Bibury Sunday March 16th was decided for a walking reunion for a group of people who had trekked through The Himalayas in November and had now become firm friends. As we were from various points of the South West of England, it was suggested that we chose somewhere between South Wales and Wiltshire. So the Cotswolds were chosen and in particular a 6 mile circular walk from Bibury. I had never heard of this place before, but when I mentioned it to a few people, I was told it was one of the mos beautiful places in the UK, so I was really looking forward to it. I prayed for good weather considering the amount of rain we had suffered for the last couple of months, but was prepared for a pretty muddy walk never the ... read more

Monday 25th November 2013 We all arrived at Delhi Airport at about 10am local time. We assembled outside the departures doors and said our goodbyes. Most of my fellow trekkers were boarding a plane bound for the UK in a couple of hours. Lynda was catching a plane back to Australia, Jody was meeting with a guide to show her around Delhi before heading off on her tiger safari for a few days before returning to South Africa, and I was going to meet Dave who was arriving from London and we would continue our journey together down to Goa. As I got to the doors of the airport I could see there were armed guards on the doors and much to my horror would not let me in as Dave had my ticket to Goa ... read more

Saturday 23rd November Up for breakfast at 8.30. Some of the group couldn't wait to get shopping but I had to pack and sort my bags out for my onward trip to Goa. Fortunately, this didn't take me too long. I walked up the hill from the hotel to look at the shops around Bhagsu Nag and bumped into Jane and Howard. Everywhere was really busy this morning as it was a weekend. I bought Dave a t shirt. A family stopped me and asked to take my photo! I ended having a hoot with every family member! I picked up a tuk tuk and went down to McCloud Ganj. I took my time walking through the shops and stopped at various places to buy things. I saw Teri, Sheila and Lynda at Mandala Cafe so ... read more

I must apologise to all of you about the delay in updating my blog. But since returning from India, I have been really unwell - the anti malaria tablets have really affected me and I have been unable to do most things. Fortunately I only have one more day to take them! I have written some of my blog, but still have a bit to complete. I have also now added you all to my email list for notifications, so you should get emails everytime I do an update from now on. To read all of my blogs, just keep clicking on previous entries and you will have access to them. The other thing I must add is that a lot of the photographs I have added will be on the bottom of the page of ... read more

Monday 18th November We woke at 6.30am to clear blue skies. After a quick shower, final pack and check of bags, we went down to breakfast. It was very good, porridge, pancakes, fresh fruit, omelettes and toast. Kate had been passed fit by the Doctor so was ver happy to be coming with us. Taxis took us all to the starting point and met with our ponies and guides. And off we went! The sun was shining and the sky was a lovely blue. The path was very good to start, but as we started downhill, the path changed more rocky. As the sun heated up, bottoms of trousers were being unzipped and layers were being stripped off. We continued downhill for the while of the morning. The views were spectacular and had glimpses of the ... read more

Friday 15th November 2013 Today was a strange day, watching the clock tick by, waiting for 2.30pm to come. 2.15 and we are leaving Eastwood Place, driving to Yatton to pick Lisa up. She was ready and waiting when we arrived. So off we went, both a little nervous about what lies ahead of us. Traffic wasn't a problem and we arrived in good time, meeting Teri (our Team Leader) at the Jet Airways check in desk. We met up with Hannah and all checked in so we could sit together. Through Departures we met up with the rest of our group and then each went our separate ways to get something to eat and drink. We boarded fairly quickly and were soon in the air. I fell asleep almost instantly due to my little yellow ... read more

The weather has been very unpredictable recently with lots of rain and wind, so when Sue Winter, Jane Gurney and myself planned to climb Crook Peak, we were expecting bad weather! When we woke on the morning of our walk, the sun was shining and the skies were blue, but you never can count on weather like that sticking around for even a couple of hours, so in our backpacks went waterproof trousers, extra coats, hats etc - just in case! We all had heard several reports of an accident on the M5 that had shut the motorway, so we made the decision to go across country and follow the A38 all the way down to Cross. Jane drove as Freddie (her dog) was coming along and he was very excited to be going out. I ... read more

For those of you that don't know (and there won't be many), I spend the summer in Cornwall. And what a magnificent summer we had this year! The weather was unbelievable, lots of dry, sunny days with hardly any wind. I managed to get lots of fantastic walks completed, training, ready for my trek through The Himalayas in November. The coastal path throughout Cornwall is very scenic and beautiful. Some parts of it are more difficult than others. Over the years, I have managed to complete a fair part of the north Cornwall path. From Tintagel, right the way down to Perranporth and a little bit around Porthtreath. Lots of the path, we have walked time and time again. My day always started off walking around the headland where we stay, Treyarnon, which is a stunning, ... read more

TRAINING CONTINUES.... Well, we've kept walking every Monday, but poor old Sarah Drake has been poorly recently and so that has put her back quite a lot so we are starting all over again in the hope that she can regain the fitness level she was at and we can go forward from there. I've been walking a lot on my own to keep my fitness levels up and intend to increase the distance and frequency of the walks to progress. Sue Winter and myself completed a lovely walk yesterday and it was a shame the weather wasn't brighter because the views would have been fantastic. but at least it was dry. We started at The Black Horse in Clapton in Gordano and started our ascent up wood Lane. Wood Lane continues uphill, under the M5 ... read more
