG! Tour de France I’m not a big biking fan, but I did read Lance Armstrong’s book and lived with a triathlete long ... read more
