And by that of course I mean Stockholm's airport. If I look really hard through the steel lined windows, I can see trees. They look pretty. This could be a cool country, who am I to judge? I haven't been through passport control. I have a two hour lay over before my flight St. Leninsburg, and it turns out, if you're willing to pay enough, go on a never ending search for the @ and ', the world of the internet can be yours too at the Stockholm airport. Now let's be serious. We all know I have nothing to say. I just took a 9 hour flight from Chi-town (those of you with Frank Sinatra know running through your heads get extra points). Aside from jetlag and coffee, I have nothing on my mind. The ... read more

I LOVE STOCKHOLM!!! Yep, it´s awesome! I ended up staying here for almost a week because it´s so great! My second day here, I moved hostels and then met up with some people from the boat hostel and walked around the island I´m now staying on. I was on a mission in the afternoon to do actual touristy stuff but I ended up watching a German film crew in the park and watching some people dive into the water and wave their arms around to get rescued for a lifeboat demonstration! Next day I went to Uppsala, about a 45 min train ride away to meet up with band for one night of tour! I watched their concert in the afternoon and then Chris the conductor had an interesting encounter with a transvestite who wanted to ... read more

Hi! Well, we finally arrived in Orebro after what seemed like days of traveling. I ended up running into a girl from SDSU before boarding the plane in Chicago. Both of us were relieved to have a traveling buddy, and it ended up that there were two other girls on our flight going to the same school as us. We met a guy from our flight who helped us find the right train to take and he showed us a little bit of Stockholm while we were waiting for the train. Once we got to Orebro, everyone was exhausted but we still took time to walk into town and buy a few things for our rooms, which are about the size of a normal dorm room with a private bathroom. There are 12 or these rooms ... read more

For the final long weekend of the year we decided to visit Sweden. We scored a cheapish flight to Malmo & there was the added bonus of being a stones throw from Copenhagen. The downside of cheap flights is the inconvenience of getting to the airport at strange hours. We eneded up arriving at the airport at 2am & tried to get a few hours kip alongside the hords of other people. The seats had been snapped up long ago & the lucky ones had rolled out their sleeping bags. Stanstead airport has no capet & we had an uncomfortable few hours on the hard / cold floor. The inconveniences were forgotten when we arrived in Sweden. The first thing we noticed was that everything was yellow (very ikea). After a 40min bus ride we found ... read more

This week has been our welcome/orientation week in which all the International Students are welcomed to Uppsala and the Student Nations. We have had a whole schedule of activities planned and sleep is not one of them. It has been a blast and it is far from over. Tomorrow is Swedish Food Night and the day after is Swedish Swimming( whatever in the hell that is) and a picnic. So let me break it down for you on the glories of this week and the mash of culture: Monday: OK i lied, it wasn't a whole week. It started on Tuesday. my bad. Tuesday: CRAYFISH PARTY!!! at Snerikes. We get there and there are tables covered in trays of crayfish with beading looking eyes just daring you to try and figure out how to eat them. ... read more

I knew I would love Stockholm as soon as I read the sign on the train (the 5th train of the day, in case you´re interested) that said "...och slutstation Stockholm". And I was also determined to love it because I got 5 trains within 8 hours from Copenhagen to get here, as I have already mentioned! And I do! I haven´t done much except wander around today, because I only got here this afternoon, and I had to find somewhere to stay tomorrow night (I did!). Tonight I´m sleeping on a houseboat! And possibly tomorrow as well cos the hostel is half on a boat and half on dry land! Anyway, there´s lots of water and bridges and little cobbled streets...my kind of city! I´ll be here a few days- going to Uppsala (near here) ... read more

Well, the biking is pretty much over, 1300km in 13 days, a bit of a sore knee. I'm in Stockholm, couldn't bike all the way from Goteborg as planned but took a train to the Gota Canal, stayed with Elsa there and biked along it , then a trian for the last section to Stockholm before leaving my bike outside stockholm station (most trains and buses won't take bikes here, its crazy) and spending the night in Uppsala with an old german friend of mine (he is sad he can't come to estonia, espacilly when I told him about some of the girls that will be coming, but he has to fly to srilanka to visit his aid worker girlfriend)... he propsed an alternative plan whereby I would take a 3 euro ferry to the islands ... read more

Sweden and Norway: (very sorry, still no photos. will get them scanned and digitalised at some point, I promise!) For my birthday, my lovely mother gave me a week in a timeshare in Sweden. Very exciting. We picked it because it was easy to get to without a car, being within walking distance of a train line. I flew into Trondheim, in northern Norway, from London where I’d spent a week catching up with friends. Trondheim at a glance was very pretty, but I had to catch my train to Storlien, where I’d be staying. Storlien is a tiny town perched in the mountains just over the border in to Sweden. It’s usually a winter attraction because of the world class cross country skiing in the area but in the summer it has beautiful hiking on ... read more

We took a bus to Stockholm today and we were led by of course my favorite professor in this entire world. The man is hilarious. My favorite quote today was "You'll read in the news tomorrow, Man dressed as Boat hit by Bus." You don't need to understand the context. I don't know this great man's name sadly but I do know that everything was going wrong for him and our tour today. First of all we got to the Vassa Ship Museum and it was packed and we were late so he gave us a speed tour of the museum which houses a 300 yr old ship that sunk on its maiden voyage after 30 min. It is pretty massive. We then went to watch a video on how it was raised from the depths ... read more
