At this time of the year many Brits are preparing, or have already jetted off for their summer holidays abroad, greeting destinations with undoubtedly better weather than what they've left behind. I was one of the many myself earlier last month, where I went on an Eastern European tour, travelling the capitals of Sweden, Estonia, Finland and Russia. Today however, I'm sitting at the kitchen table, feeling pretty old school connected to the broadband router in a beautiful, phone signal-less cottage in Cornwall. We've traveled from South Wales and have had the Wimbledon final on drinking tea, it's the proper 'summer break' so far! Despite looking forward to the freedom from technology (as a 20 year old I'm pretty much connected, just like the majority of our generation) I'm figuring I'll post little entries each day ... read more

We've been in Falmouth for two weeks now, apart from our quick dash to Bristol, Wales & London to go to the hospital & visit friends & family one last time. It's given us a chance to finish a LOT of jobs on the boat.. We've cleaned up the teak decks, finished the bowsprit, scrubbed the hull, keel & rudder (With Snorkel & Mask), sealed the cockpit lockers, fitted bilge pumps, cleaned out the whole boat and various other repairs.. We haven't had a single day off! We have had our fair share of yummy pasties, cream teas, fish & chips. Not to mention daily cocktail hours, which admittedly have started at 12pm occasionally! Rich & Rach arrived on Tuesday evening - so we were focussing on getting as much done by then as possible. We ... read more

I didn't mean to leave you all in suspense for quite so long after my last cliff hanger.. ..When we awoke after our dreadful journey from Lundy to St Ives (Via an abortive attempt to go into Padstow) the boat wasn't where we had left it! The anchor had dragged overnight. Fortunately out to sea, rather than onto the rocks. In our exhausted state we had failed to notice!! Woke up to a text from the Pinders saying they could see us out of their hotel window!!! That's when we realised, we might not be quite where we had anchored! Unfortunately the bright sunshine of morning also brought home the realisation of what had happened. About a foot of water in our food storage lockers, engine room, outside lockers. A bit clean up operation needed and ... read more

This first blog has taken a while to write - Firstly (and blissfully) Lundy didn't have any mobile or internet reception. Secondly we have only just had a moment in St Ives to sit down & relax. Sunday 1st June We left Bristol at 8pm, extremely hungover & very behind schedule. Last minute rush to sort out boat. Mike drops his mobile phone into harbour during clean up op. Lovely send off from all our gorgeous friends. Thought the boat might sink under the weight of them all on board! Locked out of the harbour @ 8:15pm. Motor up to Portishead Marina. Arrive @ 10pm and straight to sleep for us all! Crew Morale = 6 Monday 2nd June Up at 8am to get the engine serviced. Then a last minute bit of shopping, fuel, water ... read more

Day 2 and the first day of proper cycling. Cooked breakfast in the YHA and I think I was going in the wrong direction by 8.45am and then also at 9.15am - soon the roads were ok though and I was cycling on a lonely road from St Just to Penzance. It was dark and cloudy. I saw some lamas in a field and got to Penzance about 10.15am - sat by the parade and looked out at sea and through the mist to St Michaels Mount - and generally felt very good about everything. Also rode past the park where the Cornish Prates play. Shouting 'you beauties' at the sleek brown lamas Who like me in my orange, orange top, are out of place Cornish hills staring out at sea Ignoring me. I try to ... read more

Well day 1it is - the morning flew by and at about 11.30am the Greens came round to wish me goodbye - and so I was waved down New Road heading to Swindon station. It felt like it had all begun the sun was shining and all good. 12.42pm train to Bristol then change for Plymouth and then a little local train to Penzance. Louise, Jess, Mollie and Ollie waved goodbye to me from the platform as the train slowly pulled away. And then on my own - it had started - I thought I would read but too excited and just looked out the window and eat my packed lunch !!! squashed in a holiday train, leaning on the window again old green trees and grass green, jumping, shiny, winding stream a fat river ever ... read more

For those of you that don't know (and there won't be many), I spend the summer in Cornwall. And what a magnificent summer we had this year! The weather was unbelievable, lots of dry, sunny days with hardly any wind. I managed to get lots of fantastic walks completed, training, ready for my trek through The Himalayas in November. The coastal path throughout Cornwall is very scenic and beautiful. Some parts of it are more difficult than others. Over the years, I have managed to complete a fair part of the north Cornwall path. From Tintagel, right the way down to Perranporth and a little bit around Porthtreath. Lots of the path, we have walked time and time again. My day always started off walking around the headland where we stay, Treyarnon, which is a stunning, ... read more

After five enjoyable but tiring days in France I didn't get back to my flat from the airport until about 1.30am. Just a few hours later I was back at work for three stressful days, before I was back on the road for a three day trip to Cornwall. I was absolutely exhausted before I had even started the trip. Just as exhausted from similarly stressful working weeks were Jaimee and Kristy, who were joining me for my road trip. I know Jaimee through my old flatmate Loren, who you may recall joined me on my last UK road trip to the Cotswolds. Kristy is a friend of Jaimee's who I had met a couple of times before. Rather annoyingly, netflights.com had lied to me about our car hire company having a desk inside Heathrow Airport. ... read more

Geo: 50.156, -5.07108Our good friend Mel kindly came with us to Southampton so that he could drive our car back. We boarded the Silver Whisper and were just in time for a late lunch. It took ages to unpack as we have brought more luggage than we would normally because the weather is going to be so variable. Prior to sailing we had the inevitable safety procedure, donning our life belts and going to the muster station. At least Silversea do this seriously unlike some other cruise firms we could mention! We finally got to meet our butler- Chan- and got the champagne delivered. We had expected a bottle in our suite but no- quell horreur-. However all was quickly corrected. We had a quick rendezvous on the pool deck for sail away and met a few ... read more
