As mentioned previously there was only one train to Stockholm from Oslo on the Sunday which wasn't due to arrive into Stockholm until 10:05pm. It involved a 6 hour train trip which was our longest so far. We were concerned that the late arrival might be a problem for our host so we rang them to give them a heads up. After boarding the train we heard an announcement that there had been a major incident at some location along the track and that we would need to transfer into buses to get through this section. Whilst all the announcements were made in Swedish, not all were translated into English so we were not sure we had all the information. When the conductor came around we asked what was going on and how much later this ... read more

For some reason our train to Gothenburg terminated one station before the main terminal which meant we all had to transfer into buses for the last 15 minutes into the town centre. Once in Gothenberg we walked to what we thought was going to be a hotel but turned out to be a hotel on a boat! It looked a bit strange from the outside, but didn't really seem any different on the inside. We only had the one night in Gothenburg so we didn't really have that much time to look around. However Ross was impressed that there appeared to be four different types of trams in service on the network within the city all in a blue and white livery. We walked up and down the main street where we had dinner at one ... read more

7-27-07 I woke around 6 listening to the birds chirping out the portal hole. I fell back asleep with the gentle breeze flowing through the window and to the sound of the rustling waves. About 8 I heard a boat drive by, which seemed a little funny to me and at 9 I arose from my slumber. I went upstairs to take a shower. The showers shut off automatically and only stayed on for a short period of time. After awhile they seemed to get cold. I wondered if the coldness was by design to conserve water or just bad plumbing. It was still quite amazing to even be taking a shower on a boat like this. I think everyone there probably realized that some conveniences would not be present, since we were indeed on a ... read more

Hey all! So, with my class officially over, my paper and final turned in, I have left the Folkhögskola and moved down the road to the Sigtunastiftelsen. It is a very peacefull and well kept hotel. A wholy different experience then the dorm-life of the last month. After completing our papers, finals, and parting dinner, the group (sans professor) headed out for a final glorious night of drinking and revelry in Stockholm. I did some research and came up with a highly recomended brew-pub called Akkurat. It was awesome. Just the right atmosphere, not so loud that we couldn't talk to eachother and locals we were sitting next to. I had a pint of Guiness, of course, and then some great Heffewizens. After the bar we headed back to central station to catch the bus back ... read more

Today I received the following sent to us by Satilite e-mail, if you would like to send our sailors an e-mail which has to be short for them to receive it, their e-mail address is SIGF@sailmail.com. E-Mail sent 20th July Hello again Carol, yesterday we saw one whale where we saw 3 last time. When we turned into Magdalenafjorden we saw the polar bears again, this time swimming in the water. First we saw the mother and the cubs and a bit later we also saw the male in the water. In the evening when we were ancored inside graveneset the wind turned and the bay filled with talking ice from the glacier. Very nice. Now we are motoring again against wind and waves towards Woodfjorden around the top end of Svalbard. It is supposed to ... read more

Still at home, but it finally feels like the most important around-the-world-trip preparations are done ! Destinations, flight tickets, international drivers license, visas, guide books, safety bank account, dentist, insurance etc. But it hasn't been all hard work. I got to relax from preparations and feel very calm by visiting two places: A small warming-up-trip to Gotland which was not as sunny as the sunniest place in Sweden should be (about last 3 hours were sunny). It was very nice though even with all the tourists which still feels like less crowded then Malmö on a normal day. Four days of fur trading, raining, antiqueing, raining, walking, raining, pancakes, politicians and a small test of climbing with a rope. Don't know why, but I slept like a baby including afternoon naps :) Last week I went ... read more

20th July 2007 Viola and I left Dawnbreaker very early on 15th July. We had a taxi booked for 6:45am as our flight was at 8:00am. When we were waiting we all noticed that everyone around both that morning and the night before, had been going around Longyearbyn with rifles. At that time of the morning you wouldn't think there were too many people around but there were. It seemed like a very inquisative Polar Bear had been seen swimming around the sailing boats in the Harbour. The Sysslemannen had the Helicopter out to try and scare him out of the village. We got all this information from our Taxi driver. Viola SMS the info over to Uno and we left them to get on with it. Our flight back went very quickly plus getting to ... read more

Best geinig, ... read more
